Note there was no mention of political ideology, religion, color, gender, or age. Obviously, we don't know all the details, but I am posting this because I have been on both the receiving and giving ends of situations such as this. When we wipe away all the rhetoric we are a cooperative species. We need one another to survive as a species, and as a civilization. We have the power to change the world, one person at a time.

As the letter says, do something nice for a complete stranger. It doesn't have to be a set of tires, it can be anything that puts a smile on someones face. You could literally save someones life, or at the very least give them a reason to feel good for a while.

Nice to see that.
Just today I was thinking that if I came into money ( more then I really could spend ) , what would I do. Well, I thought I'd go to the unemployment office and ask people once they left the office if they really needed a bag of rice. If so, I'd give them 2 and a 1/2 kilo bag. I think it would be better that way for me then actually going to the community center and donating, this way I actually get to see the smiles on the peoples faces.

Where you are located in the world, that would be well appreciated I would think.

There's more than one of those members here. We have a good bunch, however much we may argue with one another.

That's such a nice sentiment and hopefully it's real.

This day and age people even a kind be people have something to gain. As it could be a marketing campaign.

although I believe this is genuine I would take that marketing campaign over most any day.

One of the reasons I am so fond of my little local coffee stop is that so very often the people will pay it forward.

It's not tires or anything, but there are mornings where you pull up to the window and the person in front will have taken care of your order. It happens often enough that you know it's not an uncommon practice.

I usually try to do my share on paydays. They also run a reward card system. We keep one full in the car for rainy days, and when I fill one other up, I usually request it be used on the person behind me, because I know others are wiping out orders and have paid for me at times.

One of my daughters best friends started spread goodness day here in the UP. It is all about helping one another. I remember when Anna and my daughter were riding around the driveway on motor vehicles when they were about six or seven. Anna liked the little tiny Honda 50 and my daughter drove the lawnmower around. I told Anna to keep it in first gear, but she was brave, she shifted in second gear and went around the corner too fast and hit the brakes and went over the handlebars. The bike died out and I went down to see if she was alright, she sat there shivering and said start it up start it up....but it flooded out and that was the end o riding, I told her it would not start anymore. when she turned eighteen she bought a motorcycle to ride around, Quite a few years ago she started the spread the goodness day and it caught on pretty good. about three or so years ago she had a stroke, and it put her in the hospital, she was only around thirty so she did heal after a year, but never completely got better. She got some minor issues from it. Here is the day. She is still active in promoting it and her friendly attitude was never effected by her misfortune. She is still trying to spread goodness.

Those people will always exist. Fortunately, they are the minority.

I wish everyone would be like this, and nobody would seek recognition for doing it. Do it because it's the right thing to do, not for the accolades. And it need not be as expensive as this, just enough to help out the person in question.

One of the things we also always planned to do if we ever won a major lottery jackpot (we do occasionally waste money of a ticket) would be to send anonymous amounts of money to people who were important to us at some time in our past. Some of them we aren't even friends with any more, but because they were important to us, we'd still send them that money.

It's not like we'd need all of it, and they could most likely use it whether they ever knew it was us who sent it or not.

It reminds me...what was the movie?

IMO this spontaneous communism is normal outside of big cities.
In conservative areas. Among Christians. The idea of doing something significant for a complete stranger is special but not unheard of.

It's not really communism though.

It's simply what people ought to do. The difference is that communism is compelled. This is all by choice. It seems a small difference, but it's a huge one. Yes, the outcome is the same on the surface, except it's not over time. People who are compelled to a thing will always come to resent it and you end up with diminishing returns where people who choose a thing of their own free will enjoy it, come to regret that they can't do more. It feels good.
