Is it possible to block/ignore certain members?
Block no. Ignore yes. It's a pretty simple method. When you see the name of someone who's post you don't want to read, keep scrolling until the next username pops up. Done.
That's what I've been doing. Good advice and thank you kindly.
Would just make my life easier to simply "eliminate" those "mad-putz" threads but alas...
I feel your pain... I can't stop myself when I see trolls post though. Sucks me right in like a tractor beam no matter how hard I try to fight the urge not to click.

Nope. Not possible. ATS wants open debate and all voices heard regardless of irritation. If it were possible the conversation around here would not be nearly as... entertaining. They did have the option a very long time ago. They removed for the reasons above.
I just hold my hand over DB's posts. Low tech answer but it still works.
I use electrical tape across the screen. Sometimes it blocks other people's posts. c'est la vie
Dammit. You beat me to it.
DAMMIT!

I mean it was a good idea. Why wouldn't two very intelligent good looking people think of it at the same time?

I have several spare rolls I no longer need and don't mind sending you one.
Wow. First DB gives me crabs and now you want to give me blue tape.
I'm blessed...
Topic dilution is not only effective in forum sliding it is also very useful in keeping the forum readers on unrelated and non-productive issues. This is a critical and useful
technique to cause a 'RESOURCE BURN.' By implementing continual and non-related postings that distract and disrupt (trolling ) the forum readers they are more effectively stopped from anything of any real productivity. If the intensity of gradual dilution is intense enough, the readers will effectively stop researching and simply slip
into a 'gossip mode.' In this state they can be more easily misdirected away from facts towards uninformed conjecture and opinion. The less informed they are the more
effective and easy it becomes to control the entire group in the direction that you would desire the group to go in. It must be stressed that a proper assessment of the
psychological capabilities and levels of education is first determined of the group to determine at what level to 'drive in the wedge.' By being too far off topic too quickly it
may trigger censorship by a forum moderator.

Good to see that attention span is not a key requirement in these forums
Just a cheap shot of course

Troll posts can be fun to engage with. Though, there seems to a be group of dedicated trolls on ats intent on derailing threads. Being a conspircy site and all, one has to wonder if it's not for purposes such as

I’d love to have an ignore button. I’ve gotten to the point where when I see certain names, I don’t even bother reading their drivel and just skip. Self censorship is not censorship if it affects no one but yourself, it’s a choice. It would be nice to have that choice.

My old avatar was removed because some members were offended by it. I, too, am a Grammar Nazi. I guess the G symbol looked too much like a swastika.

Problem is it's an old tape Echo-Plex Jimmy Page used.* Breaks and goes out frequently

Used to have an ignore button a long time ago. You could have three people on it and you could buy more slots with ATS points. So there was a massive incentive for people to contribute with better posts because, as many people in this thread are aware, you lost ATS points every time staff had to remove a post.
Then somewhere along the way...probably when someone had accumulated enough ignores to be satisfied (because you could edit your ignore list) the site really started slowing down as it filtered all those ignores and well, what incentive would there be to behave if you could ignore 1000 people? Of course had the expanded ignores had been a monthly point buy like RATS was...it might have solved a few things.
But in the end, it used to be a feature but how could you be a better person if you ignored things for petty reasons? I mean you might not like my politics but enjoy my contributions to the funny pic thread or the Survival forum. Of course as staff, you couldn’t ignore my posts...and I had to read everything AM posts...so it kinda works out in the end.
