I may already be an alcoholic by now, but before last April, I would only have a drink or two of sake or beer, and frequently not drink for months at a time. Last April, my best friend killed himself and that set it off. I'm going to try to not drink until Friday. I recognize that I need to stop drinking so much. It's not really helping at all.

I'd love to be able to smoke some pot, but I work for the government. I'm planning to fully explore being a pothead when I retire or maybe there will some changes coming that allow me to try it out sooner.

I hope to be able to get it under control in the future. Right now, I need to drink.

With the NWO and them pushing that big red button in hell I might too!

I drank quite a bit in my 20s, still held a job. I watched all my friends get dui and frankly got sick of being sick.

I am mostly the designated driver now. My poor neighbor has fallen and banged her head on cement so many times it’s scary (although she’s doing much better now). She would ask me to go out so she had a driver, and I obliged a few times because she had gotten an oui or dui and lost her license for awhile, I even picked her up from work at night, she is a nurse 2nd shift. Thank god she seems to be doing much better.

I personally found other ways to deal with depression, counseling, cutting out toxic people from your life. I will occasionally have a beer or two (and that is my limit) I stick to it, if I go to a concert or wedding. Otherwise, I can’t be bothered with it. Same with smoking, I can have a few cigarettes if I have a beer, but can’t stand them otherwise,

Life is too short to miss it! I wish you strong willpower, and friends xo

You're always 1 drink away from either way. Last one, next one.

Moderate in the middle.

After a positive, friendly exchange this morning, I thought that I should make another introduction with a disclaimer.

When I drink, I get to looking for a fight, easily angered, and tend to lash out. I apologize if I have ever done that to any of you. If it happens in the future, just say "Have you been drinking again?' That should calm me right down.

I tend to be antisocial and don't like people much. However, I like the members of this community much more than is usual for me. That's what keeps me coming back for more.

Have a great day!

You have unresolved unconscious issues. Alcohol and Psychoactive/Psychedelics bring up these darker qualities so they can be faced and healed. Face them so they can be healed. Then you will be nicer when drunk.

Alcoholism is only a joke for those that can afford alcohol.

If you can "afford" alcohol, you already have the solution.

Well, whether you’re just using alcohol for a particular rough time in your life (MANY do!) and don’t have a problem, or whether you might really have a problem, you’re doing SO great and there is nothing but hope for you since you are talking about it. I’m impressed 👍🏻❤️

ETA: I thought I was replying to your last post to me. I don’t know why it’s replying to this one. Totally sure there is no way it could be operator error. 😂

Agreed. Though, they could be conscious as well and the OP is citing a friend's suicide as the root, which I can certainly see as a viable reason.

I went through my dark drinking days...well, 15 years of them, really. I had some family issues I needed to get off my chest. Hell, drinking was one of them; my mom used to give me Fuzzy Navels when I was 6-8 years old until my father found out...getting some answers on why things like that occurred was a big part of the healing process. There was also a ton of abuse, sexual, physical, verbal, mental, I wanted answers for all of it and why it was allowed to carry on for years.

Once I got that off my chest it was like a light switch was flicked. I just stopped caring about drinking. 5 years prior to the conversation that brought it all up, I was drunk 4-6 days out of the week, without fail. It was a part of my persona and it never got me in trouble, quite the opposite, it was celebrated and encouraged by everyone around me (except my girlfriend, who came into my life in those last 5 years....and she's now my wife).

But yeah, I suggest the OP goes and talks to someone. Even if it's random support groups on the internet if you can't find/afford a professional. Just getting sh*t off your chest is a GREAT way to start the healing process.

Good luck, man.

ETA- I still drink these days, just NOTHING like I did before. I don't black out and I'll only drink socially or if my wife is having some drinks. I used to be the Lone Ranger with the battle back in the day.

So many sh** posts on here.

I hope you can do the week without a drink.

I recommend the app "I am Sober" if you have a smart phone.

I'm lucky. I don't become an A-Hole when I drink, I just become more right.

Have u considered psilocybin treatments or micro-dosing? There's significant scientific research showing breakthroughs for patients suffering past trauma. I know a few soldiers who came back from the Middle East and said it was a game-changer for them.

If you are not into that I would strongly urge you to consider meditation. Your life has value and untapped potential, dont waste it!

Alcohol is an anti-parasitic that entrains a natural chemical brain reaction and short-circuits your Inner-Leo.

Alcohol is was and will always be a medicine designed to kill parasites, which happen to be the single largest killer of humans ever.
