No, this all looks pretty straight forward. They're expecting there to be violent clashes and so are mobilizing in support of local law enforcement.

This is no more suspect than a night club hiring extra doormen when a controversial rapper performs.

I'm probably just being stoopid, maybe it's the meds, but I don't get it. It doesn't make sense.

There are nearly THREE entire DIVISIONS of military personnel converging on DC!! The entire D-Day invasion in Europe was only 3 divisions of US troops for cripes sakes!!! Yes, there were some British and Canadian troops also, but still D-Day was the largest mobilization of men and machines in the history of mankind!!

What the hell is going on????

1. When Trump released his troupe of flying monkeys on the Capitol on Jan. 6, he exposed himself to criminal liability for inciting a seditious insurrection. Since he will enjoy Presidential immunity from investigation for only a few more days, this possibility has focussed his attention.
2. Afterwards, there was already talk of the same group of LARPers (Qanon, Proud Boys, etc.) returning for a second helping on Jan. 20 for basically the same purpose--to interfere with the transfer of power.
3. Trump was prevailed upon to release a video the next day issuing an unequivocal warning to the very same people he had just referred to as "special" and that he "loved" to stay away, obey the law, etc. Inside the beltway that is known as a "CYA" move. It was intended to limit any further criminal exposure he might have.
4. In the days since then, the FBI, DHS and others have been following the chatter and warn that there could be even larger mobs on the 20th.
5. The inauguration is officially considered to be a National Security function because it is called out specifically in the Constitution as necessary for the orderly transition of power from one administration to the next. That's why it is targeted by Trump's LARPers.
6. As a National Security function, the mayor of D.C. is obligated to try to protect it against disruption. So she requested the National Guard in order to have a superior force to prevent recurrence of Jan. 6 (which was also a National Security function).
&. Because the District of Columbia is a federal district and not a state, you are correct that the POTUS is the only one who can ultimately approve the call out of the Guard in D.C.
7. If he had denied the request to call out the Guard and there was a recurrence of the kind of scene that happened on Jan. 6, but on a bigger scale, his criminal exposure would go up by probably an order of magnitude. He didn't want that, so he approved the request. Another CYA move.

50,000..ok, thats a big #, I heard around 20k..which is again..a big #. I don't know man, they pussyfooted the whole year with a mix of protest and riots, but that was only hurting the little people..politicians at stake here!!! time to get serious!!..ok, sarc off.

Nope. No military coup. The top brass have confirmed that Biden will be their new Commander in Chief. While many in the rank and file like Trump, a number don't - and over 400 US military leaders (generals, former generals, admirals, etc) -- people in charge of the troops -- preferred Biden

There's precedent for this -- Bush did it for the first Obama inauguration, fearing threats of disruption (and to help control the huge crowd that showed up.)

And really, given the armed mob that stormed the Capitol last week, having troops ready and waiting to keep the peace only makes sense.

I can only come up with two reasons for this number of troops in DC and at multiple Capitols.

1. War - The war with the CCP is about to transform into a shooting war. No one else could attack us on our own soil.

2. Storm - The swamp, called the USA, is about to be drained.

Both mean war with the CCP...

I guess a third option could be the militias of the US have declared war on the government.

Secretary Pompeo makes me lean toward the enemy being the CCP.
