Yes that pushed some of us to leave for a decade. And to return quite wary of what organized disinformation manœuvres we might encounter. Previously agencies had staff running twenty different identities on given discussion topic. Today they have BOTS without such limits. It may be hard to police a forum against interference in such a context. Best wishes to the new owner!

PS. Please let us know if archived threads could be resurrected? For some reason searches won’t bring up the thread I authored to relay a Close Encounter of the Third Kind. While such accounts can be controversial, seeing ones honest and sincere testimony arbitrarily deleted without explanation makes it hard to remain trusting of a forum.

All your threads that haven't been deleted are listed here. There aren't that many, so you shouldn't really need search to look through that list.

If you weren't given a reason why your thread was deleted, then ask.
It doesn't make any sense to say "arbitrarily deleted without explanation" if you didn't ask for an explanation.
If you ask why your thread was deleted, you're not going to get an explanation that it was arbitrarily deleted.
One thing I've seen happen is people don't read the rules and make a thread that violated some site rule, and that's why it gets deleted. So read the T&C, be sure you know the rules. ATS has already told us, if we make threads that break the rules they can be deleted.

Any updates? I’ve read every comment on this thread. But nobody has said anything about who the new owners are. Also, I noticed the same people are listed as the site owners. So I wonder what’s going on. I logged in for the first time in months yesterday and see things are running slowly. My first try it timed out and had to try again. Hopefully if there really are new owners, they will start working on this issue in earnest, as it’s been going on a long time.

It would be nice if they did, but people seem to think they have to. If they come forward, that would be great. If they end up participating the way we got used to, even better. But that's up to them.

I wish I could admit I got drunk one night, and bought ATS.

But if I did, I don't remember doing it.

Yes it does.

We are seeing more and more censorship here, sometimes for trivial things.

A thread questioning why ATS has changed has been binned despite no T&C contraventions and it being conducted in a polite and respectful manner.
As usual no explanation, nothing.

Why?

Is this a policy change driven by the new owners or by Mods and Admin?

No doubt this post will be deleted to 'Avoid thread drift' or something equally spurious.

What if it's just another big conspiracy with no proof of anything ? 😃

Please, give me some credit.

There may not be a T&C violation that you see, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.

So, there are some secret T&C's that we mere ordinary, non-Staff aren't aware?
Otherwise how could that specific thread have contravened site T&C's?
All it did was ask a question and all the posts were within the standards that ATS alleges to expect. In fact I see far worse in other threads.
The only reasonable assumption can be that someone found the thread content uncomfortable.

I don't want to make a big thing about it, it simply is what it is.

There is a lot of discussion that goes on about violations that aren't blatant.

We've had discussions that went on for pages before taking action.

The thread wasn't up for pages.

It seems increasingly apparent that threads and/or discussions about how ATS has changed are being actively discouraged.
I accept that and will no longer spread such dissention.....but that doesn't alter the fact.

February 27, 2003...ATS isn’t what it used to be Mods suck and Hotel California reference.

July 7, 2003...ATS isn’t what it used to be Censorship, Nazi mods.

August 4, 2003...ATS isn’t what it used to be Newer members and their topics pushed the older ones away.

And just for fun, SO shares some complaints received I could probably look for them to verify...but that seems like work looking up nearly 20 year old complaints.

Threads on site criticism blaming: staff, newer members, topics, etc is nothing new. Wait a couple days and there will be a new thread made. One week tops.
