Not really. We're at almost 3000 now, and the nature of pandemics is that deaths exponentially increase. The 2500 or 3000 a day now could well be 6000 or more a day by mid-January, which would factor into your averages.

That presumes that cases keep increasing too, but right now, they are in a downward trend in some places like my state. Without an endless increasing curve of cases, you cannot likewise have an increasing curve of death.

Just like you presume that deaths would have to be at 4000+ today. And also, again, that the areas where cases are declining negates those areas where they are increasing.

I did the math. In order to reach another 250,000 deaths by January like Biden said, we'd have to average 9,000 deaths/day every day starting yesterday. We only have 28 days to reach that. Additionally, you have to figure that deaths lag infection because it takes COVID more than a few days to kill the average person, usually a couple weeks. So your case rate is going to have to get astronomical given the relative survival rate of the disease in order for us to do that, and it's going to have to happen in the next two weeks.
