The unit is not involved in any post-election missions supporting the White House -- a move that would be highly unlikely considering it's an entry-level training battalion

I'm curious how this firefight went down.

How did a crack special forces team manage to lose five men to a bunch of guys in chinos and polo shirts? Also, when you have lost five men and the opponents have lost one, that is what military strategists refer to as "losing" (sorry if I'm getting too technical).

When you are losing, and losing really badly, how do you go about securing the objective, in this case the servers?

Did the special forces commander call hold fire then shout into the server room:

"Hey, CIA dudes! I know we're five men down, and you've just lost one, but could we just come and grab those servers anyway? My boss will be real angry otherwise"

and the CIA guy is like:

"Well...I mean we are winning this fight, strictly speaking. But I suppse it's like lunch break in 10 minutes and I'd promised all the guys currywurst from this new place. So, OK then, just promise not to shoot!"

and off the special forces team trot off with their dead comrades and a bunch of servers into the streets of Frankfurt.

That's how it would go down in a Michael Bay film so, yeah, it sounds realistic to me. The only thing missing is some Will Smith/Martin Lawrence-esque witty banter amongst the Special Forces team as they are shot to hell.

No, I was at the currywurst stand and overheard the CIA guys talking about it. One of them was real pissed - apparently a fragmentation grenade had taken out the coffee machine. He was like "If I'd known that, I'd never have given them the servers. Well, at least got them to sign for damages so we could get another. The paperwork will be a nightmare and we'll have to go out for coffee every day. Which adds up on government wages."
