Honestly, if someone wants to do that and someone wants to pay for it, I feel like it's between them and nobody else.

But it's really starting to feel like nobody can write a script that doesn't contradict the next script.

Look everybody's celebrating yay
Oh noes...covid's bad again gotta lock every one down, close the economy
Ok, let's legalize prostitution

According to Life Site News, the 2020 presidential hopeful said that despite her previous crack down on sex work when she was California’s Attorney General, she would like to see prostitution – between two consenting adults – decriminalized.
“When you are talking about consenting adults, I think that, you know... yes. We should really consider that we can’t criminalize consensual behavior as long as no one is being harmed.”

Let's not get into the nasty bits of this, and focus on the legality.

I'm all for it. I grew up in countries where it was legal and it sure seemed to be fine.
Let's not kid ourselves either, legal or not people will do it. I personally think it will benefit women & may
possibly stop some human trafficking's.

Either legalized but unregulated or illegal.

Legalized but regulated is ideologically incoherent.

I am against outlawing all sins... drugs, gambling, alcohol, and prostitution should all be legal with reasonable regulations/safe guards.

Really wanted to keep politics out of this but...... Isn't it the side that is against big government that usually
is against legalizing these things?

Often times. Conservatives are often against legalization religious / moral grounds. Often those on the left are against legalization because they believe it exploits women. Neither is correct imho.

While I am a right leaning poster, I am also socially liberal. IDGAF what people do in their private lives. I've never liked the religious aspect of the right. I didn't vote Republicans by in large in the 90s due to the Christian Coalition. They've finally gotten rid of a lot of those guys or at least have kept them at bay.

I guess I am a true moderate. Conservative on fiscal / economic policy... liberal on social policy.

I think it goes hand in hand in a sneaky way.

If prostitution is legalized, then they can deploy health officials to say it's against the covid rules to participate in prostitution during the pandemic, and in turn, they get to impose fines on anyone who doesn't listen.

Sure why not? It's funny though how legalizing prostitution would come up when we're apparently in the.midst of a raging global pandemic. Not long after they're talking about a 6 week lockdown. I guess they mean when all that's over and covid's done. Or are prostitues now immune from covid also? Maybe they'll be classed as an essential business.

It came up Pre-Covid because Kamala has a record saying she is for legalizing it, so now people are recirculating it again.

Given Kamala's history, it isn't surprising she would be for legalization. She almost speaks from experience.

I think he is trying to say that if you legalize it, there shouldn't be any regulations. A bit of an extreme position.

Even though I am libertarian (generally), I don't think anyone believes there shouldn't be regulations of any kind. The question is how much regulation is necessary to ensure a free and functioning market where consumers are protected but business isn't hamstrung either.

I don't think it is all that complicated. The problem is you can't regulate away stupidity or criminal intent. It is kind of like with product warnings. No matter how safe you make something, nature always builds a better idiot.

I’m fiscal conservative — social liberal — atheist.

My quandary. Social programs employ a lot of people. They also help a lot of people. If we tightened up spending — would we need less employees? It’s very circular.

Back to prostitution and government regulations.

It must be treated as a business, just like any other legitimate business.

Regulated, taxed, health licenses, etc.

Nevada does it brothels are required to be licensed through the state prostitutes must have medical testing and required to report earnings. Id say this is safer for everyone involved

NO

This allows traffickers.

Criminalizing prostitution just makes the state another pip the girls have to pay. Get a fine and back out they go. it also removes a lot of protections available to most other people as it is all pushed under ground.

There are a lot of sad stories out there as some are forced into the industry, supported by the establishment. If someone chooses to enter this line of work, that is their business. Decriminalizing it can help reduce a lot of the exploitation that does go on.

"Her body, her choice" is kind of already the (judicially legislated) law of the land.

If the only difference between a sex crime and "art" is the presence of a camera and a signed document...i think i can see how stupid it all is.

That statement is referring to prostitution...

Do you think the girl who was trafficked deserves a charge? Of course not...

Now, if you would like me to unpack that statement...I do think it requires regulation....they are not mutually exclusive...

Eta...trafficking is and should always be illegal...but that wasn't what my post was responding to.

IMO — it needs to be treated the same as any legitimate business.

Arresting a prostitute that’s been trafficked — could save her life.

Makes you wonder doesn't it, to me filming seems much worse.
One of the weirder prudish things about the US.

I think they could use the Escort business as a model. They'd have to add some health regulations and such...but would be a good model to start. Independent Contractors that pay taxes.
