I'll start saying that I became a better person the moment I joined ATS and I will thank everyone of you for that. All of you are like family to me and love you all.

Well, I don't want to make a drama but I've been having serious health problems lately and maybe there is not too much more of the road ahead for me.

Treatments are certainly unaffordable and I doubt they could work, I could apply for disability but my family needs me working. I didn't tell them how bad I'm feeling but they see all the painkillers I take. I rather don't go on details but I already have some organs not working well and some days even walk is difficult.

So, I just don't want to wait to say thank you ATS. I still be around as much as possible.

Trueman.

I am sorry to hear you are having health problems. I hope somehow you will be cured and return to full health. You are a good person putting your families need above yours.

Trueman, I'm very sad to hear this news, as you have been an active member and your contributions have resonated with me many times over. But I'm also very grateful this small corner of the web has allowed for a mechanism of interconnectivity & sharing of ideas, stories, debates, etc. here at ATS.

I hope you are able to live in comfort & I hope you are able to use effective treatments to minimize your pain & potentially provide therapeutic healing. Wishing you well from Vermont

That's terrible to hear. Have you explored all your options? Sometimes, there are ways even when it looks like you can't afford a thing. When I was suffering the worst of the chronic migraine, I was turned on to a company program to make the latest medications affordable that I knew nothing about. It was just luck that I ran into the right person to tell me about it. Keep looking and don't give up hope.

Prayer said, and more will be said here! I’ve appreciated you, and others here are right- sometimes we can find or it will come to us: help which we didn’t know was possible. You’ve got lots of love coming your way!

To be very blunt, the first thing, after feeling really bad for you being smack in Between A Rock & A Hard Place health-wise, the first thing that went through my mind was "He needs to be open & honest with his family, sooner rather than later."

If you don't think you have much time left and you'd prefer to spend it working, that's perfectly fine, many people do that and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. But the way you worded that smacks of hiding the true scope form people who need to know the scope the most. You can't keep that from them, they NEED to know. If you're that bad off and you truly think your time is limited, please, please, please tell them. My husband is over 13 years my senior, we discuss health and aging issues quite often -- I need to know what may or may not be coming down the pipeline as early as possible if his health were to fail, because once he's gone, so is the income and that would leave us scrambling. I'd need to know well in advance to plan for working and such by myself. PLEASE give your family this courtesy, there's no shame in letting them know this could be coming. Knowing it's possible is far better than them being hit by a proverbial Mack truck out of the blue if you suddenly die without warning, or at least with only you knowing it was coming.

I hope treatments can be worked out and afforded, I really do. Are you old enough for Medicare? I know it's maligned, but it served my grandmother damn well for a long time in her elder years. If you're able to apply, please, just apply and see where it goes.

Dammit Trueman.. I am so sorry to read this.
Many prayers for you and please do not give up hope. It's none of my business and you may have already done this but have you talked to the doctors and explained you cannot afford treatments? They usually can find a way, if you want to try. It is your own choice of course but I'm sure your family would want you here with them. Please do think about confiding in them. If it was me, I would want to know. Our family recently lost someone quite suddenly and unexpectedly..I wished I had used the time I had when I did to be there and really pay attention. I did tell him often I loved him, the whole family did - so theres that at least. [Hugs] and prayers to you

While people argue about there favorite mascot, life generally hits you like a ton of bricks. If you got health problems, I dont think aggravating things will help the issues. And every time I come on this site, once every few months. Nothing but aggravating nonsense.

Who needs all that. Its been 15 minutes so far. But I to feel like taking a long break from ATS. I like your thread. I gave you a star and flag.

I'm saddened with that news, Trueman. You've always been 1 of the better gentleman on ATS. We often see eye to eye but even if we didn't I have the utmost respect for you. Like some of the others have asked, is it something you perhaps can help fix? There are some great threads on Cancer treatment on ATS. Whilst I don't know your ailment please don't think I'm prying.

I only recently found out form my brother how my Father kept his ill health from us and you go through your mind thinking "if we had known could we have changed the outcome?

There is no wrong or right way to go about this. Only you know whats the best way forward. I'm sending prayers your way.
Peace my friend.

That is sad news, Trueman, and the cherry on this Annus horribilis for you, your family and your ATS family here.

I was pondering if you have an European heritage/nationality to fall back on. I say this because my Uncle, originally from Italy, emigrated to the USA back in the 60s. He became a US citizen and subsequently lost his Italian nationality. However, Italy changed its laws and allowed many people to reacquire their nationality. The law, by way of "Jus sanguinis (Ius sanguinis)" also allowed 2nd/3rd generations to become Italian as long as one parent was Italian.

He was quite happy living in the States until he started having heart problems. To avoid insurance headaches and excessive costs, he became Italian again, came over to his home town and had a triple by-pass free and gratis on our national health system. After a few months he returned to the US, fit as a fiddle.

I realise it's not straightforward or an easy path, but it may be a way out of your predicament. Just look at how many Brits have acquired Irish nationality because of Brexit; surely your situation would warrant searching out such an option.

Whatever happens, I'll pray that everything works out the best for you and your family. As we say in Italy, 'la speranza è l'ultima a morire.' - Hope is last to die!... and I've seen enough in my life to truly believe in miracles.
