Yes unfortunately the country has been hoodwinked by the Big Banks and Big Education to believe college is a mandatory path forward for all children. That if you choose any other path you will be "begging for pennies" as you say.

With the influx of more and more students universities raise their tuition (supply and demand); as tuition rises banks make loans available at hefty intrest rates; as more loans are available even more kids attend schools universities, who again raise tuition... and that cycle goes on and on as the banks and universities get richer and the students find the ROI on their education gets smaller.

Unfortunately I don't think government assuming those loans for the students breaks the cycle. It just hides it more until it becomes like the Health Insurance system.

Kids today need to be taught that their are other paths forward out side of universities and government should put in place programs that foster these multiple paths.

Kids also need to be taught the true cost of that higher education and how loans work.

When I went to university at the turn of the millennium I paid for it by working from when I was 16 until I graduated at 22; full time nearly the entire time from 18 to 22. My largely non collage educated family had very little to help me with; but they where also not the type to take out loans. so thankfully they sent me to work instead.

Lucky for me I graduated with no debt; which helped when the tech industry recession hit just as I was graduating with a engineering degree. Took my quite a while to find my first engineering job as I kept having to compete with mid level engineers for entry-level jobs. Luckily I didn't have to pay for rent at this time, as I thought it best to stay with my parents instead of paying a landlord $1200 a month for a one bedroom. I also had an old car that I had paid for with the money I made from working through college.

Its a tough world out there; I don't think older generations appreciate how much has changed.

You mean like how Trump targeted every good thing Obama did?

It became his obsession. Didn’t matter what it was, if it had Obama’s name on it — straight to the shredder.

Like you (kind of), I worked through college. Often with a full time job, and even then the money ran out.

At one point in my life my parents were quite well off, but then the energy industry crashed in the late '80's and my parents lost most everything. Though they had gleefully paid for both of my sisters full ride to go to college, there was no money left for me apart from a few savings bonds which paid for about a year. After that I was on my own.

But again, as I noted, college loans were available even then, but I stayed far away not knowing how I would ever pay one off. I wasn't foolish enough to get myself in over my head without knowing how I would pay, and I knew the less you paid the more the interest stacked up on you, hence my apprehension.

ETA - you noted it's a tough world out there, but you don't know if older generations realize how it's changed. I differ a little on that sentiment. Yes, it's a tough world out there, but I question whether younger generations have been educated about it or just conditioned to ignore it. Debt isn't something you can plead ignorance on. Wasn't then, and isn't now.

Oh gee, I forgot to answer the question from the OP.

What do I look forward to?

I look forward to Jo-jo Bitin' trippin' over his D# every time he speaks in public, and watching all the treasonous pukes in Hollyweird squirming in their own dirty diapers at their new leader!! I can't wait for that!

I look forward to him mistaking what country he's in when meeting international leaders, and forgetting their names, or calling them someone else. That's gonna' be an absolute HOOT!!

I look forward to him standing up in front of the nation during State of the Union address and saying s# like..."C'mon, man, I told those foodle faced iron sploomers in China where the bear s#'s on my lawn, dammit! My lawn! I mean, c'mon folks, do I look like some kind of...uhhhh...you know, that guy with the funny hat? You know what I mean, the Green Eggs and Splam guy!"

Yeah, that's gonna' be great! I can't wait.

ETA - You thought Trump was an amateur, well, you ain't seen NOTHIN' yet!!!! LOL!!!

Heh, and all you liberal gloaters already KNOW it's gonna' happen, and you're already cringing about how you might be able to fix it, or hide it!!! LOLOLOL!!!!

The more the Executive uses Executive Orderers to by pass congress and compromise the more I believe we will see this ping pong where the next administration cancels out the last administration. Trump did it to Obama; Biden will do it to Trump and if Biden continues to lead through executive order, as the last two presidents did, the next administration will cancel him out.

No, President Trump had a GOP majority in the House and Senate, Biden would not.

In reality, Biden can't to jack #. Welcome to 4 years of Carter-esque malaise.

I would agree with statment; but thats just one more negative change younger generations have to deal with. If society doesn't teach them about how banks work ... or worse propagandized them to into ignoring how debt affects them in the long run ... thats one more hurdle they have that their parents and grandparents didn't.

Unfortunately I don't see it getting any better. I find it a bit overwhelming trying to compete for my own children's attention with all the distractions out there and how closed off their school life has become.

Hopefully for my children our current good fortune will continue at least until they are through much of their teen age years and early 20s so that we can help them. But even that seems like a double edge sword. I learned a great deal coming from a family that had little outside of what they worked for each day. My kids won't get that same lesson. They see a world that is easy to live in; they will be in for a rude awakening if it ever comes up to slap them in the face.

I would prefer we progress as well. But the majority of the country keep voting in Congressman that don't do anything and Presidents like Obama, Trump and now likely Biden who seek out the quick win afforded to them through executive orders.

I don't see it changing any time soon. Its been baked into our instant gratification society.

To the happy camps where we can learn how not to be racist or die trying, preferably the latter, but not until we've made lots and lots of Nikes for Prince LeBron.

It's not the job of the gubmint to teach that loans come with interest and a payback, a consequence. Every kid in America knows, if you borrow money from a loan shark, he's gonna' break your knees if you don't pay!

The only difference here is, people are pleading with the gubmint to not let the loan shark break their knees when they can't pay!! It's real simple!

I'm sorry, ignorance is not a defense. Legally, or metaphorically.

If Biden pulls it off, I'm going to tap into the huge money shift that will occur.

The stock market has been excited about this possibility all week also.

I didn't say it was the governments job; I implied it was society's job.

Very kid in America does not know if you borrow money from a loan shark, he's gonna' break your knees if you don't pay. You question it yourself if they have been condition to ignore this fact.

Kids don't condition themselves; they are condition by the older generations in society. If they have been conditioned to ignore how debt works thats not their fault; its society's fault for conditioning them in that way.
