in a nation of 300 million your national government is decided by a media discussion between 2 talking heads.
Theres zero conversation on the economy, schools, jobs, taxes, general topics, people topics, let alone the current how they are going to handle the curent fear of the people due to the covid pandemic.
Is a federal government really working?
If the federal government can be compared to the EU, imagine one EU federal government election making decisions for all EU countries? that would never happen.
The EU sees the sense that different decisions have different impacts on different EU countries.
Is it not about time that the US realises that federal decisions affecting so many people on such different issues are unworkable?
How a restaurant is locked down for 3 months in Utah is completely alien as to how a bar is shut down in New York.
Local regulations are in place fersure, but, these local regulations affect people on a daily basis... my job is my immediate concern... not sleepy joes concern re: the Supreme court, or pussy grabbers non issue grandstanding.
The US has become so insular that they dont even realise the world is watching.
Once a mighty nation, is now a joke (US nation - Thursdays on AMC).

It's not the Federal government who is shutting down state economies, it's the governors of those states who CHOSE to shut them down.

Not being in the US (irish) ill not specify on specifics of county/state/federal laws, the point being your 4 year national elections globally focus on presidential/federal elections. I get theres probably local elections that focus on local issues and rightly so, but the system is so broken that that the biggest mouth filters down.

it's looking like the answer is yes. it's not just bruised, it's beat the # up and smashed in. it it were a car, we would be arguing about it being a total loss. I hope there is a top notch body man somewhere in the back.

is it time to dismantle the federal system? and go state wide, like a EU system?
The national system is just not working on every single level - education, taxes, jobs, housing, homelessness, even idealogy. There is no UNITED states. probably time to end it.

No more broken than any other corrupt government siding with globalism versus freedom of what was once proud tradition.

I watch plenty of video's out of the UK, Europe, Australia and I see the same things. Capitalism bad, freedom bad and anyone who speaks out about it differently than the pre approved globalist talking points is a racist/nazi.....

I guess we should just call it quitting time. What do my fellow United States citizens think? Should we just throw the towel in and figure oh sh!t the constitution doesn't work?

These kinds of discussion lead-ins frustrate me. Why? I'll tell you why.

Because ultimately, the problem is not the government or the politicians; it's the stupid, uninformed, lazy, apathetic, greedy electorate that puts these asses in office in the first place.

See, we have these things called elections, and if somebody really sucks at his or her job, we have the power to replace them. Or, at least we have in the past. The same ignorance and apathy may be costing us that right.

At any rate, this is mostly the fault of the electorate. How man times have I asked the question:

If the farmer puts the fox in charge of the hen house, who will you blame for the perfectly foreseeable, unmitigated disaster that will follow, the farmer or the fox?

Without a doubt, the farmer is the one at fault. The fox is just being a fox.

When you vote crooks into office, or when you keep a man in office for over 40 years who has NEVER done anything worthwhile, it's not his fault if he abuses his office and ignores the welfare of his electorate. What would you expect?

WAKE UP, PEOPLE!!! EXCEPT THAT MAYBE IT'S TOO LATE...

Gotta slightly disagree,
in most countries brian is running against adam cause brian wants to lower national taxes to help john the fisherman feed his family , whereas Adam thinks taxes should be raised to solve the national debt; local issues that affect local people; noone cares about globalism , nazism , left wing or right wing, those running realise the issues that affect the electorate and address those day to day issues.. theres no need to introduce side issues such as left wing vs right wing, because politicians realise that people are not that easily influenced. unfortunately US are that easily infulenced.

It's not the constitution that does not work.

If I never maintain my car, if I never change the oil, if I use cheap, crappy gasoline, if I never do any work on it and the car breaks down, is it the car's fault?

No, it's my fault for not paying attention to the needs of the car.

This is where we are. The Constitution is an incredible document. The problem is the people (the citizenry, the electorate) that should uphold it. Ultimately, the responsibility of upholding the Constitution lies with We The People. The Constitution's primary purpose is to PLACE LIMITS ON THE GOVERNMENT, not to give it power. This places the responsibility on us, the citizens, to see that it is honored and enforced. We have failed in that.

Maybe educate yourself on how it works before trying to tell us how to fix it.

And take your EU and cram it up your cram hole.

Not being a smartass, but let me fix that for you: "Is it time to dismantle the federal system? And go BACK to state sovereignty? Like we were founded and intended to be???"

Because that's the thing. The Feds were never intended or desired to be this big and this powerful, and the 9th and 10th amendments were established for this very purpose.

But all that changed with the Civil War, and only gotten worse since then.

The Federal Government has no actual control over the States' actions regarding Covid. I think you need to do some more research on how our government works.

Here where I am, the mayor has control of how Covid impacts us.

States' Rights are protected in the US Constitution and how it works in the States' is determined by State Constitutions. The US Constitution is the ruling document, but States', as long as they don't violate Constitutional protections, rule themselves.

Each State is unique, with its own culture and personality.

Biden and Trump may talk like they have some control, but in reality all they can do is assist.

The UNDEMOCRATIC EU with appointed "commissioners" is NOT an example for anyone, it should be condemned.

but my Sky News and Daily Mail said....

The European Union is the type of governance you get when the populations lived under the yoke of monarchies and dictatorships for the vast majority of their histories.

America isn't broke and if you knew its history it goes through these spells every now and then, besides you can talk when the EU can actually defend itself militarily without "old broke America's" help.

And THIS is where the US and the rest of the world differ. We just dont get your fall back on the constitution.
Even the "Amendments" suggests the constitution is open to change, amendments by definition means change - change to the original document.
you ask 100% of people has the country changed in the last 200 years, youl get 100% yes. why is it so alien to you that a 200 year old document can evolve?
And this is not a specific question; this is systematic of how the world sees the US. - And you can "Yea RUMSFLED" all you want... it doesnt change how the global economy s'n-word's at the US. The idiot cousin.

I dont think ur being a smart arse at all. I think ur right on the money.
Something that big just cant be run by one pretend party that is pretending to run the entire country.
I dont know if decentralization/de-federalisation would work, but something needs to happen. The US is no longer fit for purpose. Thats a fact, im not pro or negative US one way or the other, im just stating the fact, the world is watching, and the world is laughing.
