"beliefs" sorry i am Dyslexic.

You tell me?

Spill the beans so to speak.

After all they are your beliefs, I can't tell you what they are.

Very confusing.

You are the one who suggested I had beliefs, here :

Don't you let anything like actual facts and physics get in the way of your ""believes"".

What beliefs are you talking about ?

Please point them out, as my main reason to be here is to investigate my beliefs, so you would be helping me out.

"I'm not so much interested in FE'ers beliefs".

Ah. On the fence are we? No, you fell off that fence a while back.

Why do you think all of those might be lying?

Sure, you can question them, but, lying?

Why?

Howz about you stop telling us which posts we can star?

Since that's not true : it's just another belief, a story.

Errr...what are these "beliefs" of yours that you refer to but claim not to have?

There seems to be two types of Flat Earthers, gullible folk who actually believe in it, and those that don't but just like to argue for the sake of arguing?

I think you fall into the latter category.

I'm not so much interested in FE'ers beliefs.

I'm more interested in Ball-Earther's beliefs.

That means you have no concern for what models our world more accurately. And leads to the most an accurate predictions involving tides, and movements of the heavens. Or lends to the most accurate engineering.

Again. The reason an equatorial mount is designed the way it is, and works is because the earth is spherical. That’s not a belief, that’s fact.

Why folks believe in science,

Again ..

But no matter “our understanding” a rock from my driveway is a rock. And no matter how much you think about it, it still has the same composition and shape it always has had from the time of being in my driveway. Unless I take a sledge hammer to it for example.

So like the earth. It has a basic shape and structure. And this thread started out why the sun works in such a way to illuminate clouds the way documented because the earth is a certain shape.

The opening post of this thread makes an observation and models how the observation works.

Now. Care to debunk the opening post.

I'm not sure I understand the question.

The question is, what would be the point of lying about earth being a globe if it really were flat?

If the earth was really flat then science would have marched on pretty much the same, except for that bit. We might still be flying through space. The creation/evolution argument would probably still be happening. We probably would have still gone through scientific progress just about the same. Space exploration might have been easier if you just had to drop off the edge.

So, what would be the point of lying about it?

OK thanks for explaining.

My mind doesn't work like that, and I don't view things that way.
In other words : that's not what the lies are about.
They are not hiding a flat earth from us, I don't buy any of the FE stuff.
They are using misdirection.

The science that they give us : is the science that appears to work.
Science that works, will be taught to us as children.
That's why so few doubt it : because it mostly works.

The lie is not that the real earth is flat.
The lie is our true origins, our history, our very essence.

As professor Donald Hoffman puts it : ( paraphrasing ) we are taught that we are small tiny insignificant things, but it's the opposite.
He suggests that this physical universe is simply like a VR headset. A restrained, limited existence.
He suggests what we really are, is sovereign creators, whom are never told or our true nature.
He suggests that space-and time are not fundamental, but consciousness is.

Who knows for sure ?
I'm not in their spot, and don't understand all of their possible motivations.

Are you here to defend them ?

The science that they give us :

Why do you need “science”?

You can make simple observations, or thought experiments.

For people in South America, Africa, and Australia when they look to the south at night they see the same constellations.

Something like this

For a flat model, a south celestial pole is useless. Doesn’t accurately model our world.

The opening post of this thread covers how the heliocentric model of our solar system correctly models what is witnessed for a sunrise or sunset. Flat earth completely fails to explain what happens at sunrise and sunset.

I live in the same world as you, and I see the same things.
I see that the science " works ".

I am also aware, that no scientific instrument is perfect, just as our senses and interpretations, are not perfect.
How can anyone be 100% sure about anything ?

It is beyond my understanding, why some look at a picture on the internet, are convinced of anything at all.
Especially in these days of AI-imaging, deep-fake, photoshop, agendas, narratives, larks, deceptions, lies, disinfo, etc...

Those are stories, and some believers fall for them.

Science is a grouping of stories, that provide us with many working-models.
Some work better, or worse than others.

I'm not interested in debunking the OP, but I can see that is what you want.
