I'm talking about the modern era besides 2000 cluster ---- none in the 30's then maybe Dewey defeats Truman in the 40's but that was just late west coast totals 50's 60's 70's 80's don't think there were any disputed Presidential elections. 1918 will still had horse drawn carriages, now it's all about political shenanigans.

The 1960 votes counts for some states were not settled until well after Election Day when both California and Hawaii flipped for Nixon and Kennedy respectively.

No, that 600 is what was ultimately decided, after all the legal shenanigans.
it started as more than 1500
shrank to about 300 after machine recounts.
That's when the Gore team came up with the hanging chad gimmick.
But all that was after the fact, kind of like a football team down by 24 points with 5 minutes to play,
and then they score a couple of tds as time dwindles to make it look closer than it was.

I remember watching The McGloughlin Group ( remember that? ) the Friday after the election, and the panel was pretty much in agreement that Gore was a goner, even the left leaning members,,and that was 3 days later. There was no scenario of Gore winning unless intent of ballots were judged, and that wasn't going to happen because of time limitation.

And it was still not resolved the day before it was due so don't be surprised if it happens again, it won't be the first time or even the second time.

But it didn't change the results of the election was my point. Pretty sure Kennedy was declare the winner the election night, pretty sure he was declared when Texas results came in thanks LBJ and Illinois came in thanks, Sam Giancana. By that time he had enough and it wouldn't have made a difference he had only 3 western states New Mexico and aforementioned Hawaii along with Nevada for a whopping total of 10 electoral votes. Point was it was long decided before Cali and certainly Hawaii voted

Granted it wasn't the 24/7 days a week news media then, not to mention we were a more sedate public in general. There certainly wasn't the general mistrust of the media nor the government and the voting process

Nixon did not formally concede until the next afternoon as the election was too close to call that evening.

And honestly, if people have an issue with this coming election not being settled that night then they're going to have to suck TF up, there's no rule saying a result must be determined that evening.

If it's close on election night and we don't know like 2000, that is one thing, it is quite another if Trump blows out Biden on election night, but like a dead revived race horse he comes from the back of the pack in the final furlong to win a month later; well I think most everybody will have an issue with that, and Trump won't be sucking that up and you know it.

If the respective states certify the results he'll have to.
