I do have one regret/confession.

I never, ever did see eye to eye with Kali on anything, but that didn't stop me from crying like a baby when she passed.

Kali was a rare one!

You can respect the hell out of somebody who you have zero in common with and disagree on everything! Sadly it's not very common around here.

Me and you are like Chalk and Cheese, especially politically. I do however consider you one of the smarter ones around this place and always read and consider your posts/points.

SERIOUSLY, the world is crashing down all around us, day by day it gets worse. 2020 is not 6 full months in. Yet most of us see the writing on the wall. I have no desire to move in time to January 2021.

Now, we find out that the ONE place we go to, for some semblance of logic and reasoning, (for the most part) from the fu##ed up world we live in — will be dust to the effing wind......

How will I really know what’s TRULY going on in the world?

Ah gawrsh, thanks. Honestly, I like pretty much everyone here agree or disagree as I may.

As much as it may not seem like it, people have gotten me to re-examine some of my positions and tweak them ever so slightly over the years. And there are quite a few who have such interesting points of view that they were always worth a think even if I was ultimately going to not really agree.

Astyanax!!!

One person who absolutely boiled my blood but I could never actually argue with is Astyanax. I also don't know if he/she/it was a Buddha or a Pol Pot refugee. No idea at all.

But that person could disarm a debate in a minute through facts.

I'm almost sure it was Phage before he went political and lost the plot.

Yeah, I've got very few good feels about the future at this point. My life is steady and stable, but everything else is crumbling. I don't know how long our little piece of tranquility here lasts.

That's the same for me honestly, I'm far less dismissive of opposing views thanks to this place and the characters that have been here over the years. I still have my own mind like you and won't always be swayed, but it changes things when you try to understand where others are coming from first instead of straight up getting into a verbal combat.

Serious question:

How long does ATS have left?
Has an announcement been made....or are we just speculating?

Honestly I don't see eye to eye with most people. But I love many of them just the same. In fact, it's rarely as special when I do see eye to eye with someone. Love can be tricky, and you know it's real after dealing with adversity. Just not the same when it's with someone just like yourself.

Wasn't that TrueAmerican who had the seismos and was monitoring them? They had a YouTube live site I thought. Occasionally, he would drop in and Jaded & Cynical was keeping touch with that group I thought.

Yeah, that's it. I went to it a few times and haven't heard from J&C in awhile.

If these really are the last days of ATS I guess this is the last chance to say this. It's been a wild ride over the years, bearing witness to remarkable contributions but also the lolz and the trollz.

Before I go, I just want to tell the ATS members, you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.
And do you know what? So was I.

Well, I came here for the craziest of reasons--I was looking for somewhere to start a Moby Dick bookclub (ketsuko, that was fun!), but stayed for years of true friendship and fellowship.

My all-time favorite ATS moment was meeting you, GL, and Byrd for a really fantastic outing. Byrd's tour through the museum was a treat and a privilege, you are a real gentleman (I won't tell anyone here, it would ruin the whole baby eating thing, well they won't believe me anyway), a great storyteller and friend, and Lou has so much talent and love to give. That was just a delightful and memorable time.

There's so much more, too. Hazardous has such a big heart and I count him as a friend.
It was ATS (you and Night Star, among others) that gave me the confidence to write and share my fiction.
Lots of members right here in this thread have been good for good discussion, a laugh, a kind or supportive word.

Man, I will miss this place.

I don’t know if it’s already been posted here or not but Djarums just posted in the “stay in touch” thread that they’re giving site-wide permission to exchange contact info if members would like to do so.

ETA - I’d also point out that given this development, I think the writing is on the wall and the clock has begun its countdown.
