Phage and Astyanax are not the same person. Phage is in Hawaii, and Astyanax is in India.

Phage sort of pushes facts in your face, take them or leave them. (I always appreciated the corrections, personally) and he always backs up what he says. Fantastic human being.


Astyanax, on the other hand, put the facts on a shovel, and buried you with them. But also, a fantastic human being.

Professional lurker here, 12 years worth on ATS and I just want to say thank you to everyone. I mean everyone, even the ones I almost punched my computer screen as I read their posts. Probably better I lurked more than typed, I R not SMRT.

This place has been so full of such incredible information and such utter and completely enraging BS, there has never been and will never be another site like it.

I have been immensely enjoying my professional lurking in this thread....(crap I broke rule 13 about never posting)

Anyway cheers to all, a virtual toast in your poison of choice.

I will be eternally grateful to ATS because it better prepared me to face a world of uncertainty and confusion without flinching (much.)

I am sorry for those times that I misread a post or the intention of a post and descended into snark unneccessarily.

The world is changing rapidly, and the pace will be picking up for that change in the near future. Change will not necessarily destroy you.

I will definitely miss the posts by Arbitrageur. I learned a lot from him and the links he posted. I remember when he had a thread in Science and Technology devoted exclusively to questions in physics. Wow, what a shame to lose all that great material.

I will also miss my battles in the Creationist forum. Also a lot of good information posted there. I learned a lot by doing research into questions and replies in so many threads.

Learning and debate. We learn from each other and stimulate our brains to research and discover.

I always thought ATS attracted more people who really knew their stuff. That will be sorely missed.

XCOM is a turn-based strategy game. You can see your percentage chance to take hits before you make them, but supposedly, there is a true die roll involved. There is a very real possibility that 98, 99, and 100% chance to-hits can fail. The animation in game for this is stupid funny before often you are standing right on top of the enemy so you start out with your gun pointed right at his face, and at the last second, it pulls sharply off to some ridiculous direction.

There is a saying that people who play XCOM have - "That's XCOM, baby!" - that goes with the ridiculous things that can and sometime do happen as a result. There have been some truly spectacular FUBARs that have occurred in games.

As to Civilization, it's one you actually can play against other live players. I don't because I'm not that good at it. But I've tended to give other world leaders nicknames over the years. Those were some of my nicknames.

Catherine of Russia wears a lowcut dress and tends to have a stompy/flouncy attitude that always highlights her, erm, assets. So she got called Bewbs because they always get bounced, a lot.

Wilhemina of the Dutch looks like a grandmotherly Angela Landsbury, and she gets very disapproving very quickly if you fail to trade with her enough. So she's Angry Angela Landsbury. She has a counterpart from one of the African civs who acts exactly the same even if she doesn't look like Angela Landsbury, but she's been labeled Black Angry Angela Landsbury because I have yet to find her real world counterpart.

Nuking Gandhi is Civ legend. In the first game, it was a bug. Gandhi is supposed to be peaceful all the time, but the circumstances created a bug that could set him beyond aggressive by mistake, so he would go off the deep end and nuke everyone and everything. It was so funny that it's become a legend now and something Gandhi kinda, sorta just does. He plays the happy grandfather right up until he lobs warheads into your backyard, and he is the only world leader I've ever gotten into a nuclear exchange with. He started it!

Booty Call is a play on the name. She's always angry too. Boudicca is one of the more warlike Civ leaders with the Celts. Even when she's happy with you, she acts angry. She's got a sword she's always stabbing into things.

Pecs has a story. They didn't have the Khmer in Civ 5, but a player added them in a mod. I picked up the mod because I liked playing a range of different Civs all the time. The picture the player used in their mod was ripped right off a GQ/Men's Health mag with these fabulous pecs. So I started just referring to him as Pecs because his name was a mouthful starting with "S". In the Civ 6, the devs actually added the Khmer with Jayavarman. The name is far more pronounceable and his pecs are more like moobs now, but the nickname from before sort of stuck. The leader of the Khmer is officially Pecs to me.

Couple of threads I'm going to try to archive here. One of the most fascinating aspects of this site is the ability to venture close to the abyss...close enough to see one being observed from the other side.

I spent many years enjoying this site. I will honestly say my grievance is the absolutely toxic nature of the current political climate. I find I haven't had the energy to play the false dichotomy any longer. I am still very much interested in conspiracy topics.

Shout out to post a funny pic, all of you who participated, thank you, it's been a help.

ps: i saw a post about an ats subreddit, while i believe its good to carry on the conversation I don't believe reddit is the proper place. It might be good for a place holder?

Some ATS memories:

1. My first thread ever was removed almost immediately, within an hr of posting it.

I wrote about my stuff where I specifically remember referencing feeling like Winston in 1984, but the responses during that time on the original thread and on my introduction thread were so amazing, the people of ATS were so responsive and supportive that I was immediately drawn in. It was all thanks to TechniXcality who found me in a random chat on the internet and brought me here to share my story.

2. All the ATS meet ups I've had thanks to AugustusMasonicus!

My first impression of AugustusMasonicus on ATS was that he was a bit trolly, but I loved it. I think he started "trolling" my threads or the threads I was being drawn into due to the nature of those threads, but I thought he was hilarious and his intelligence super attractive.

And now over the years we have gathered and invited other ATS members to meet us annually. I have met some amazing ATS members with their own great stories, Bryd the smartest human being I know, Dashen the Q thread creator, Zosimov my love, Slayer69 lol, petervlar, tadaman love always, and others- they have made a deep impact on me and some I consider to be my friend for life. I will always cherish those ATS meetup memories.

3. All the ATS friends I made but haven't been able to meet, you know who you are, you've made a difference in my life. I love you.

4. And more, all the threads I lurked on and learned things from. I'm a huge lurker off and on, big reader here.

I am really quite sad about the state of ATS at the moment. Wish I could help out more.

I would be remiss if I didn't thank the beautiful lady ATS mod I met in a bar in Santa Fe. It was a long time ago but I haven't forgotten that time or you.
