Then he should have ran and not stolen a tazer. That is intent to harm. Why else would you grab it?

Like so many cases he could be at home right now. He engaged the minute he took the tazer. If he had not done that, and was simply running away I would feel different. So will a grand jury.

Why would he be running away with it if he was intent on hurting the officers with said "taser"?

He did a silly thing, given what police can and will do under such circumstances, but i don't think he deserved to die.

Not silly. Stupid. Bad choice. How does that make him a martyr for the cause?

As far as running away, he should have dropped the tazer and ran like Carl Lewis. He didn't.

So stupid people deserve to die? Stupid people with nonlethal weapons?

That cant be right.

As to him running away, or how he did so, the man was intoxicated, and as the cops own cams show, he was shot in the back.

What he should have done is complied with the officers, spent the night in the cells, and faced a judge in the morning or at a later date, if we are honest.

Can't really argue with this mate. At the end of the day he did a very stupid thing, but he didn't deserve to die for it. I am pretty sure if he were given his life back he wouldn't have done that, but we will never know now.

Also, he seems to be a bit of a lowlife character, so it does not surprise me that some people say good riddance, but it just pains me to think life is so cheap that stealing an item deserves death.

I don't live in the US though, and have no say, just wanted to say you make sense even if, at the end of the day, I understand the overarching premise of armed police.

Well if we start killing people for simply being stupid that's the population problem well under control and probably the end for the greater part of humanity really.

Its a hell of a situation, and like you suggest with a little hindsight, the guy, lowlife character, or otherwise would probably have chosen a different response.

It just pains me that life seems to be so cheap these days, and that's just not right.

That's what made me so angry. Doesn't matter if he is white black brown or yellow or orange, shooting a drunk man in the back twice is inexcusable.

A police officer with that type of mindset should never be allowed to interact with Society again.

His life span in prison will be measured in terms of weeks...or at the most, a few months.

Don't help when you also kick the dying body.

It's just sad.

Is he kicking Brooks, or kicking away the weapon? Because the cop's atty say's the bodycam footage say's different, and that the DA will be eating lot's of crow. Additionally he says the footage shows the officer administering CPR, and saying "breathe buddy, don't die on me". Doesn't sound like the words of a murderer (murder was the case that they gave him, right?), but we'll wait and find out.

I guess we will need to wait and find out.

Kicking away a spent Taser???

Could see the point if it was real gun.

Maybe his words were for the footage, after realizing what he had just done on camera?

If he did not want him to die on him shooting him twice sure did not help.

It's a picture. See, what I heard is that when he approached he kicked the tazer away. Then, they administrated CPR. What better way to infuriate than to state someone was 'kicked' while down but I see no video showing it.

NEVER said he deserved to die. Not once. However, again, if he would have allowed himself to be handcuffed and processed he would be alive.

However, when you do something 'stupid' like try to resist and escape officers, wrestle with them till you steal a tazer well you MIGHT get shot.

Have you ever been in a fight? Just curious.....

Shot twice whilst trying to escape and then kicked would be a more accurate portrayal.

Of course, they administrated CPR, they were on camera, if they did anything else that really would be evidence against them.

According to Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard, said that "former Atlanta officer, Garrett Rolfe kicked Rayshard Brooks "while he laid on ground, while he was there fighting for his life" after he was shot.

Put it this way any scars i have are upfront.

I'm getting a little long in the tooth for fighting these days, 45 next month. LoL

Let you into a little secret, you pick your fights in this world mate, else you are not doing it right.

I hope that satisfies any curiosity.

Naw mate its the courts that will decide the guilt or innocence of the so-called officers in question, not threads on ATS.

It's not us that are prosecuting them, or that will judge them, but their peers i imagine.

Nah mate. You misunderstood me again. I just wanted to see your thoughts when you realize how the cops will walk because they were overcharged and the DA is rooting for riots.

My thoughts would be, i wish they had not killed some daft man running away when the matter could have been resolved or mitigated to a fashion that did not involve homicide and shooting the fellow twice in the back.

There seems to be rather a lot of ""misunderstandings"" going around right now where the use of lethal Police force is concerned.

If they are stupid enough to attack a cop with what is classified as a deadly weapon - than yeah, they could die. He could have lived by the way - if he was shot but survived do you think this would have even made the news?

There has to be a penalty for attacking cops - otherwise it becomes a common occurrence. If it becomes a common occurrence cops will get killed - and people won't take the job.

As for the people saying the cops should have just let him run away - do you realize if he gets killed in traffic or kills someone the cops would be held responsible legally?

This is not difficult, if you are being arrested that is the end of the story - you have to fight for your rights in court, not with the cops.

Sure is, it's people like you who are confused.

The law is plain as day. If an officer is shot with a deadly weapon he can respond with deadly force. A taser is listed in Georgia law as a deadly weapon.

There is no way in hell the officer should have been charged for shooting him. It is completely at odds with the law he was acting under.

I agree he should not have acted as he did.

I just don't think he deserved to die via cop bullet for his stupidity.

As to Tasers, I've been tased, deadly weapon my arse, just not very nice.

Its not difficult you're correct, but neither would it have been difficult for Police to resolve the situation in another manner.

And dont give me the cops had to kill him because he may have been a traffic hazard, and they would have been liable, because if that's not stretch i don't ken what is. LoL
