Two things still don’t make sense.

How do we know they maneuvered to avoid the person. That was not evident in the audio from the cockpit.
How do you maneuver a plane left or right at those speeds. Is there precedence for a large 737 plane having that much agility to maneuver to avoid objects on the runway.

Also, I still don’t understand why the pilot say “they“ are behind us. Sound like more than one. But I guess one could say “they” referring to a generalization of an individual.

*** STILL AN ACTIVE INVESTIGATION***
I don't have all the info and I'm not FAA, FBI, AIRPORT AUTHORITY ETC ETC ETC

For starters...

Yes the pilot and ATC(air traffic control tower) transcript stated so.
I already linked that Austin international airport has a problem with a homeless colony getting onto airport property ( be it hopping or going through holes in the fence ) while one person actually was struck and killed. Unless you or myself possess the black box ( we don't ), we don't know what the control surfaces of W401WN did, that is in the possession of the FAA.

We as in Average Joe Public only has a very rudimentary idea of what happened ...

Pilot did say "they" And claimed to maneuver. One person "Ko" is dead. Data for us regular Joe's ended right when southwest touched the ground And not onto the gate. Flightradar24 didn't even proceed past wheels down.

Still an active investigation, and will be till completed and released.

They're quite capable of steering on the rollout. They're not going to be able to make a radical maneuver, but they can try to kick it over to avoid impact, or lessen it.

Thanks guys. I’m just to put it together, you guys both have experiences in this arena, obviously I don’t.

You have to realize people like try to make sense of things but can only In the context of their experience. So i appreciate your understanding in tryin to explain this situation.

So..It would be like if I was driving and saw a skunk in the middle of my lane. I was about to hit it and swerved to try and miss it. But because I swerved the skunk went under my tires. If I would have stayed straight the skunk would have had a better chance to survive going under the car.

I wonder how far out the pilot was before he maneuvered the plane.

Also if the airport knew of the problem of homeless penetrating the airports perimeter but have had no prior incidents of them making it to the run way, then this was a fairly big mis for the airport security. They obviously had some control the problem well up to this point. I wonder what the point of failure was to allow such a major breach in security that let this guy on the runway.

Imagine that skunk being a cross wind that you're adjusting to.

Minus the front landing gear but I believe you get it.

You couldn't have said it better.👍

“They” doesn’t have to mean more than one. Often when the sex of an individual (he/she) is not known, or shouldn’t be revealed the pronoun they is used, both for singular or plural.
