Suicide is my bet. It was dark and tower didn't even know he was there, he waits for approaching airplane and times his jump to runway. A friend of mine flies for SW and talked to one of the pilots. The engine got him not the nosewheel. The crew saw the man closely as they went by.

How do we known it was only one person. They could have the accomplice running off. Maybe a friend was out there with him, playing chicken with a 737.

There was an operations vehicle there fairly quickly, and there are no other reports of people, so it appears there was only one.

Not an employee.

abcnews.go.com...

A man was struck and killed by a Southwest Airlines plane as it was landing on the runway of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport late Thursday, according to airport officials.

The man who died was not an employee at the airport and hopped the perimeter fence to gain access to the runway, Austin airport spokesperson Bryce Dubee confirmed to ABC News.

"We are treating it as a security breach," Dubee said. "This is the first time we've had a runway incursion like this. We have had the occasional security breach, but no one has ever gotten onto an active runway at the airport."

Ok I can see the confusion as to whether if it was one or two. There was only one.

"Where exactly do you see the man?" the controller asked.

"They are behind us now," the pilot said.

Gee Wizz i can't find any information on the victim's name. Must be seriously (naturally if hit by a landing aircraft) damaged not to get a print or a wallet with identification. No updates...

It's probably going to come down to dental records or DNA.

Foreign Object Debris.
Pilot would have come to a stop with that kind of damage. But then again, a 737 v.s. a human when the 737 is going over 100+ mph... humans can only take so much.

Depending on the jet, FOD could get really interesting. The F-16 required sweepers before they taxied, both in and out.

F-16s are notorious FOD eaters.

I spent 5 years working on F-16s... a full month of that time, was devoted to "FOD walks".

We used to joke about how spotless the ramp was after they taxied.

I hated pulling the nose gear pin, during launches. Hated it. (For the non-initiated... this is done with a running engine. Engineers are a-holes. The nose landing gear, is located directly below the intake. The intake of an F-16; well, it sucks as hard as the Detroit Lions. I have a serious love/ hate realtionship with that airframe.)

I've done it hundreds of times... and I hated every one.

Hated it. I really cannot stress that, enough...

Still no identification.

Many hours ago.
www.clickorlando.com...

Austin police said the victim was not dressed as an airport worker and didn’t have any identification. The airport said the victim was an “unauthorized individual.

I was working on the flight deck of the Independence and zigged when I should have zagged and felt a hard yank from the intake of A-7. I was almost FOD,

Well folks,
Nothing yet as to the identification of this male victim yet. I fear that this person is...

1: a homeless person with no friends or family looking for him.
2: an undocumented immigrant that that no one knows is in the U.S. and therefore no one will be looking for.

This victim's identity will possibly not be found.

Patience...

Let's just hope Bill Gates was just sticking himself into various other places he had no business in.

I doubt the world could be so lucky though to be rid of that monstrous of a many headed Hydra beast...

Not to be disrespectful to the fact someone died. Really though I felt I needed to lighten the mood before I asked my real question as it is a really ugly one. Im sorry.

Without being gross though, was he struck by the plane or landing gear or did he go inside one of those spinning jet turbine thingies and get pushed through the parts in it and exited from the back in whatever condition that puts a person in.. please I don't need details of the mechanism of a death of such a manner, just the mode of death...plane or spinning part?

I lived near Tampa, Florida as a kid, and I can remember alligators wandering onto the runway at Tampa International Airport, and there being some close calls. Of course an alligator is a lot lower to the ground than a homo sapiens, so its more of a tire issue than an engine one.

There’s an old safety video of that happening, the thing that saved the guys life was his cranial (Helmet) foding out the engine right as his body was getting sucked into the engine duct. Lucky he didn’t have strapped on properly! Was that you??
