Sounds like the left wants their states to open but damn the Republican states, the left wants them closed. Why, those states are import states, they benefit from sales of imports that American factories can't make right now.

Hasn't it always been in their hands to open or close their states?

That's the way it should be. A president is not meant to micro manage every state.

The loss needs to be greater than the stimulus package. A big issue for broke states.
Imo..it needs to cause enough grief to cause the citizens to support a war.

Quick, shut down the boat ramps and isolated parks were you normally won't see A person.

She's already talking June 1 now. Most companies have found a way around the stupid and are working. My company goes back next week without permission because?? We didn't ask again, just interpreted the rules our way and are moving forward.
With nearly $10 million a week in payroll with people on leave you gotta move.

I want to get things rolling as soon as safely possible but NYC is still aways off.

It's good that they are thinking about it though.

Reading this ... it sounds like the opening shots of a Civil War to me.

The governors of the coasts joining into a pact to try to strangle the rest of the country economically by deciding they won't open the ports until they're darn good and ready to do it ... which may not be until they've carried the rest of us down into hell.

No...i live in PA, been paying attention to this and they have joined a pact NOT TO REOPEN until they are ALL ready. Because they are in close proximity and people from all over go to NYC etc etc. Think of people longing on the edge of a state who travel between states for work

It's also unconstitutional for the states to enter into pacts with one another. There's a clause in the COTUS.

What this virus says is all of your lines and boundaries make no sense," Cuomo said,

Isn't that a concession that this is a federal issue?

Article 1, Section X of the Constitution says, "No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay."

My bad, they can with Congressional approval. But if their compact to keep their states shuttered until such time as they choose is seriously damaging the other states, how likely do you think it will be that they manage to get Congressional approval?

I've said from the start that the damage to the economy will be worse than the damage done by the virus.
Start the damn engine...

yes sir indeed , it is time to get this show on the road.

Which begs the question as to why they were so willing to de-rail the economy in the first place, honestly this was preventable , yes there was a virus but still was it worth all this ?

My granddaughter works in a lab on the west coast for a major university on the CoV19 virus. They have identified two mutations so far. She thinks a much worse wave may be on the horizon and is extremely worried.

My daughter works in a lab on the west coast for a major hospital/ health insurer. She expects the next wave to come shortly after they lift the restrictions, and thinks we may be having reoccurring lock downs for some time to come.
This virus is beginning to affect younger people. When/if it starts taking children and teens it's going to look a lot different.

The US is between a rock and a hard spot right now. I hope and pray the future isn't as bad as it's starting to look. If restrictions are lifted too soon, we could all be experiencing what New York is going through.

Should we all go back to work and let the virus do its thing? Hope it doesn't mutate into something much more deadly? Or give it a chance to keep mutating, and hope it becomes a much milder illness?

People in my area were very vocal in objecting to the stay at home order, and they passed the time shopping whatever store were open. Cov19 hit and is now taking off. People have decided to stay home, finally, but the horse has already left the barn.

The economy is in the crapper, people are scared and there are no answers. Until it hits your back yard and takes your loved ones, everything being done seems like an overreaction and wrong.

Lol not anymore /sarc

But they are agreeing to let businesses open up in waves together.

I'm indifferent to it at the moment. As long as they don't get political... Which is what out sounds like to me when they say they won't just go back to work when Trump says so.

Trump can open borders between states. He can actually lock down states if Martial law is proclaimed. He has not actually done anything like that. He cannot dictate that a state has to open up their businesses, but he can take away their federal emergency money if they do not comply. Not the medical part, the part that pays people's wages and helps their businesses afloat. The feds do not have to give stimulus money, the president can repeal the funding and tie it up in Washington DC for a very long time. He signed that stimulus bill, he does not have to sign anymore. He can deny funds to states that do not attempt to comply.

If the actions of one state jeopordize the security of other states, the president or congress can take over that state. It goes both ways, they can lock down a state's borders to other states if they do not comply with a mandated quarantine....this virus is not that great of a threat to do that by the way.... or if that state is necessary to feed America or to import necessary items, the president or congress can take over that state. Say New York shut down the stock market trading, the president could take over the governors office and assign someone to fix the problem. A governor can be a dictator too, many citizens of New York do not agree with the crap Coumo is doing, he is being irrational and not working with the feds to help his people, he is trying to force the feds to give him more than he really needs at the expense of the other states safety.
