The tenth amendment of the Constitution meaning is as follows: The Tenth Amendment was part of the Bill of Rights that was added to the Constitution on December 15, 1791. This amendment states that any power not specifically given to the federal government by the Constitution belongs to the States and the people.

The exact wording of the tenth amendment is as follows:The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

So, if the power that Mr Trump is talking about is not specifically listed in the Constitution, they it falls back to the states. Even if Mr Trump threatens the Governors, an issue such as this will be solved in the courts.

Some states legalized marijuana. What does that mean?
I think it means the president has very little power, or he should arrest these governors.
He should also abolish the death penalty!

Again trump has discretion to enforce laws .

Don’t you remember all the headlines when Jeff Sessions said he might enforce the laws ?

I’d like to see the death penalty abolished too. DNA testing has proven LOT’S of innocent people have died .

One is too many .

You kinda answered your own question - or at least the question many were asking... (I'm going to be very simplistic here and just touch on one point because I'm just answering you - have no desire to get into a heated debate with anyone)...

Why did he not exercise his 'state of emergency' / national emergency powers to close states? He knew what would happen to the economy. Why would he choose to exercise that power to "re-open?" He knows what will happen to the economy.

NO... this is definitely not ALL about the economy. But - when people are starving and bills aren't getting paid, the "cure" may indeed end up being worse than the disease. If the disease kills 2% but mental health issues + abuse + other illnesses not getting treated = a larger mortality rate... that is simple math. I personally know 2 people who almost died in the last month because they were non-CV and were discharged too early from the ER (1 of them) and the hospital (the other) to make room for COVID patients. Luckily, they both made it but BOTH are back in the hospital now and likely will be for a while now because their initial issue got worse due to delayed treatment.

But I digress... To circle back to the forum subject... (although, the remainder of my comment is not directed toward your question but is a more general statement regarding this topic)

Today, the President clearly said he was not going to force any state to re-open. Clearly stated that.

And he WAS NOT saying, the other day, that the President ALWAYS had total authority or power. That quote was taken completely out of context and Pence even clarified it as well. However, if a person didn't listen to the whole briefing, and just listened to CNN or a few of the other outlets. they wouldn't know all that.

Thats's why - to answer another poster - there is the need to "bring CNN into this..." CNN and the other liberal news outlets very rarely give full context of a quote/idea they put forward - period. They quite frequently use snippets and clips without regard to context, to paint the story they want people to hear/believe. I graduated from college with a broadcast journalism degree in the early 90's and that's what we were taught back THEN. AND one of the big reasons I decided not to pursue a career in my degree.

That is also why the liberal outlets got so mad about his video yesterday - the video used their own words to make them look dishonest and hypocritical. How can their own words be considered propaganda? I stay out of politics as much as I can (albeit, not always if I have a strong opinion) but the liberal media today, looks more and more like a political propaganda arm of the left and hence, why many conservatives view liberals as the enemy (or other pejorative terms)... Too many (albeit, not all) on the left right now just rely on CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, etc. sound bytes for the "truth" and those sound bytes are VERY carefully chosen to make people believe what these outlets want them to believe.

People can say a lot about President Trump and his style, language, manner, etc... but what you're seeing the leftist media do today is truly the dumbing down of America. It is VERY literally, "Don't think for yourself. Believe only what we tell you. Believe only what we want you to believe. Think like us..."

I’m a trump supporter but his statements rubbed me the wrong way. Most of us (trump supporters) do have minds of our own.

It's hard to believe, but some people are angry that President Trump's name will be printed on the paper Stimulus Checks that will soon be mailed.

Your Check, Courtesy of President Donald J. Trump: www.businessinsider.com...

Since the loudest complaints are coming from those who are always wrong, I view this as a wonderfully shrewd tactic from a man who made Billions by self-promoting. The more they hate, the better this decision looks!

LOL

The only people that will see that signature, in the memo line, because Trump is not a signatory for the US Treasury, are people who don't have bank accounts. For that pleasure, they're going to have to add an extra week to their much longer wait to see that check.

"For what?"

Obstruction of Congress, declaring that he and his staff have absolute immunity.

Yeah, except he never obstructed jack, and he does have this little thing called Executive privilege.

None the less, he is an impeached president, impeached on charges of Obstruction of Congress and Abuse of Power. Deal with it.

He has, erroneously, claimed to have absolute immunity and total power. He has neither.

I'm loving every minute of it, as is Trump. He wears it like a badge of honor now.

Again... no, he hasn't.

Thank you! It’s insane. They twist and contort every damn thing and when they can’t- there’s always Hillary to bring up.

I'm super curious to see what manner of mental gymnastics Trump supporters, who claim to be "Patriots" and honor the Constitution, will provide to justify Trump essentially trying to be a dictator or King. If the past 4 years has shown anything, it's that his base will literally twist reality to justify this nonsense.

People like you baffle me. You “love this.” We know why the narcissistic Trump loves it, but you?

Have you tried therapy? It really does help. There’s something going on with you on a deep level.

Trump tax returns fight: Lawyers say he has absolute immunity from criminal investigations

Trump asks Justices for sweeping legal immunity

Judge Rejects White House Claims of Immunity for Close Aides

I realize you probably won't get this, but his lawyers making this as a legal argument is not the same as him actually believing it himself.

It is an interesting argument though, similar to the fact that Congress critters have absolute immunity from anything they on the floor of Congress.

They represent the president. If he doesn't believe what his lawyers say, then he should make that clear.

Moreover, maybe he shouldn't float the idea of being president for life. Or maybe he shouldn't say that he has 'total authority' over what states can and cannot do. Maybe he shouldn't say 'take the guns now, due process later.'

Maybe he shouldn't try and be a dictator and accept the checks and balances that are imposed on his power by the constitution.

But ... if you don't actually believe what Trump is saying, nor what his supporters are believing, doesn't that take the wind out of your argument?

He acted on the belief and enforced that belief by ordering his staffers to ignore congressional subpoenas.

This is what happens in legal battles. If you don't understand that, then I can't help you...

Moreover, maybe he shouldn't float the idea of being president for life.

Maybe you should try to understand the concept of humor. I know TDS eliminates such things, but you can still try.

Or maybe he shouldn't say that he has 'total authority' over what states can and cannot do.

If it is something wrt a constitutionally delegated power - like protecting the borders - then he does have authority over them.

I agree he - meaning the federal government - actually has very little enforceable authority - definitely not a general police power - inside the States of the Union.

That said, I think he's just playing the lunatics in congress and the MSM - and people like you.

Maybe he shouldn't say 'take the guns now, due process later.'

Guns is one area where I have always had some concern, and I vehemently disagreed with his comment, especially in the context in which it was provided (red flag laws).

Maybe he shouldn't try and be a dictator and accept the checks and balances that are imposed on his power by the constitution.

Thats just it. He isn't trying to be a dictator. The best you can do example wise is point to some silly things he's said intended only to trigger certain people into doing certain things.

You cannot name one solid example of him doing anything even remotely consistent with a belief he is or desire to be a dictator.

Not one.

It is called Executive Privilege. Look it up. Obama used it countless times, as did his minions.

As has pretty much every President since Washington.
