Yes. Yes he is.

I don't think he should get a check any more than I think he should pay the same tax rate as someone who makes $30k.

According to their plan he gets the biggest check, while someone who just scrapes by gets the minimum amount. It is suppose to be a stimulus check, it should go to those most likely to spend it.

Does the trump family need a check?? I only ask because part of this stimulus will be going to prop up the hotel industry I believe and my bet would be that the check that will be sent to them will make what they might send to me look like chickenfeed..

I don't see why they would.
I don't really need it at this point either. I have no doubt there are many who do.

I did...
Not really understanding your point in bringing gates into it. Hes talking about low income people who make so little money, they are not obligated to file taxes...
You are talking about one of the richest men in the country that probably has an army of accountants on hand trying to find every loophole they can fall into to ensure he pays only as much as he has to... and while he might not be qualified to reap the small reward from this little section of the plan, it wouldnt surprise me if he gets a nice big check from some other sections of the plan..

I think you're onto something there. We need to just let the hotels all close. We don't need them anyway.

Of course without hotels there won't be any tourism because there's nowhere to stay. Well, we don't need tourism either. They made too much money.

We can forget the airlines too. Don't need them. No more flying. You can either drive or take a boat. Oh, wait, boats are enclosed high-capacity areas, perfect for virus transmission. OK, drive only. That's one way to get away from using our military overseas.

I just hope no one decides to shut down any pipelines. Without domestic production or overseas production, no more gas. No more diesel. No more driving. No more delivery trucks. If you're not close to a factory that makes it, you can't have it.

That's quite a world you want to live in when this is over.

Lol... I deleted what my first response would have been afraid you might actually take me seriously..
Na, cant tell ya we will all be dead in a couple of months and the deer and bears dont really get into hotels much...

Actually, we probably could stand to lose some hotels. But no, not all of them and I wasnt suggesting that. Just pointing out that people like the trumps and gates are gonna be getting a much bigger windfall in other parts of the bill. But, sooner or later, I imagine they will want to open those hotels back up so it would be nice if their staff were to manage to survive also??
I really do hate the idea that they are bailing out the floating petri dishes though. They should tie a few string strings onto those dollars and try to get them to be a,little more proactive when it comes to controlling infectious diseases on their ships.

You took my point perfectly. Thank you; I needed to smile tonight.

My understanding is they are planning on requiring better medical services on cruise ships after this. If you ask me, it's long overdue. "Floating petri dishes" is an accurate description.

Should I get the stimulus check?

I dont know.. I get ~$750/mo from disability. My family picks up the slack that.. obviously exists. Overall, Im mostly OK with that.

Because its been pretty standard behavior for thousands of years, and it being how I was raised, Ive always put a little aside to maintain a supply buffer.

With a lot of things, this has become difficult or impossible. Trying to do this with any medication is.. Very, Very Frowned Upon.. to put it mildly. Growing up, it was normal to have an extra inhaler, or whatever.

Check wont help that though.

Honestly, if I could somehow work it so that I KNEW that money would go somewhere they needed it.. I wouldnt hesitate. However, thats pretty unrealistic, so I ask myself "would me NOT receiving that money tangibly benefit the situation more than actually receiving it?"

I feel like the answer is "no." I think I might be better equipped to help folks than many, but I am rarely (well.. never) in a position to do so myself.

Its tough.. And while Im not at all convinced its a good idea in the first place, I suppose there is the chance that many of the typical negatives of doing this will be offset by the idea that global markets wont completely tank any given economy.

Probably. But you used a facetious number so I did so too.

I will be working from home. Not everyone can do that. My daughter does not require child care. Many do. I am still employed. Many are not. While $1,200 dollars would be nice, I don't need it. Many do.

Ideally the distribution would be need based and take the current circumstances into consideration. But to expect the government to be able to deal with that is, of course absurd.

I think that in lieu of that, something similar to the tax rate schedule could be utilized. I don't think the Trump family, or the Gates family need a $1,200 check either.

I'd talk to my representatives, but they're democrats so I don't think there's much reason to do so.

I have a BIG mortgage! I have a higher living cost! Who is going to pay for all that!

I have a very big mortgage too. And the cost of living is very high in Hawaii.
My income just covers both, with very little slack. I am paying for both and $1,200 wouldn't put a very big dent it in.

Totally off topic. I just put new batteries in my ear thermometer and the damn thing didn't work. Turns out I was pushing the wrong button, it's been so long since I used it, I forgot how to work it.
