Prime Minister Scott Morrison has moved Australia into pandemic mode, as the coronavirus spreads to 42 countries across the world.

“We’re effectively operating now on the basis that there is one, a pandemic,” Morrison said, declaring the government was now activating its emergency plan.

Its strange..

the whole world took its time to close borders/flights and kept saying this wasnt a big deal..

now suddenly, those same countries are changing course and preparing for a panedmic.

“We believe the risk of a global pandemic is very much upon us and as a result, as a government, we need to take the steps necessary to prepare for such a pandemic.”

Is that top to bottom, high to low? Is so, then the Italians are the lowest group on there.

The lowest of the high risk genetic groups (over 50%).
Still high risk..

Toward the beginning of his briefing, President Trump said that, out of the original 15 cases, 5 have fully recovered and one is in good shape. Does that mean that the other 4 who have fully recovered are not in good shape?

Sorry to say but it is called: delegating to the right person to do the job and one he can trust

That was my thinking at first, but what concerns me is that he has been so consistent in saying the US has everything under control. If we have no issues here, nothing to respond to, why not keep command and also credit when the US comes out just fine. Couldn't he rely on advisors to inform him and make recommendations? Seems that way he could benefit from the input of the right people while still emerging as the hero at the helm. Nearing re-election, I would think if there's potential here to claim a victory more directly it would benefit him to do it. I'm not arguing that it isn't smart to appoint someone more qualified. I'm questioning whether he would do it if he didn't have something to lose if he kept command. It seems out of character.

he said:

“Of the 15 people … eight of them have returned to their homes, to stay at their homes until they’re fully recovered. One is in the hospital. And five have fully recovered. And one we think is in pretty good shape,” Trump said at the White House.

Watching his speech today I just thought, " he's got no idea " funny how we all interpret things differently.

To me,and i don't watch alot of US politics,I saw a man that was indecisive and a little on edge, throwing ever so subtle hints about China and numbers, then looking as if he feels he didn't say enough about it.

If that's the case, the virus being 125 nanometers than the n100 masks aren't much better. They also only filter down to 300 nanometers, just 99.7 percent as opposed to 95 percent for the n95.

Recommendations on a filter that will actually work?

Okdokey.

This is the same link that I put up the last time.

As Wang's study revealed, rates of infection differed between doctors and nurses with respirators and those without.

Specifically, the authors examined data collected from Jan. 2-22 at six departments within the Zhongnan Hospital. Within the 10-day period, the hospital treated 28 individuals with confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 58 "suspicious" cases. The medical staff in each department followed different safety protocols when treating the patients.

About 280 medical staff in the hospital's Respiratory, ICU and Infectious Diseases departments wore N95 respirators and washed their hands frequently, while about 215 in the departments of Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery, Trauma and Microsurgery, and Urology wore no masks and disinfected their hands less frequently. Although the respirator group encountered confirmed cases more often than the unmasked group — more than 730% more often -- no one in the respirator group became infected.

In comparison, 10 people in the unmasked group contracted the novel disease
, despite treating fewer infected patients.

The virus on its own is 125nm, that will pass through the mask. When sneezed out, coughed out or shat out, the virus will be connected to something that it's likely going to be bigger than 300nm which will not pass through the mask.

N95 masks will work so long as you know what you're doing.

Good point. As we have not seen Pence often, I take it as a good sign. But the seriousness of the situation required he out the VP in charge of something very important

Xi being absent when the virus started, looks suspicious. imo not for making a fall guy, but it looks like foreknowledge. Or at least, a very hasty departure when "something" started.

latest California coronavirus patient was hospitalized a week ago, but was not tested for virus as they did not fit the existing CDC criteria for COVID-19

CDC finally orders a test this week & it comes back positive

I’ve been to meetings.

On the one hand we’re getting pretty good doom porn from the CDC.

On the other hand we’re getting calm and reason from the administration.

I don’t know who is telling the truth and I don’t want to feed one side or reinforce the other.

Tell your boss to read this: www.abovetopsecret.com...
And I hadn't even done today's update yet.

UPDATE on lab problems: GOOD+BAD news. 📌GOOD: CDC plans to drop the problem reagent from the emergency diagnostic test, and get new #COVID19 tests out quickly. 📌BAD: Even if all public health labs get capacity, only ~100 tests/day limit by each lab

Currently on page 333 of part 3 of the thread. Was looking at federal contracts again regarding the coronavirus and ran across this one, posted since my last visit to the Beta Sam website:

SACRAMENTO
State
CALIFORNIA
...
Description of Requirement
THE ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE (ASPR)/THE DIVISION OF THE STRATEGIC NATIONAL STOCKPILE (SNS)HAS AN URGENT FOR TRANSPORTATION SERVICES SUPPORTING CORONAVIRUS

C.H. ROBINSON WORLDWIDE, INC.

Which led me here:

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

A new case of the novel coronavirus confirmed in Northern California is possibly the first instance in the U.S. of community spread, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday.

The Solano County patient “had no known exposure to the virus through travel or close contact with a known infected individual,” according to the California Department of Public Health. The patient is being treated in Sacramento County.

The patient is at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, according to a statement from the hospital. The statement was posted on behalf of UC Davis Medical Center Interim CEO Brad Simmons and UC Davis Health Vice Chancellor Dr. David Lubarsky.

According to the statement, the patient was transferred to the hospital on Feb. 19.

"When the patient arrived, the patient had already been intubated, was on a ventilator, and given droplet protection orders because of an undiagnosed and suspected viral condition," the statement said. "Since the patient arrived with a suspected viral infection, our care teams have been taking the proper infection prevention (contact droplet) precautions during the patient’s stay."

1st case of ‘community spread’ coronavirus being treated at UC Davis Medical Center

Apologies if this has been posted already, but I don't recall having read about this case of community spread of the virus rather than people repatriated from elsewhere or traveling from affected areas.

The article says that they were transferred to the hospital on the 19th of February, over a week ago.

The person mentioned in the above-;inked article could not have come into contact with anyone from the Diamond Princess, and must have contracted the virus from someone else.

Back to catching up on the thread.

Xi and Trumps call. Why wasn't it leaked by a Trump hater?
OK, I'll get real here. I heard what Trump said about having a good call with XI. He waded around the pond because the pond got deeper into this subject: Xi actually was in charge of the call. Donald listen. Xi TOLD him to follow China's example.
If in doubt, which of course just may be true and the reason I do say this with a gut feeling is that Japan has followed the same tone as China did. Now 3 weeks later we here are hearing about "quarantines" of cluster to cluster areas. I just want to say my above is "street talk". So far I've only had one.... and I did get a bit like wtf. What I wrote and been writing has been backed up even by members here. I personally don't know any member here that is affected personally. But in all honesty, today may just be the wife's final day in the education field. Hope its only a temp, but she won't have an income coming in. And this is why Trump has a legit reason to hold back and yet pump us up with "yes, it can go this way or even it can go that way" form of speech. But in reality, I saw the writing on the wall.
There is NO way possible in America with only 15 cases of the virus. And if you believe that and find out soon it was a miss statement well, hopefully you folks got your cupboards filled.
This sounds silly, but buy them plastic throw away gloves and wear them when you push a grocery cart. You'll also be seeing that in your near future and do it pumping your gas. How does MIM know, I see it in person here.

So far the big takeaway is to prepare.

Which is a message that most people won't get out of it. But for those of us reading the tea leaves, that postpones any panic buying we might have had to compete against in order to complete or top off our own preparations. "Glass half full", sort of thing.
