Thanks

Your are correct in looking at the others. I wrote to my bro who's a Genetic Scientist PhD at a University. Hes also the Department Chair and continues to lecture. He said to look at the surrounding country data also and what what the US does. In my opinion the Seattle newspaper began intentionally hiding and under reporting facts several days ago on the virus as one confirmed CDC case is a resident who entered Seattle airport and US customs. Look at the link and story to find anything about it. They hid it deep.

The Seattle Times

I link to the communist newspapers. For whatever its worth many FAKE news stories are being published there including several that infected patients were cured. However based on daily stories about President Xi Jinping General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, hes freaking out so what does that tell you.

I also read Pravda. Their spin on all is to NOT trust what the World Heath Organization [WHO] says because they simply move at the pace of a snail when it comes to these types of outbreaks. Pravda warned russian's days ago to wash hands with a mixture of bleach and stay away from large gatherings of people.

Yeah you are right. I didn’t even think of checking Russia till I just read your post. They are up to 7!supposedly. It’s weird, a lot of news outlets are going straight to doom porn then you have just as many obviously downplaying it all. It’s really hard to keep accurate tally’s.

And I have no friggin idea what WHO is doing. The infection rate will surpass SARS in an eighth of the time. Like one month vs 8.

Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding Went on a 8 tweet spree on Saturday releasing info on the RO numbers.

disrn.com...

“ We are now faced with the most virulent virus 🦠 epidemic the world has ever seen. An R0=3.8 means that it exceeds SARS's modest 0.49 viral attack rate by 7.75x — almost 8 fold! A virus that spreads 8 faster than SARS cannot be stopped by containment alone. A 99% quarantine lockdown containment of Wuhan will not even reduce the epidemic's spread by even 1/3rd in the next 2 weeks.”

The scary part? We know that China has lowballed the data.

I’ve been following this daily since December. Just a heads up... I think by then end of this week it’s going to get very real for everyone.

This is going to sound foolish but the media needs new viewers as the impeachment process has not grabbed the attention of the United States as much as they had hoped. Revenues are down so this is a great opportunity for the media to really to focus on this in hopes of getting a captivated audience which equals more dollars.

Spanish Flu was just the flu too, but it killed plenty.

However, panic isn't going to help anyone and will only make things worse.

Your best bet is to avoid it as best you can. Take the same steps you would to avoid regular cold or flu only stepped up quite because you're playing some odds more than usual now. If you are young and healthy, your own immune system can be your worst enemy, so that adds a new dimension to those usually at risk.

And now for the rest of the story...
Specialists all over the world are stating how factually incorrect all this person's information is.
Why do folks believe just anyone at face value ?
Never fact checking , just blind belief..
It is like the "As Seen on TV" stuff.

Local news will be more trustworthy on things in the US, IMO. They usually have a track record on letting things through that national news ignores.

To me, the seriousness of this is underscored by the way the national press has handled it.

You have China on lockdown and instead of screaming about the next pandemic like they did with SARS and bird flu (which never even touched the human population), they're all doing polite "well, would you look at that" type pieces. They are reporting on what we know, but the tone is markedly different.

I still say we're waiting to see on our domestic cases and known US victims could be doing well for all we know. With a mortality rate of 3 to 4%, the odds are going to be in their favor at only 3 known cases now. But our doctors will have critical learning from it.

This is the same Harvard which predicted the end of the world due to global warming inside 10 years.

The same Harvard which championed the allegations of the president being mentally unfit to serve.

The same Harvard which has prognosticated about countless doom porn themes in the past, only to find they turn out to be nothing.

Anymore, when Harvard issues some doom proclamation I just flip on CNN so I can get a laugh watching all the talking heads crowing about it with veins popping out of their foreheads!

Doesn't mean I wouldn't be super cautious about catching this if it came to your neck of the woods.

1. It'll knock you on your butt.

2. It has a better than usual chance of killing you in the bargain.

So in one side we have an epidemiologist from Harvard telling us we're pretty much f#ck up and in the other side we have some anonymous members with no credentials here saying it's all BS.

I'm reading and prepping.

My point was, just because 'Harvard' **raises pinky finger in a snobbish way** says it, doesn't mean it's time to start reading the world their last rites.

Yes, concern is warranted. No argument there. Here's what's weird though...

I work in aviation, and for the past 2-3 months (i.e. long before the Wu-flu stories broke), I've noticed a significant uptick in Asian travelers wearing face masks! This, to the point where I seldom see an Asian person without one at an airport. And all of this was happening before the whole Wu-flu thing. I wonder why that is?

As for the flu, I had it earlier this year and it was indeed BAD! I mean it literally stomped my puny ass into a mud puddle!! I was laid out worse than I've ever been with the flu! Consequently, I want no part of this thing as my immune system is probably still degraded from that episode.

I agree on local news but NOT The Seattle Times local news.

China would not be locking down millions if this was just Chicken Sheet. Russia has been telling their people to take it seriously and in USA it appears to me that much of what is published is under reported or out right ignored.

Who's saying it's all BS?

I'm saying it's not armageddon. It's about like Spanish. Spanish was *not* armageddon. Most people who got it ... lived. Yes, it killed a tragic number of people, and so will this. But people here are panicking like ebola went airborne which really would be armageddon.

This will be scary. This will be bad, but most of us will survive it unless we're being lied to about the 3 to 4% mortality rate.

Do you know what will make that number go up without any effort on the part of the illness? If we all panic and stop trying to carry on ... that's when sick people who might have survived die of neglect. That's when other disasters crop up because we're busy running around screaming "Repent! The End is Nigh!" instead of preparing ourselves as best we can.

They were wearing masks for a different reason, the polutioned air.

Now they're forced to wear masks in China not to protect them, but to prevent spreading from contaminated people when they cough or sneeze.

Keep an open mind. [known as the virus’s reproduction number]

Scientists Predict Wuhan's Outbreak Will Get Much Worse

One big uncertainty: how infectious is 2019-nCoV, really? Read’s models estimate that the number of people one victim can infect—known as the virus’s reproduction number—is between 3.6 and 4.0. SARS, by comparison, was between a 2 and a 5, and measles, the most contagious disease known to humans, is a whopping 12 to 18. The higher the number, the less wiggle room public health officials have to break the chain of new transmissions before an outbreak gets out of control. Anything above 1 is bad from a containment perspective.

Doom porn. The virus is less lethal than Sars, seems to be less transmissible than Sars and there is no evidence to suggest that it persists in the environment more than Sars. The only problem is that it started in a metropolitan area rather than a rural one.

The crackdown on travel should confine it and make it easier to mitigate.
Good post to revisit in a couple of weeks.

Better print it out if you want to revisit it.

Jk.
