Nice setup you have going.

I would highly recommend adding a good OTC anti diarrhea medicine as well as part of ANY kit as dehydration will kill you faster than most things (a good water filter is also a good idea)

Thank you for the advice. I have many different water filters from my camping equipment. Lifestraws are the best thing to have in case you run out of everything else.

My basic plan is to shelter in place for 60 days minimum if this hits my local population. I was prepared for 30 days, but based on recent data, I have now doubled my duration.

Boredom will be another major factor in self isolation, so I have went ahead and downloaded multiple shows to my tablet as well. Cabin fever will get to everyone eventually. I am blessed to have a treadmill and full weightlifting gym in my basement.

I have this but not as much tuna. Lol. Some nasty farts for you soon. Lol.

I do have lots of beans, tuna, sardines, I grow plenty of fruits in my backyard. Resupplied on ammo.

Looks like it might work better than my P100 respirator. Where can I get one?

I'm not prepared at all. Atleast not in the sense of making preperations to 'maybe' survive. Years back I was also in prepping for the worst, but these days I don't care, tbh. I also think it's kinda useless. I mean, if this becomes a worldwide mass die-off, the chances are very, very slim you might make it, even with massive preperations. Besides that, would you even want to survive that? Chances are, most of your loved ones didn't.

Personally, I'm 'prepared' for the worst, incl. death.

Im not going hog wild or anything most of my stuff I'll use eventually anyway. One thing I did get way back when was taking care of my dad(RIP) during his chemo days and we were freaking about him getting sick. I got a heavy-duty UV light with timer covers 400 square feet. Basically knocks down all kinds of germs and viruses that may make this stuff worse if you get it on top of something else. And it works on water too, kills pathogens, Just be careful with exposing yourself to it too long, wear sunglasses and don't look at it directly treat it like a welders torch. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS... it will burn your eyes and turn it on leave the room and let it ventilate.

Got powdered milk, eggs, dehydrated veggies, cabbage, onions loads of rice and canned goods. We would be okay for 4-6 weeks.

LOL Sound like the guy in the movie The Mist... where everything so bleak at the end and there is no hope.

I got people I'm responsible for LOL and they might not have the fatalistic approach. I've learned when you get snowed in with kids you had better have some basic preparedness or it can turn into a Here's Johnny time LOL. By no means do I think it will get too bad here but most of my stuff Id use eventually anyway. Plus wanted to try out some powdered eggs and dehydrated vegetables for a diet Ive been on.They actually work pretty well I was shocked.

It's not about seeing it all as completely hopeless/bleak/etc. It's about the simple fact that I simply do not care much for this 'short' existence. It's not like I want to die, it's just that death isn't something to worry about to me personally.

Lol not too worried about dying either however considering at the very least time in this realm is finite, and the next stage is likely for infinity. Got a few more things on this side of railroad tracks I'd like to do before I catch the hellbound train, stairway to heaven or just become worm food.

What i have not seen covered in these threads are any preparations for at-home medical care
In the case Hospitals are jammed full
besides acetaminophen and ibuprofine to control fever
an Oxygen concentrator is a must in cases of Pneumonia
the leading cause of death with this illness.

17% of cases are severe enough to require hospitalization
IF there is a surge there simply wont be enough space.

I'm not even going to get into the number of est dead IF this affects 60% of the worlds population at 2.4% mortality as projected
truly fear mongering

From another thread, but should be added:

WASH YOUR HANDS ALOT
Be mindful of what you touch to wipe down after entering your vehicle
hands,phones,keys,bank cards,vehicle handles and controls
Do NOT touch your face with your hands when out period, unless freshly washed
Avoid cash
No take out or convenience food or drive through, eat and prepare food at home
No handshaking, hugging or kissing with at risk persons
shoes off at door
Wash your clothes,high heat
Wipe down areas of hand contact in-home daily
Shower

Avoid tight public spaces, bathrooms and large gatherings.
if you have to use public transportation, i would recommend using a mask, eye protection, tight space
try to avoid it all together.
Don't smoke,for obvious reasons

Have wipes or disinfectant solution for guests or family members to wipe hand outside BEFORE entering household

when/if your sick or the outbreak starts to bloom(get worse) it will be obvious, more controls will be required
Don a mask, disposable gloves, and eye protection when out
wipe down, undress before entering household, shoes off at door, mask off last
preferable no going out.
No visitors,no in-person socializing

If the situation arises where you feel like your getting sick,Do NOT immediately go to the hospital
FIRST make a CALL to a nurse or another medical professional who will do a quick assessment and provide directions.
Notify your employer, family and close friends right away.
Self-quarantine,mask,gloves,no physical contact with others,no visitors, don't go out unless it is an emergency or you if you have pre-arranged appointment with a doctor.

We are not there yet and hopefully won't be
I'm holding out hope the changing of seasons will stay it's spread or better kill it
As always, stay healthy.

Flip flopped more than a few times about the severity of the outbreak
Short of a vaccine, looks like this thing is unstoppable
Thinking the social economical fallout may be worse than the virus it's self.
Went to the mall as i felt safe to do so,zero concern was noted
purchased a few 'supplies' to safeguard my own and mine.
Completely on the fence where this may go
Hoping the fear and panic will be kept to a minimum
Effects mild and cases low
Be good,Stay healthy
Human out

Pro tip: Straight blade razor with strop that will always provide a good shave when no more disposable razors are left and not to rely on electrical ones. Will be paramount to ensure good mask fit on your face. Learn to sharpen it and use it now! takes time to master

I want to keep this thread alive! I think it is going to become more important as time goes on. Let's get good info, less snarky responses.

The important factors:

Water
Food
Shelter
Protection

Those are a must. Everything else is secondary.

Agreed! I've changed my tune about prepping. I'm in full activated mode now, mostly for my family, but still.

Great list! Thank you for sharing the wisdom of your medical experience

At the top of our med bag are two rechargeable headlamps. Underneath that are six packs of Celox, an emergency trauma clotting agent. The headlamps are far more useful than people often realize, even in "normal" times.

I am a huge fan of alcohol swabs and wet-wipes. They just seem to do so much work for their size.

Something that is frequently forgotten is a source of making fire, simple fire. Never forget strike-anywhere matches. This is old-school stuff, I know, but it belongs in your Pandemic Prep Bag.

And silly me, I've never packed a med bag, BOB or any emergency response bag without the inclusion of a roll of duct tape, just because. It's like a sharp pocket knife. You know you will use it somewhere eventually.

Something nobody is talking about here is the cost of prepping. I mean, if you have a family, just the cost of the water you'd need isn't pocket change. Add in food, medical supplies, etc., and some people simply can't afford to really prep for anything longer than a week or two.

This is very true, and it is the main reason I bought a little bit every week since early January. My final total is pushing $4,000. I am prepared for about 3-4 months of isolation at home comfortably. I could stretch this to 6 months if I cut calories down to bare minimums. You may say that 6 months is crazy talk, but this virus is designed for 3 cycles through the human race. We are still in the first cycle worldwide, and people can be reinfected with the 1st cycle more than once.
