How come it's just one more serious epidemic originating from China? Why not India full of slums. That would make more sense to me. It looks to me that someone is testing something, trying to inject certain things with a vaccine or simply doing it for his own amusement.

You have heard about the gangs using drones to infect the pigs, haven't you.

Only one lab in China can safely handle the new coronavirus:

www.livescience.com...

And it just happens to be in Wuhan.

Is this the reason for the quarantine? Did it escape the lab and they're covering it up?

Can anyone suggest any good websites that are quick on the updates?

I normally use twitter, but the #coronavirus #wuhan etc all seem to be throttled. I need to go looking at specific accounts to see updates.

NHK news in English might help you out.

China National Health Commission (NHC):

Epidemic situation of new coronavirus infection on January 22, 2020 (You'll have to translate from Chinese)

Translated:
Caixin: Although the notice was issued at 2 am, there was still an eight-hour window to the beginning of the city closure at 10 am. Some citizens and foreign tourists stranded in Wuhan chose to leave the city overnight. Some local doctors estimate that the number of infected people may eventually exceed 6,000, and Wuhan City has prepared 5,400 beds for patients.

A livestream from one of Wuhan's main stations is counting down to the travel ban, showing people trying (and failing) to get in.

Chinese have classified it as a class B virus but are enacting protocols for a class A virus, which is reserved for more deadly diseases. Why?

That, plus the quarantine, has me suspicious it's worse than they're letting on.

You'd think. Authoritive regimes like China wouldn't act unless they had too. I think they have realized they waited too long already. The long incubation time probably caught them reacting slowly.

The scary part is; imagine a Flight from Wuhan takes probably 8 or more hours to some destinations. Passengers on flights with an Infected person are ticking timebombs with a 14 day incubation period.

Only if that person is shedding virus, and we still don't know for sure just how readily transmissible person to person it is. They know it can and does spread person to person, but not everything spreads as readily as the common cold or flu. We just don't know.

Quarantining a city of 11 million people? How the hell does that work?

Totalitarian communist government.

Makes everything easier when you don't have to worry about pesky things like rights.

Yeah, China will come down on you like a ton of bricks if you say a word in opposition to them.

I know the stand and world war Z are fiction books.

I have read the later many times (one of my favorites) and just got done listening (have read it before) the unabridged audio book of the first.

but both while different disease types and what scares the crap out of me is how accurate the government reactions are.

if one just looks at that portions of both and how even the early stages of how this new virus is being reacted to the comparisons are almost identical (and frightnening).

denial, hap hazard initial actions, the media lack of information and how badly / slow/ too late the actions (from screening to quarantine, ) is...

It may be nothing but again look at the outcome of those two stories went.
