Cranky, I believe the problem is two-fold. From a practical standpoint, we can't be sure of anything except that draconian measures are being taken by the Chinese government. How many -really- sick, hospitalization rate, deaths from the pandemic -- who knows. All the current numbers indicate is the capacity of the Chinese government to test individuals for the presence of the disease, and who knows if those tests are reliably accurate.

From an information warfare aspect, this lack of solid information will play into the hands of the DS, who can have their handmaidens in the media spin it any way they want.

My sense is the "authorities" are playing a control game because they fear that baldly stating what is going on could trigger social disruption. And not just the authorities in China or USA -- pretty much all over. Are there -any- governments speaking plainly about this thing? Not to my knowledge.

They'll control until they can't; or, as you posit, the crisis turns out to have been exaggerated.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and several of his governors today. They discussed opportunities to expand green technology and economic development.
Brown signed an agreement with American and Chinese officials to partner in developing economic opportunities that advance renewable energy and clean technologies.

"It is with great pride that I join my American colleagues and new Chinese counterparts in signing this accord," Brown said to Xi. "Environmental stewardship and economic development need not be mutually exclusive. I am pleased that, working together, we will be able to advance this ideal to the benefit of all."

American governors Jerry Brown (D-California), Rick Snyder (R-Michigan) and Terry Branstad (R-Iowa) also signed the pact.

Brown's predecessor, former Gov. John Kitzhaber, made similar trips to Asia in 2011 and 2012. In 2012, he visited Shanghai, Hong Kong and Tokyo to promote Oregon agricultural products, green technology and tourism.

I can 100% confirm no one liked Kitzhaber and no one likes Brown (outside of the Portland-Salem-Eugene areas). Kitzhaber was full of scandals, and brown is full of s**t.

American Pacific International Capital, Inc., an international investment holding company, has sold the KOIN Center, a 35-story mixed-use tower in downtown Portland for $88 million, about five years after picking it up in a foreclosure for approximately $53 million.

Portland-based ScanlanKemperBard Cos., one of the largest real estate merchant banking firms in the Western United States, acquired the Class A trophy property located at 222 W. Columbia St. KOIN Center has approximately 355,000 rental square feet, which includes retail and restaurant space, offices and luxury residential units on the upper 11 floors. SKB bought the office portion of the property, which is reportedly about 253,000 square feet. The building’s tenants include the KOIN television station, Skanska, Wells Fargo Advisors and Schnitzer Steel Industries.

Clayton Jew and David Wientjes, who are both first vice presidents in the San Francisco office of Kidder Mathews, represented the seller. They described the purchase as a “rare opportunity to acquire one of Portland’s more desirable assets.”

APIC moved its offices last year from Portland to San Francisco, where it is focusing on hotels, retail and residential properties, according to the Portland Business Journal. The firm, which owns businesses in the U.S. and China, acquired the KOIN Center in December 2009 for about $53 million.

Pompeo in his speech yesterday did specifically call out Portland, Oregon in regards to the Chinese list. Current & previous Oregon governors are heavily controlled and corrupted by the 'Silicon forest' along the I-5 corridor which they all have deep $$$ connections in China. I worked under one of those big super high tech VP's with strong connections to China for years. That was back when I was blinded to most of what was going on. Then years later when Q specifically called out that person and I started connecting some dots my eyeballs nearly popped outta my skull. That person is now a tech telecomm security Advisor to Pres Trump. WTF?!

Well they didn't kill themselves and the Apotex factory in my country is closing I just found out here (Dutch). That produced patent free generic drugs, doubling the medicine shortage and moving production possibly to India and China. We'll be totally dependent because of this for millions people just here, Aurobindo deemed it not feasible to continue production after aquisition. Although we're short on some basic meds for months at a time.
