I'm guessing this space force wont be made in China?

at those numbers (12k)the cost for the satellite bus is going to be under 100k each. (Gwen Shotwell said cost of each satellite is already well below 1 million each including getting into orbit).

Before the end of January, SpaceX aims to perform four Falcon 9 launches from Florida’s Space Coast — three for the company’s Starlink broadband network, and a crucial in-flight abort test for the Crew Dragon spacecraft no earlier than Jan. 11.

spaceflightnow.com...

SpaceX is planning on having 2x launches a month for Starlink starting in January (each with 60 sats), apparently the only thing holding them back is 2nd stages, and that has more to do with fairings than the stage itself hence their push to recover and re-use fairings. Shotwell said something along the lines of having 39 launches this coming year with 2nd stage production being the bottleneck, and that puts it on par with the entirety of China's launches.

Now to put this all in context with China, and it's economic state. China has ceased imports of European industrial goods and machinery. In the past they used the profits from trade with the US to buy machine tools from the EU. Beyond that there is actually a population issue in China. It isn't an over population problem, but a population structure problem. Turns out that the one child policy has absolutely wrecked the age distribution, and caused the culling of females to this day. This leaves a lot of young males in China without a counterpart to maintain the population in order to support the ageing population of China. This means societal unrest, and it is coming to a head very very soon.
Between an implosion of the housing market that has been propping up their economy through constant construction, millions of empty buildings and ghost cities, and unmarried men there is a powder keg ready to be set off.

A star for you. That has to be one of the funniest intros ever written on a thread

Obama looked at his flat tire and said a magic wand was needed to fix it. Maintenance is a four letter word hey Barry?

Trump rolled up his sleeves and changed the damn tyre.

Then some fruit vendors proceeded to throw their wares at him, but I digress.

A lot of US foreign policy has been bad, but I will support them anytime, anywhere when it comes to one-upping that anthill in the east.

It is going to be made in Hawthorn, CA; Redmond, WA; Coca Beach, FL; and Boca Chita, TX. As far as I am aware, SpaceX has been trying to vertically integrate everything made as much as possible.

Blue Origin on the other hand has yet to launch a commercial payload, however they have been developing an engine (BE4) for both their own rockets, and the Vulcan Booster for United Launch Alliance. Blue Origin has been much more tight lipped about it's advances so there is a lot more speculation in relation to it. They have facilities in Kent, WA; and Huntsville, AL; and Cape Canaveral, FL.

You’re right I just looked she said Stanley Morgan over estimated the cost per satellite . It’s under $500,000 right now. It could go as low as 250,000 each excluding the electronics package . Your link said 14 to 15 launches in 2020 . That’s around the thousands satellites which is right on schedule .

“I think in 2020 we’ll do more, and that’s because of Starlink,” she said in a roundtable discussion with reporters earlier this month. “I think we will have 14 or 15 non-Starlink launches, and then we’ll fly Starlink as often as we can.

“I need second stages to be built a little bit faster, but we would probably shoot for 35 to 38 missions next year,” Shotwell said.

Regardless of what happens in China. They’re going to be sucking hind tit anyway .

When the system gets up and running it’s going to be like the 1980s again . At that time we had the edge in space technology .

Not a lot of people are interested when the subject is brought up here.

I wonder if they realize that starlink is going to change the world as we know it .

This post didn’t make sense at all sorry. I didn’t check to see if my smart phone was really smart enough to edit itself but I digress.

So, I’m sure ATS has spoken of the great uncle Trump? How he worked in the world of physics and Tesla’s work was in his hands after Tesla’s death but I’m sure he didn’t read them.

John George Trump (August 21, 1907 – February 21, 1985) was an American electrical engineer, inventor, and physicist. A professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1936 to 1973, he was a recipient of U.S. President Ronald Reagan's National Medal of Science and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.[3][4][5] John Trump was noted for developing rotational radiation therapy.[3] Together with Robert J. Van de Graaff, he developed one of the first million-volt X-ray generators. He was the paternal uncle of Donald Trump, who would later go on to become the 45th president of the United States.

For those who haven’t heard it’s a great rabbit hole to dive into. www.google.com...

Three weeks after the Serbian-American inventor’s death, an electrical engineer from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was tasked with evaluating his papers to determine whether they contained “any ideas of significant value.” According to the declassified files, Dr. John G. Trump reported that his analysis showed Tesla’s efforts to be “primarily of a speculative, philosophical and promotional character” and said the papers did “not include new sound, workable principles or methods for realizing such results

Hmmm, while China is aggressively expanding it's own territory, a little like the coal minder calling the chimney sweep dirty.
Or as we say up north the pot calling the kettle black.

A certain economic premise leading up to WW2 in Europe, was the German vision of Autarky, or self-reliance.
en.wikipedia.org...

The idea was that if German had continued to trade industrial goods for food, eventually technology transfer would insure the less developed agrarian cultures gain the means for their own industrial needs. That would leave urbanized Germany without anything to trade for food.

It seems a bit like China, adopting high tech, but reliant on imports for food. I'm sure there's a cautionary tale to learn.
Mostly, it would be bad for China's tech to become outdated, or even banned like Huawei. That would leave them empty-handed.

I can not help myself over the thought that the guy in the video is mixing up a lot of things and engages in his own circular logic.

For example he says Hitler started the war because of hunger (what?) to get the resources to be autark and prepared for the next war. He calls that circular logic, I agree, it is circular logic from the guy, not Hitler.

Because then he even goes further and says Germany had never started a war after WW2 and did not starve so food was never a problem, trying to disproof the made up circular logic before.

He goes on and on and I cant help myself this guy is running in circles. Admittedly I did not watch the whole video, just could not stand that twisted logic. He ignores so many factors pre, mid and post war I just can not take this self proclaimed strategic expert serious.

Right, I too disagree on quite a few point's but Germany DID starve after Word War One due to the massive reparations imposed on it by the winning powers and the fact that the food blockade which had been imposed on Germany during WW1 remained in place for some time after the end of hostility's.

Hitler is said to have seen how WEALTHY Jewish family's had excess while the rest of the German population were starving during this time as well BUT no mention was made of how well off Wealthy NON Jewish German's were at this time so his obvious bias against the German Jews is all too clear despite the fact that most of those German Jews were also poor and also starving though they did at least have there community to fall back on to some extent.

He later used this to stir up hatred of the Jews but go and have a look at any German WW1 cemetery or at least surviving records of German casualty's in WW1 and you will find a great many working class Jewish German's among the rank's of the fallen of that nation and also many of the German Jews were decorated for there service during WW1 but acknowledging this fact would have gone against Hitler's maniacal hatred of the Jews - and the fact that he had to steal everything they had to maintain the German war machine and state expenditure his party had incurred or else he would actually have bankrupted Germany despite it's astonishing period of recovery just prior to the NAZI election win, some of those expenses he had incurred on the state and needed the Jews and then the Czech and Austrian and Polish wealth to pay for were the massive building and public work's schemes he had created to employ the many unemployed German's whom were still poor and destitute and whose vote had gotten him into power on the promise that he would give them work, also running that vast propaganda machine was not cheap, this hatred of other's including the Jews whom he had stripped of all right's in order to steal everything they owned was used to justify the crime's his regime implemented against them and other's.

But by 1919 and through the early 1920's, during the same period the US was suffering it's depression people in Germany were actually boiling up shoes to try to eat the leather they were that hungry.
www.gingkoedizioni.it...

There is some Propaganda heavy material online that tried to blame Britain for this but the reality is far more complex.

The truth about Hitler and his regime can be summed up in a brief and quick few paragraphs.

Hitler was evil of that there is no doubt, he murdered his Nieces boyfriend, Murdered a Jewish Comedian whom had joked about him, Molested his own niece whom later committed suicide to escape from him, liked woman to pee on his face according to TOP SECRET - not propaganda material - Psychological profiling of him made by the allies so that they could try to think like him to guess his next move - it was very successful so the analysis was probably bang on.

The NAZI's were coalition of the disaffected that Hitler managed to swindle his way into command of and later after they managed to win an election there was a bloody purge of those element's (within the winning NAZI coalition) including other's that were nearly as powerful as him in that movement to consolidate power into his hand's and secure his position in charge allowing him to do thing's they would never have allowed.

Hitler used the suffering imposed on the German's after WW1 to stir up hatred of the Jews, stole from the poor and rich alike everything they had and then became a mass murderer not only of Germany's Jews but of all Jews he could get his hand's on (metaphorical he gave the orders and was well aware of the cruelty of his regimes action's), also he murdered all the Romany he could get his hand's on these people had been seasonal agricultural workers whom lived a semi nomadic life but he left most of them in Romania alone since he was convinced the Romanians were a less evolved offshoot of his mythical German master race, he murdered all political rival's including in his own party and any and all communists that he could, he planned to wipe out each and every last member of the Slavic Race except those that were to be used as Slaves for the German's whom were to be there master race and then to turn Poland into a giant forest for hunting and training young German's to be strong and as part of this crack pot scheme even had his people trying to recreate the extinct ice age wild cattle that once roamed much of Europe for them to hunt.

He believed for a nation to remain strong that it had to remain in a state of perpetual war and that this along with national service would allow the honing and weeding of the young of his nation into a militaristic super race so he intended to leave some less developed parts of the world to be used in this manner.

His regime used Narcotic's, what is today called Crystal Meth or for them was called Pervatin to make them fight with no conscience and when other soldiers would have collapsed from exhaustion.

He himself was an addict to drug's, his doctor was a Jewish Doctor (whom had been one of the greatest doctors in Germany prior to this) whom was in fear of his life but because he was Hitler's personal physician he and his family were safe as long as the Fuhrer (as they called there despotic crack pot little man with a huge ego dictator) was alive and well.

As for the crimes of Germany during WW2, we all know that they were one of the most evil regimes in history, perhaps even THE most evil regime in history at least since the time of Nero.

And Today we have a whole host of crack pot's such as Holocaust Deniers, Hitler worshipers wanting to rewrite history and even misguided sheep that believe the lies they tell as well as just sick and twisted people that believe what he did but like it because they are evil in there own heart's.

The truth was clearest when it was Fresh, when the US, Russian, British and Free French and Polish Soldiers stumbled onto the concentration camp's with bag's full of woman's hair for making into wig's for the German's, walking stick's personal possession's, mountainous piles of spectacles and even false limb's, not to mention gold filling's taken from the victim's of the NAZI's.
Not to also mention Jew Skin lampshades, wallet's and a certain German woman who liked Tattoos so would have them peeled off the still living victim's to preserve the tattoo against damage and another German woman a concentration camp guard that used to set her hungry dog's onto the starving children in the camp allowing them to feed themselves by eating those kid's.
There are few regime's that have trawled the depth's of human depravity and allowed it to rise up so high except the likes of Pol Pot's regime which despite killing millions does not even come near to the mass murders of Hitlers regime.

I dont actually like Trumps declaration about the Space Force.

It's about to kick off a pretty serious arms race.

It was inevitable and other nations are starting to catch the USA's celestial defence capabilities in some arena's.. so I understand why but... it should have been approached with more tact and a softer touch.

but behind the scenes - the US needs to win that arms race convincingly

On the plus side eventually some of the new technology (probably very old technology but it will be brought into the light very slowly) will actually filter down to the public domain, also the much needed boost for the Aerospace industry not only in the US but the west in General if the US is serious and actually spends big on this will create thousands and thousands of job's in the part's supply chain as well as boosting science spending and creating research job's for qualified personnel perhaps even taking back the lead in these areas the west has been slowly loosing to Asia for decades now.
On the downside it's not for the good of humanity - or is it do you really want to allow Communist China to rule space, colonize the moon and mars and get there first in the future while the west becomes the worlds' new third world.

I agree and much of your post has good information, good writing

Just disagree with that youtuber about how he builds up his arguments only on this single factor.

And contrary to what most foreigners think, it was not a common knowledge what happened with Jews, Gypsies and all the other groups. Many do not know that even when it was known and someone spoke up against it you had people that would snitch you out and either get you shot on place or sent to the concentration camp.

The thought that every German fully supported all this in the know of the concentration camps is not accurate, too. It was not like today, there was no internet, no digital cameras, no mobile phones.

They only had the state controlled newspaper and people were living rural.
