I agree with you to a certain extent here, only becsuse this is a human thing. A lot of humans need to worship something, be it God, devil, science etc But at least there is truth in science, something we most of the times can measure.
Was it religon thatccured a lot of diseases, told us how planets, suns and galaxies formed. Told us about atoms and particles? No, it was science.

It doesn't make sense God would order the murder of innocent people, because of everything ELSE said in the Bible about murder. When there is a conflict like that, I question the validity of it. God would not want to murder innocent people, and that's why God would not act so opposite his own wishes. That's totally hypocritical, and absurd. It was humans who put that into the Bible, I believe. Otherwise, it makes no sense.

Why would you think God would desire to murder innocent people, while consistently saying that nobody should ever kill another human, throughout most of the Bible? It doesn't make sense, right?

So if it doesn't make sense, then there has to be another reason it's in the Bible. Which is that humans tampered with the Bible, and put it in.
