“Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.”
or

“When a man deceives me once, it is his fault; when twice, it is mine.”

-George Horne wrote in the 18th century.

The proverb still applies and always will, albeit many have forgotten it, simple as it is. The basic meaning is that you can't blame others if you are fooled or deceived or lied to multiple times by the same person. For a sane person once is enough to realize that the other person does not mean you well. A fool, however, will fall for the same mistake over and over again.

In 993 days, President Trump has made 13,435 false or misleading claims

The Washington Post has a department whose sole duty is to keep track of the statements and claims that come out of the White House, fact checks them and keeps track of the total. For anyone who wants to check the statistics, verify if they are true or not or to even debunk the WaPo claims with your own set of facts, follow the link.

13,435 lies in 993 days averages out to a bit over 13.5 lies per day. But that does not matter, as the proverb says. A sane person knows when someone deceives them and does not allow them to do it again. And again. And again. So what point am I trying to make?

The president can't be blamed. He is who he is. It's worked for him his whole life. But the proverb still applies. Fool me once, shame on him. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Fool me 13,435 times?

That is no longer the president's fault and we need to stop treating it that way. It's the fault of the fools that allow themselves to be fooled over and over and over and over, while we all watch incredulously from the sidelines.

The irony of you being the first reply is too precious. Your account name and the topic subject.

Thank you for that.

So.....you’re saying we should abolish the Democrat Party? I couldn’t agree more.

Ok, I'll do the most repeated claim.

“The wall is moving rapidly. Large sections are being built every day. More contracts are being given out.”

Then Wapo gives him a lie with this reasoning.

All told, Congress has funded about 175 miles of barriers. Trump has also tapped a Treasury Department asset forfeiture fund to build 30 miles and unused Pentagon funding to fund 53 miles. That adds up to a little under 260 miles, which Trump-speak often gets translated to 400 miles. Replacing dilapidated vehicle barriers and weathered fencing with newer, sturdier stuff is the kind of routine government business that predated Trump.

So Wapo themselves prove Trump didn't lie. Hell, if anything Wapo is being dishonest redefining things to push a story. I bolded an example in the quote above.

It's almost like it's a Monday through Friday gig.

Just a coincidence, surely.

Only fooled me once. He didn't get my vote the second time... What bothers me is how many stayed fooled. Enough to get elected.

Did they run the same facts checker for Obama? We also know that all facts check orgs have been very liberal biased. It has been proven when a liberal politician says something they can get a mostly true to mixture rating, and a conservative politician says the same thing they get a mostly false to false rating. In this case with Trump they can be very subjective in calling something a lie....

here is an example

204 times he said "the U.S. economy has never been stronger"... Who cares they fact check to suggest it has a few times in our past...

The irony of you having only been here since September and initially introducing yourself as a centrist is even more precious.
