It sure seems some are starting to think so.

“The America that they believed in was under attack, not from without, but from within,” Adm. William H. McRaven, who led the U.S. Special Operations Command before retiring

Are we going to see a wave of conservatives, a wave of military, a wave of independents leave camp Trump?
Many in the military have revered General Mattis, even idolized, even worshiped him. He left but now there is a war of words
between the General and Trump. How will this sway the military as a whole? My guess, not in Trumps favor.

There are many posts on the Kurds and Syria, so I'm not going to get into the details, but was this the straw that broke the conservatives back?
Even if you are OK with Trump leaving the Kurd's to be slaughtered, there was something very un-American about his comments of "They’ve got a lot of sand over there, so there’s a lot of sand that they can play with.”

The House voted 354-60 for a nonbinding resolution opposing Trump's withdrawal of support to the Syrian Kurds. Every Democrat present voted yes, as did two-thirds of the Republicans, including all of Long Island's House members.

Not one Trump supporter I know is turning away from him. In fact I heard some guys at work the other day say they were likely to vote for him this time because the Dems don't have anyone worth anything running and they do not want to see actual socialism take hold in our country.

Things have gone too well economically over the last few years to let anyone on the Left reverse it. That's not to say we don't like some of the things he's done and said, but never underestimate the end game with him. It's not about short-term wins, it's about long-term success.

Whats with the military love angle? The CINC is a civilian for a reason. And as a vet, No, he is not destroying the Republic. If anything the POS General s who have been running the military into the ground in order to pad their resume's ought to be bitch slapped instead of praised.

Trump explained very well why he was pulling troops out of Syria. It was for his concern of his own troops. Trump absolutely respects the military and I can’t see him losing too much support over this issue from the military.

Wasn’t one of his campaign promises to pull troops out of ME ?

He also managed to arrange a cease fire ( far more important than combating troops)shortly after... that saved thousands of lives. Now that’s winning !! I’m starting to think Trump’s biggest asset is his ability to handle tough negotiations. He has seemingly done more in many regards than presidents of the past.

Personally I think he’s doing fine in making some difficult choices. I do really think he cares about the lives of US soldiers much more than previous presidents.

He should be nominated for the Nobel Peace prize in my opinion.

I have said a few times, I don't know enough about the Syria situation to offer an opinion. I'll continue to listen to both sides and hopefully find enough facts to know more about it at some point. One thing I do know, is that when Obama was president, they tried several times to get the US into a conflict with Syria. False Flag gas attacks, and some lies that fell apart quickly. So the entire thing seems a bit suspect to my dumb ass.

It seems Trump pissed off a bunch of folks with his move on that. I can't believe he would have all the information we don't have, all the advice we don't have, and make a completely wrong decision. Not that he's infallible, just that he seems logical in his moves, and this would not be logical at all. So the best I can do is hold out hope he has a plan and this will work out favorably somehow.

If Syria has some strategical advantage that places it's takeover in high esteem, I think those who know why, should just come out and explain why. Oil, pipeline, location, resources, whatever they have that we need so badly, lay it out. Then we can all understand the real reason this is so important.

I did hear one thing that kind of resonated with me. If the US offers something and gives a hand shake to seal the deal, that hand shake had better be worth something. This seems to lessen or cheapen our credibility, so on that aspect, it seems like a mistake, or could have been dealt with better. But I'll wait to find out the facts before the lynching.

JAG, no. The country has been on a path of self-destruction for over 50 years now. Most of the outrage today is coming from people being confronted by larger realities they were able to previously ignore. The Republic would be mightily helped if the Dems would simply admit they lost the 2016 election instead of continuing their endless tantrum.

Cheers

I would be curious to know how many of those who voted to oppose the withdraw has ties to weapons suppliers and government contracts to rebuild that which we destroy its a never ending business.

How could anyone worship Mattis at this point in time? Mattis got butt hurt by Trump... I can't think of anybody that would worship a butt hurt retired General.

He needs to.

The Republicans were slowly turning into globalists with the likes of George "A New World Order" Bush, his son, George "Weapons of Mass Destruction" Bush, Romney, Ryan, et al.

I can not think of anyone else that could have accomplished this other than Trump.

I support President Trump and I'm active duty, have been in for going on 19 years.
Nothing he has done has caused my support to waiver.

I think Mattis was a great general. But he came up indoctrinated in the cold war and the US War machine. So I can understand how he and Trump would conflict in removing the US from the Syria/Turkey situation.

McCraven was part of the absurd puppet show of "getting Bin Laden" he has no credibility. He's an Obama Muppet.

I'm far outside my typical ATS purview by posting in political threads, even moreso in military-related threads...but I read your comment and I wonder if you would please expand on generals "padding their resume" while running the military into the ground. What exactly do you mean? Sounds like the opinion of a past or present "soldier" (for want of a better term..."enlistee"?), but not a typical opinion.

The Democrats and media are controlling the narrative on impeachment and doing one whole hell of a lot of damage. the independents .

Republicans in Congress are hedging their bets but making a big mistake . They’re not standing with the will of the people and if they don’t smarten up we will vote them the hell out .

Trump supporters don’t put a lot stock into what DC says anyway .

We support this man for the reasons stated .

If the situation in Syria turns into a FUBAR . Although I don’t like it I can live with it .

So if she won she’d toss all those promises on the trash heap.
