Hypothetical: does anyone think Ivanka taking Donald's place in 2020 is possible?

So a read an article months ago that was playing with this rumor... It's a Salon article, so take it with a big deer lick block of salt...

Cutting right to the chase, I believe Trump might be grooming Ivanka, rather than Donald Trump Jr., to succeed him — a move that would solve a couple of Trump’s most harrowing problems. In fact, there’s a rumor currently circulating among Republican circles in Washington in which Trump suddenly declines the nomination sometime next summer, presumably for health reasons, then lobbies the convention delegates to toss their votes to Ivanka as his rightful heir and the 2020 nominee.
The rest of an essential opinion article.

Now, I am looking at a different set of reasons why (he would exit) and how he would exit... But I think Ivanka taking his place is a possibility.

He's going to be 75~ in 2020 if he wins again. Does he really want to go right up to his 80's being president when he can live some of his golden years out in relaxation and luxury? This would also give the appearance he didn't lose or quit, because one of his most trusted people would be running in his place, giving him access to the Whitehouse for 4 more years. He'd also be able to go back to running his company.

Thoughts ATS, this is more for fun, and I'm not discussing this as a probability, just curious on what people think about it.

Certainly not as a GOP candidate. She's quite the feminist believing in the myths that come with that. GOP voters and party leaders seem unlikely to back her. Don Jr. on the other hand would have some support imo.

I’d say anything is possible with Trump. This would definitely allow him to live an easier life, while maintaining power.

Why did a billionaire want to become president in the first place?

Well, for him to step aside it would require someone he thinks is almost as great as he is to take his place, so....

But I can't see Ivanka being interested.
Melania would sure be happier if he wasn't President tho.

The question for me is who would the Reps put up if Trump were to step down?

I imagine Donald would quite like a dynasty like the Kennedy's or the Bush's but I feel the World is not quite ready for President Ivanka.

The look on Christine Lagarde's face is priceless.

Unlike her father I think she would have to work her way up the ladder to power , unless the Donald names his successor.

That always perplexed me as well.

It also looks like he has fun making peoples heads explode. If Ivanka was the first women president, I could only imagine the optics around that.

Her and Jared have been pretty vocal and open about their intentions for higher office... Just not the timing.

The world still isn't ready for Donald, and he's been president for years now :insert laughing emoji:

I think Ivanka is looking more for a nice Ambassadorship. She should run for NY Senator and see how that goes. It worked for Hillary on hubby's coat-tails. Jared wants that Sec of State title so bad I can taste it for him.

I wouldn't want to taste what he would to have to get it if you catch my drift

I don't see Trump not completing his second term...There's still so much left he needs to do.

As for why he would want to be President in the first place...when he could live out the rest of his life in retirement luxury?
THAT'S not who he is...a man like him would be bored to death by not being active and taking on the biggest challenges of our time.

In Hillary's case...the path to the NY Senatorial seat was conveniently opened up for her with a mysterious private plane crash and the untimely death of JFK Jr.

Trump's not a quitter and Ivanka has too many liberal views to be a Republican.

I think the question would be is he doing it more for ego or legacy?

Also, I think we'd all have different opinions of the biggest challenges of our times... But speaking for myself, I haven't seen too many of the big challenges get more than lip service yet.

There could be the possibility trump wants the country to succeed.
You can debate until you're blue if he's accomplished that but the question is why and that could be the answer.

Honestly I'm more interested in how so many politicians become millionaires after they are elected.

Trump used to be a very prominent democrat, so I don't think we can count that as a prerequisite any more.

One thing he did do is smash all the constraints we used use to view a candidate as viable.

I can see them all sitting in jail cells before I can see a trump following trump.
The public thought one Clinton was enough. Little bush never could get out of the shadow of papa bush.. and they rejected the idea of another Bush after that.
We just dont get into the idea of rulership by heredity and tend to reject it.

Unless someone runs in his place and pardons him.

That would imply there was a crime committed, something I haven't seen adequate evidence on.... Just wishful thinking.
