Tail Wagging the Dog .... Not today
Officials won't disclose what the FBI is looking for, but the raid is one of a series of actions aimed at associates of House Speaker Mike Madigan.
Other law enforcement sources said the raid is one of “several” that are being conducted, with Sandoval’s office in Cicero and perhaps his home also set to be visited by agents in search of documents and other records.
Sandoval is not as prominent as Ald. Edward Burke, 14th, who has pleaded innocent to federal corruption charges, or Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan, some of whose top aides and associates have been targeted by federal agents.
But Sandoval comes from the same Democratic Machine background as they do, and his Senate district includes the same area as Madigan’s House district.
Retiring Ald. Danny Solis (25th) received sex acts, Viagra, free weekend use of an Indiana farm once owned by Oprah Winfrey and a steady stream of campaign contributions in exchange for shepherding official City Council actions
Solis agreed to spend more than two years cooperating in a federal investigation during which he is known to have secretly recorded at least a dozen conversations with Ald. Edward M. Burke (14th), the former chairman of the City Council’s Finance Committe
It also alleges that among the people recorded as part of the Solis investigation was Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, D-Chicago, the longest-serving state House speaker in the country.
During several wiretapped conversations, Solis and Caldero made plans to exchange Viagra or visit massage parlors while also discussing how the alderman might help Elgin Sweeping reduce its water bill
“I want to get a good massage, with a nice ending. Do you know any good places?” the alderman said.
When Caldero promised to arrange the liaison, Solis asked, “What kind of women do they got there?”
“Asian,” Caldero said.
“Oh good. Good, good, good. I like Asian,” Solis said.
The Cacciatore family has major real estate holdings in the 25th Ward and had donated regularly to Solis for many years, Caldero said
It's the small moments in the Family Secrets trial that get overshadowed but are often fascinating.
Take the testimony of real estate investor Victor Cacciatore.
Cacciatore's testimony came at the end of a long day filled with the cross-examination of the prosecution's star witness, Nicholas Calabrese.
While Calabrese's testimony will get the headlines, Cacciatore's statements contain some interesting nuggets.
Cacciatore testified about being extorted by the mob during the early 1980s.
Cacciatore confirmed he was the victim of mob threats, including having the head of a dog placed on his son's car.
Cacciatore had his back windshield shot out and received threatening phone calls.
Cacciatore said he was initially extorted for $5 million and wound up paying $200,000 to get the Outfit off his back.
Sen. Chuck Schumer: "Simply to release the transcript is not going to come close to ending the need of the American public and the Congress to see what actually happened."
