Recently some on the left have asked the question of why some Trump voters are interested in and support Gabbard.
Their reasoning is this, if you want Trump to win, and Gabbard has the best shot to beat him in the general election isn't that counter productive to your political interests.

I have an answer to that charge, they are simply Americans before they are Democrats or Republicans, the political tribalism that has infected a large part of the country has not engulfed them, they are independent critical thinkers that ultimately want what is best for America and it's people. It's this block of voters within the critical swing states which will decide the 2020 election.

I spend alot of time in other subs and other forums and I can tell you 12 reasons why Trump voters in 2016 could go for Tulsi in 2020, and why DNC primary voters need to be strategic when they cast their vote this primary season, not for who they like the best, but who can actually beat Trump in the general election, Harris supporters I am looking at you.

1) Because these are the same people that always go for the anti-establishment candidate. In the primaries they voted for Dennis Kucinich(D) or Ron Paul(R) in 2008. They might have voted Webb(D) in 2016. And finally Trump in the general in 2016.

2) There is another group that realizes that Gabbard is the only sane person among the DNC field, she has also shown some ability to not pander to the far left and give in to the absolute lunacy.

3) She has also said categorically no to impeachment, beat Trump at the election, not through charges of we don't like him.

4) In the event Trump does lose in 2020 it's a way to hedge your bets for better leadership in America.

5) Tulsi started as a Republican but changed to a Democrat to win in her home state. She would swing more to the center as president.

6) She alone has the ability to attempt to heal the intense political tribal hatred that has developed since 2015.

7) The peace dividend by ending the neocons and neolibs foreign policy of empire building overseas, Trump has been a disappointment in this area.

8) She stood up to the Russian hoax when it became clear, before all other democrats.

9) She has gravitas as a Major(still active in the national guard) in the military and served in Iraq as a combat medic.

10) She stood up to the Clintons in the 2016 election cycle when everybody else cowered before them.

11) She crushed Harris last debate showing she can handle herself against the best in debates.

12) Finally and the least important, but she is a cool female minority that surfs and is easy on the eyes, and her voice is better and more soothing than some of her opponents that seem to almost screech with disrespect.

What is she polling at right now, just against all the whacko Democrats that she is running against?

She wants to raise taxes and ban "assault" weapons.

(What ARE assault weapons, btw?)

I wish we could eliminate personalities from elections and just vote on the issues.

Sure, she's got a sultry voice, is easy on the eyes, has a nice ass. But so did Stalin.

I think tptb are setting Tulsi up to be the nominee.
She’s the underdog and it appears there’s a conspiracy against her and we all know Trump supporters love an underdog with the world against them.
She’s much more moderate than they others which to be fair isn’t hard since the rest are raving lunatics.
And she actually has some charisma and can string a sentence together.

She is the only one I’ve seen who won’t get absolutely creamed but I don’t think Trump is gonna lose any support, it’s just a matter of how much he can gain from last time.

Trump 2020

I think the gun control and healthcare for illegals are a deal breaker.

She needs to dump that crap.

That makes sense considering she was listed as a member of the CFR pretty much up until the time she decided to run. If people remember Jimmy Carters wonderful reign as Prez he was groomed by the CFR to do their bidding.

Not all her positions are palatable to Trump voters and some are defiantly deal breakers, so some of them would never vote for her no matter what, solid red states for example. I have no doubt she could easily take a state like Michigan back in the general given the statistics for 2016 on what happened there.

The CFR connection is troubling for sure

I am not convinced that she can win in the primaries.
She is what looks best to a moderate voter amongst the wingnuts that make up her competition at the moment....
Why isn't she topping the polls?

I think you're right.

The rest of them are just so far out into Looney Toons land that she seams reasonable by comparison.

The anti self defense stance is a deal breaker and should be for every American.

Gabbard is the closest thing to sanity in a insane democratic party.

I do not agree with all of her policies, but neither do I agree with all of Trump's policies. It's early still, but I am keeping my eye on Tulsi.

Thank-you very much for that summary on candidate Tulsi Gabbard.

It's so early in the game, I haven't bothered to learn anything about the candidates, or watch any debates.

By starting this thread though, you may cause Ms. Gabbard to LOSE early in the primaries. Think about how DEMOCRATS will react if Trump voters start liking Gabbard!

Edit to add: I see she's a COMBAT VETERAN too! Another PLUS.

Gabbard won't make the cut based on percentages at this point.

Why would you laugh at the BEST chance that the democrats have of taking back the White House?

What happened to "by any means necessary?"

This type of voter has such a strong cognitive dissonance from TDS they are lost.

"Vote against Gabbard in the primaries because we don't want Trump voters in the general to come over and help us win, we don't want those racists support" great way to lose, then again they took out Bernie in 2016.

A combat veteran who wants to make it more difficult for Americans to defend themselves at home never gets my vote. Plus she's a democrat and has likely rubber stamped all kinds of looney tunes false promise legislation.
She is diametrically opposed to common sense in a classic politician style mix and match fashion.

Nope.

Also of interest

Ron Paul says he supports the candidacy of Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, because she is the “very best” Democrat running for president and is “good on foreign policy.”

"Tulsi Gabbard by far is the very, very best," the former Texas congressman said in an interview, "She is very liberal when it comes to economics. We probably wouldn't agree with too much on economics."

Gabbard, a combat veteran who served overseas in Iraq and Kuwait, announced her 2020 campaign with a video that slammed "both parties who never tire of war.” Paul, who ran for president as a Libertarian candidate in 1988 and in the Republican primaries in 2008 and 2012, is known for backing noninterventionist foreign policy.
"She is good on foreign policy,” Paul said. “She does not want these engagements, which is an economic issue. We'd save a lot of money by not being engaged like this."

"She's the most intelligent and would be the best," Paul added. "If we had to pick one of them to be our president, I think she would be giving us the best chance as for bringing about peace."

Interesting, a unity ticket that defies the boundaries of the current political landscape would be a Gabbard/Paul ticket(his son Rand) it probably would never happen. But is there any doubt that ticket would challenge Trump more than any other ?

Aren't certain members of the house committee automatically enrolled in the CFR? But it is interesting she didn't remove herself before it was spotlighted.

It's possible, but I thought it was more of an elite private club. Invitation only....
