It's clear as mud..
I'm going to assume you mean asteroids floating between planets and solar systems.

Considering everything required for chlorophyll to exist I would think that its impossible for it to exist on an asteroid.

But since there is literally billions of solar systems it is likely that those materials are on other worlds.

Or, it's the age old story

Good vs evil......that would make the aliens who haven't shown their card yet....just teases....

Make them the critters told of in Scripture.......can have wings.......or two or four legs.....shift all they want into whatever they want..In Scrtipture....calls em ruler of the air

So when those darn Christians leave and nothing is in their way, ....they step out their doors and say we are your makers

Who made them, the idiots

And my point was every compound with the exception of protein and chlorophyll can be found in interstellar space and harvested easier than landing on a planet, extraterrestrials coming here for 'resources' would be coming for food.

Everything humans consume is a type of lifeform is it not? Life eats life .

so, what if you're already being harvested and haven't realized yet? what i mean is, you (also me and everyone else) are plugged into this thing called "reality" but there's plenty of things that exists that are not part of our reality, so what if, this is just what they want us to see, while they harvest our energy (something like the matrix but no). The way we're being jailed and harvested is through our bodies.. we have only 5 senses.. those are the boundries of our reality.. just think about it, what if those boundries are in fact our jail, and conciousness what we really are, and our bodies are our jail..

Yes it is,,,but and it's a big but...
Think of all the lifeforms on the planet.
Now think of how many humans cannot eat.

We are all born on the same planet and it's hard to imagine that alien lifeforms would be wholly compatible.

They might not even be carbon based.

Abrahamic religions are gonna implode when incontrovertible proof of sentient extraterrestrial life beyond Earth is discovered - whether that be through "first contact" or any other occurrence and/or discovery...

Even so, chances are that any "sentient" extraterrestrial life capable of making a trip all the way to Earth from wherever will most likely "arrive" in the form of some sort of autonomous AI (robot) emissary and/or explorer etc.

Or - it could be worse. We could see something akin to the popularly termed "Berserker probes"...

Eh. It might never happen. Although a religion that goes into pretty great detail about non-human entities of various types coming out of the sky to interact with humans might have less of a problem with it than you'd think. Their angels aren't bugs, of course, but that could just be literary license.

i think, given the likely plethora of different alien species one might encounter, they would have a variety of motives. some would ignore us, some would likely eat us, some would befriend us.

and some might approach our leaders clandestinely, make a deal with them to trade technology for 'abductees', break the terms of that deal and carry on regardless because our best military and scientific knowledge was utterly incapable of any counter-measures. this would, of course, then have to be kept secret from the public. AT ALL COSTS.

To serve mankind? Certainly not. What a crazy assumption.
For food? Now it's getting even crazier.

The thing is the universe is mostly empty space. To find a planet with all the requirements for life is rare. To find intelligent life even more so.
They we're probably super excited when they found us. And then super disappointed when they observed us a bit. The only way we might be able to charm them into reveal their presence is if we could convince them there's at least one human not completely selfish and insane.

Yes, but considering humans (and Earth) are basically the centre of the universe according to these religions, then the undisputed evidence of the existence of sentient extraterrestrial life may pose a great big threat.

That being said, I believe I once heard - from a Christian, rather oddly - that it is only Islam which best accommodates the existence of sentient extraterrestrial life beyond Earth...

I think this episode was the basis for a Simpson’s treehouse of horror a long time ago. The book was “How to Cook Humans” then turned out to be “How to Cook for Humans” before finally being revealed as “How to Cook for Forty Humans”. Does anyone else remember that one?

Yes - the book's title was obscured by dust or something.

There is a classic Twilight Zone episode called "To Serve Man" having to do with extraterrestrials making first contact:

To Serve Man (Twilight Zone)

It's a great episode and if you haven't seen it you must see it. Here's a basic synopsis of the story:

"Initially wary of an alien race who came "quite uninvited", international leaders begin to be persuaded of the Kanamits' benevolence when their advanced technology puts an end to hunger, energy shortages, and the arms race. Trust in the Kanamits seems to be justified when Patty, a member of the cryptography staff led by Chambers, decodes the title of the Kanamit book: To Serve Man. The Kanamits submit to interrogation and polygraph, at the request of the UN delegates. When declaring their benevolent intentions, the polygraph indicates that the Kanamit is speaking the truth.

Soon, humans are volunteering for trips to the Kanamits' home planet, which they describe as a paradise. Kanamits now have embassies in every major city on Earth. With the U.S. Armed Forces having been disbanded and world peace having been achieved, the code-breaking staff has no real work to do, but Patty is still trying to work out the meaning of the text of To Serve Man.

The day arrives for Chambers's excursion to the Kanamits' planet. Just as he mounts the spaceship's boarding stairs, Patty runs toward him in great agitation. While being held back by a Kanamit guard, Patty cries: "Mr. Chambers, don't get on that ship! The rest of the book To Serve Man, it's... it's a cookbook!" Chambers tries to run back down the stairs, but a Kanamit blocks him, the stairs retract, and the ship lifts off."

So my question and thoughts are about the idea of extraterrestrials harvesting humans for food. So my thinking if extraterrestrials had FTL technology they would be way more advanced than us. So if the extraterrestrials wanted to harvest us for food they would have done it by now. So if you believe the extraterrestrials are here and do exist then I guess it's safe to assume they are not going to harvest us for food.

I guess you could argue they are harvesting humans but I think the rest of us would know if a few million were harvested. I read since 9/11 about 1 to 4 million Arabs have been killed by US bombings. Maybe the extraterrestrials are harvesting Arabs before the bombs hit. Truly advanced technology would be able to allow the extraterrestrials to do things would not be able to imagine.

I test to think the extraterrestrials do exist and are way more technological advance than us so they are very difficult to detect. I have a pretty dark view of humanity so I think we've probably tried to the nuke ourselves several times and the extraterrestrials prevented it. I think besides preventing us from nuking ourselves the extraterrestrials really see the Earth like a zoo.

I think we are pets for the extraterrestrials and they love us.

So ATS, why are they here and what are the extraterrestrials motives?

They are us.....religons are dogma....they are here because they exist as we do.

What was the point of quoting the entire original post?

You comment reminds me of a story:

One day two monks were in a garden arguing subjectivity versus objectivity. The Zen master hearing them arguing approached the two students. The Zen master asked, "that rock over there, does that exist inside your head or outside your head?". One of the monks looked up at the Zen master and replied, "Well, our religious bible tells us that all truth is subjective so that rock over there only exists inside my head." At which point the Zen master replies, "Then it must be pretty heavy all day walking around with that rock in your head!"

Your idea of reality is like the rock in the story.
