UN Nuclear Agency Chief: Iran Has Accelerated Uranium Enrichment

President Trumps withdrawal from the nuclear agreement with Iran, and heightened tensions with Iran leads to US non-essential personel being recalled from Iraq and recently stationing a carrier strike force outside the Straits of Hormuz, this is starting to seem like a pile of tinder waiting for a spark.

Iran has followed through on a threat to accelerate its production of enriched uranium, the head of the UN atomic watchdog said on Monday, departing from his usual guarded language to say he was worried about increasing tension.

"Yes, (the) production rate is increasing," Yukiya Amano told reporters, citing the latest measurements collected by IAEA inspectors in Iran, when asked if enriched uranium production had accelerated since the agency's last quarterly report, which found Iran compliant with the nuclear deal as of May 20. He declined to say how much it had increased by.

Trump has argued over and over that he does not wish or intend to intervene militarily in Iran, but all options are soon coming off the table as negotiations break down. And that is the scary part in this whole situation. When negotiations break down, it leaves the ground futile for conflict with no dialogue.

I don't like spreading the doom and gloom but we're looking at a major situation, the likes of which we haven't seen since the cold war era.

But that begs the question, are we doing the right thing for this region and thus the world? Hasn't history shown us that dictators only have perused weapons of mass destruction and nuclear capability in the name of defense to their sovereignty? America has been the only and first nation to produce nuclear capabilities for offensive purposes. The soviets started theirs to counter America, Britain and France to counter the Soviets, Chinese to counter Soviets AND Americans, India to counter Pakistan, Pakistan to counter India, North Korea to counter America, Israel to counter the middle east, Gaddafi & Saddam to counter the west. Can we agree Irans nuclear ambition isn't to destroy the world, but defend their sovereignty against America?

If they didn't have the oil, we would have treated them like NK. But since they do have some of Jed Clampet's juice, we will probably have to show them how to do democracy our way. Perhaps we can do it quietly, have the CIA fund some small group, have them overthrow the government, install a puppet, then have a fresh new enemy in the CIA funded small group to have a war with in a few years. It's kind of our go to move at this point, and seems to be working sooper well.

lend him the shop, and even ask if he needs help. But keep an eye on him. You can't go after him for what you think he might do.

Depends who you take your information from. Ali Khamenei has said many times the goal is the elimination of the West and Israel, which would make their desire for nuclear weapons an offensive one. Ali Khamenei is the real ruler and the buck stops with him, not the false front President who literally has no real power. Anything said to the Western press can be assumed to be propaganda.

I'd say Iran's end game is to develop nukes for offense. Stopping them from actually possessing nukes is no doubt the best for the world. Not to mention they might share them with the radical organizations they fund and provide weapons too.

Remember that long ago Russia offered to provide all the nuclear fuel they needed for reactors, when they were still saying all they wanted is nuclear power not weapons. You remember that I'm sure. They lied for a long time and the lesson in that is they would also being lying now. Ali Khamenei may be the most dangerous man on Earth and certainly so if they get nukes. Point taken. But doesn't North Korea have the same rhetoric? There is no doubt in my mind however, that you are indeed right. We've seen 8 wars, 2 intifadas, and numerous border-conflicts against the Jewish state.

I do agree that preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear state is the best choice for the world. Like you said, they can easily fall to the hands of terrorist organizations and wreak major havoc. But I again do not agree that Irans nuclear program is offensive at heart.

To this day Israel has never publically acknowledged their possession of nuclear weapons. This is called the fog of war, and war it is, just maybe not the conventional type normal people think of. This is a war of geo-politics, and Iran is trying to cling to power. Iran has suffered a revolution where they seen a monarch come to power and rob them and give to the oil companies. Then there was a counter-revolution that saw the opposite, the antagonist of the west. Irans fued with us dates back to the early 1900's, this is nothing new to them.

But them saying they don't intend to make nukes I wouldn't say is lying, its them being smart. What would happen if they come out and say "so we lied, we really want nukes to make sure America can't invade us like they did to Saddam", while we have troops stationed literally all around them. I get it, I understand it. But will I accept it? Absolutely not, because it's about the status quo and American hegemony AND the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. It's bad enough we have nukes to destroy the world 100x over...Lets try to limit the people that they're available too, and then from there begin to remove parts of our arsenals until there are mutually NO more nuclear weapons left. *Dreamer by John Lennon comes on*
