In the UK we have service charge included but I do think many in the catering industry are underpaid.
My rule of thumb is that if the food and the service is good then I will always tip.

What if all companies have been underpaying at basically every sub management level.. and they have been permitted to do that because of lobbying to keep min wage and unionization low???
What if every sub manager position should get a raise..

Because who do you think pays for the loss...
We do.. well your Canadian is you don’t, but I do..
When people go to the ER that cost just gets passed to the consumer..
When a company pays people less than they could ever support just themselves for working a full time work week, who do you think covers the extra??
Tax payers, friends and family exc..
I have never understood the concept of people thinking they festering pits they ignore will not bust their safe little bubble..
Ignore public schools and watch the ghettos become pits of violence and ignorance, and think that won’t spill over into your nice white picket fence if you want to..
All civilization has followed a set trend.. the wealthy create systems to keep and multiply their wealth till they have so much the peasants get pissed and burn it all down..
Wash , rinse , repeat all throughput history..
Every socialist revolution and many other societal collapses have all really boiled down to that..

Friendly reminder...
Minimum wage and a 40 hour work week will not support one person in the worst , reasonable living conditions..
Which is just inherently insane..
How is it legal to work your employees for what we all agree is a full time job, but pay them less than one person could possibly survive off of..
Meaning you need 2 min wage jobs just to break even.. and that is zero emergency fund.. or crazy extra expenses..

When the rich get government money it's fine.
But when the poor get government money it's a travesty.
