Mice are pests. It amuses me to no end that when scientists want to conduct studies like this they choose a common pest as a substitute for humans. LOL

It's interesting that some atheists are sending their kids to religious schools, when asked why, they say it's because it provides a basic moral grounding. Ironic isn't it ?

Look at the 1st World. You've heard of 1st World Problems, right?

Now listen to this on the Mouse Utopia experiment and tell me there aren't a few parallels emerging there.

There is a science fiction book called The Sparrow. If you read the author's stuff in it, part of the inspiration was about the author's journey as an atheist to realizing that moral grounding for her kids would best be provided by an upbringing in faith. So part of the story is her inner feelings about that and her anger at it.

She chose Judaism, btw, because she felt it offered the most remote and "hands off" version of God while still providing that moral grounding and a solid foundation for it.

Well the 10 commandments are the bare basics, if people make a strong effort to apply them, their life will be better and so will the people who are around them.

Slavery did not always mean what we think it did back in Biblical times. We have to go back in time and understand the culture at the time and not put our modern spin on it. Only then can we understand why things are worded the way they are.

God is speaking to his people when they willingly gave themselves up to be slaves, ie: "God established principles that will end slavery as practiced by the Romans and the world. God’s idea of slavery was that it should be primarily voluntary and it was primarily an economic resource for very poor people. It was usually for survival. He required release of slaves after six years of service. Yet, a man or woman could choose to remain permanently if desired. All other nations mistreated, abused, killed and devalued their slaves, but God makes it clear this was not acceptable."

And so, with such slavery you can't get upset or bemoan your fate when this is what you subjected yourself to.

.......

Then why are like 4 commandments “don’t worship any other gods” when if you only have ten slots you would think maybe “don’t molest children “, “don’t keep slaves”, don’t rape”, maybe..

I don’t know..

Any of the other stuff it left off in favor of 3 more that make god look like a stalker ex..

Those pests share 97.5% of their working DNA with humans !

that's why rats , mice , pigs , and chimps are used primarily for comparison studies

In order for a species to evolve, any species, it requires stressors. An organism, a species, will never grow/evolve if stressors are not applied to it.

We are becoming stagnant.

Best answer so far.
"Wiser but weaker"

and complete habitat loss isnt a factor in our adaptations and overall evolution ?, we are under huge environmental pressure to change !

Many Christians constantly complain about the deterioration of society, when they should be happy to see prophecy fulfilled.

That's about as insane as it gets, being in a death cult that gleefully awaits the destruction of civilization.

Not to mention forced evolution...which changes the natural evolutionary course and provides synthetic evolution. Once we uncrack the whole gene code for editing and can edit human traits at will who knows what evolution looks like.

However it is not synthetic if derived from nature

it is all a part of the one universe so cant be unnatural

Humans build houses and machines just like bees build hives and spiders webs!

maybe our evolution will require technology , maybe we will now only evolve psychologically

Confinement, even under the best conditions is still confinement. In my experience, even the lowest lifeforms seem to realize they are trapped when they are confined.

As an example:

I've been having a problem with ticks for some 7 or so years around my place. So I read a lot of information on tick behaviors and decided to observe them more closely and experiment on them. Last season I collected about a half dozen American dog ticks and put them in a one gallon glass pickle jar. Immediately they all seem to realize they were stuck in there.

One day I put the lid on the jar cock-eyed and they all began climbing up to the opening and crawl out. After about two weeks of confinement they all died, which is strange because they can live for at up to two seasons without attaching to a host and feeding.

A lack of water or clean air? Perhaps, but I thought they were practically indestructible and motivated by instinct alone, I was wrong. They were aware, they knew I had them trapped and that they were doomed. I may be giving them too much credit, but as mindless are they are, IMO they were aware of being trapped and gave up living.

A "god" can be many things other than God. Many people in the modern world have the god of money or the god of material things, for example. Other people are fanatics (fans) and put pop cultural things on that pedestal or their favorite sports team. Still others put politics, political parties, or their cause du jour in that spot in their hearts.

Like it or not, people have a need to believe in something, and they tend to put their faith in something.

That's because most people willfully misunderstand that bit.

None of us wants it all to end because we know the consequences. None of us knows for sure where we are all destined, what the End will look like or even if it works out well for us. You can at best have faith, but until it all falls out, you don't know.

What it is certain is that there will be a lot of death, destruction, and misery for all too many other people. That's because most people are not believers, and even some who think they are believers aren't, so many of the people we know, possibly even us, are going to suffer and die horribly. No one sane wants that.

The only reason to look forward to it is because when it's all over, the world will be a much better place, but only at an incredibly high cost. Society has to be awfully bad before we start wanting it to be done with.

But you know as well as I do that there are always those people in all groups who just want to watch the world burn because they're done with it. Doom porn is doom porn, and the fatalistic are the fatalistic. Christians are no different on that score from any other group. It's like wishing for the giant meteor to come wipe us or for someone to finally push the red button, and it has it's roots in the same impulse that creates movies like 12 Monkeys.

Nope, It's a totally literal explanation of what's going to happen when the tribulation blasts all the apostate heathens like you straight into the 9th circle of hell.
