TAT, it could be to do with the Carolingians taking over power from the Merovingians. (wiki linky).

The first Carolingian king was Pepin, who took the throne from the Merovngians with the consent of the Papacy.

However, the second Carolingian king was Charlemagne who was also the first Emperor of the Romans from 800 A.D.

If you believe in the merovingians being the bloodline of Christ then Charlemagne was effectively the move of power from Christ to Roman pagans?

Re European Union election - UK results so far from BBC News live broadcast:

BREXIT Party - 21 seats = 32%
Liberal Democrats - 10 seats = 20%
Labour Party - 7 seats = 15%
Green Party - 5 seats = 12%
Conservative Party - 2 seats = 7%
(i.e. only 1 in 11 people voted for the party in government!)

The Brexit Party was formed by Nigel Farage only a few months ago, so maybe the conservatives should have taken POTUS advice and made him ambassador to U.S. and they wouldn't have faced coming in 5th place with Farage's party getting 10 times as many seats as them!

POTUS has definitely got some bragging rights when he meets Theresa May on his state visit next week!

CT, firstly bear in mind this is not for the national government; this is for UK seats in the European Union parliament - however, it can be seen as a national opinion on the performance on BREXIT of the conservative government.

In the UK national government, the Conservatives are in government and the Labour party is the main opposition. The Liberal Democrats are basically a third party reduced to just a handful of seats at the last election.

The BREXIT party was set up only weeks ago by Nigel Farage. It has a simple manifesto - "We want to exit the European fully and soon - even if it means a Hard Brexit" (i.e. with no new agreement on customs etc. with Europe).

Therefore the Brexit party, by getting the highest proportion of votes (32% and at least 50% larger than any other party), has allowed the British people to make a clear statement to the current government and opposition:

"We voted to leave the European Union. You are trying to keep us in by stealth and trying to pull the wool over our eyes! We want to leave and bu**er any parting agreement with the EU... just get us out!"

So far...

The government is in FIFTH place in this vote.
The people have given the Brexit party 30 to 40 seats in the EU parliament.
The people have given the governing Conservative Party 2 seats in the EU parliament.
The people have given the opposition Labour Party 10 seats in the EU parliament.
The people have given the shrinking Liberal Democrats the second highest number of seats - more than Labour or Conservatives.
The people have given the BREXIT party twice as many seats as both the Conservatives and Labour added together!

Nigel Farage, in his victory speech, has warned the UK government that if we don't leave by Oct 31st this year then the BREXIT party will stand for UK government elections and get the same result.

If this were to happen then both the Conservative party and the Labour Party will become minor parties and probably never govern again. This will move UK from a basically 2 party politics to a 6 or 7 party politics with more coalition governments.

This would be the death of the OLD GUARD!

In summary, 52% of the people wanted to leave the EU at the referendum in 2016 - and they're mightily annoyed the government has not implemented their decision.

Personally I've indicated a few times on this thread that we need a Hard Brexit, get out and negotiate the future after, from a stronger position.

I believe a hard brexit will create the need for the british people to get back to work rather than scrounging off the state - only 33% of adults are putting more taxes into the government than they're taking out in hand outs!!

If 'Operation Charlemagne' isn't 'The Royal Scam'....I don't know what would be.

I was familiar with the song, but never delved into the lyrics until now. Interesting story behind them.
