Especially if the guy did not decide to fall asleep with a gun in his lap.

Were the cops able to get the gun off his lap before the shooting happened? If yes, my next paragraph is void.

The guy was passed out in a drive thru with a gun on his lap.... If that doesn't bring you to a point of extreme caution, you're a moron. It's very telling of someone who is both high on drugs and looking to commit a crime. If the

If the gun was still in his possession, legit kill. If it wasn't, murder.

That made no sense in the context of that post.

Police should be issued glock 18's with drum mags. If its really necessary to put 25 bullets into a guy to stop a threat, or a possible threat, they might as well be efficient at it.

Might cut down on cops getting carpal tunnel as well.

What responsibility does the guy in the car bare for sleeping in a drive thru with a gun in his lap?

He should be in jail for that, not a coffin.

Obviously he is an idiot for falling asleep in the Taco Bell drive through with a gun in his lap. Stupid as it gets. But is that a death penalty offense?

He bears responsibility for it but that doesn't mean the cops bear no responsibility. Five cops emptied their clips into one sleeping man. Do you not think that was overkill? Are you really ok with cops being that trigger happy?

I guess the 2nd only applies to white Americans.

Why is he asleep with a gun on his lap?

We will never know why. He wasn't allowed due process.

Warning shots are irresponsible.

If you don't know where your rounds are going then YOU are irresponsible.

Your experience means nothing to me. This isn't Afghanistan or Iraq where firing over the heads of people to get them back is acceptable. I've done this myself. Warning shots in a populated area with people as a back stop is stupid and irresponsible.

So yes, stay in your lane, hopefully you won't be stupid enough to kill someone with your "warning shots".

I have never accidentally shot anyone :-) My actions have always been deliberate and calculated. The cops could have fired a warning shot into the ground or into the back seat of the car (since they knew he was the only one in the car). They didn't have to fire a warning shot into the air, which I agree would be irresponsible in a populated area.

Cheers - Dave

The second amendment applies to all Americans.

The cops could have woken him up. They could have taken that gun while keeping him covered. They could have done a lot of things except shoot him. Warning shots are NOT one of those things they should have done.

If you fire a shot not aimed and you hit someone that was not an accident. Anything that isn't a mechanical failure is negligence.

Even this one? What if he had a carry permit?

This isn't a second amendment issue. This is a conduct issue.

For the sake of argument, 6 fools blasting into a car isn't really any more responsible shooting, ricochets, pass throughs..etc

Because he had a gun and made movements. Would he have been shot if he did not have a gun on his lap?

Then he should be more responsible with his gun than falling asleep with it in his lap where a criminal walking past could see it and easily steal it.

There was no death penalty and he was not killed for the mere fact of having a gun. He created this situation. Now that doesn't mean the police did everything perfect, but I am not going to place ALL the blame on the police.

I don't know anyone is saying he doesn't bear some responsibility. Doesn't mean the police should get a free pass on that bullchit.
