I think the owners and moderators could do more to improve this site.

1. Delete the mud pit
2. More aggressively moderate personal attacks (I would even say you just experienced one mate "put a sock in it" address the issue not the poster)
3. Zero tolerance approach to any insinuation of violence and blatant xenophobia (I'm talking insta-bans)

This may be drifting off topic but in a way its not. The Christchurch atrocity is all about toxic internet culture through and through

I expressed a similar sentiment a few pages back. I miss the old ATS too. It was a site full of "fox mulders", trying to get to the bottom of "High Strangeness" and why the government is trying to obfusicate it. That element is still here and the only reason I haven't left. It is sadly been drowned out by this extremist culture war that seems to be taking place. There are people on this site who move in the same circles as this butcher from Christchurch, of that, I have no doubt

There is debate taking place in Australia right now about the need to crack down on social internet platforms. I suspect some sites will be geo blocked in the near future, maybe even some major ones. (lookout "chan" sites, maybe even facebook and twitter.

Edit: My point of saying the above. If ATS gets even remotely known as being a "safe place" for extremist views, it may find itself Geo blocked in certain countries or even de-platformed entirely. There is too much knowledge archived in here to lose. I don't want to see this place become an "extremist site". I don't think it is yet, but I don't think it's far below the surface here either. I have seen smatterings of that from some posts in this thread and elsewhere in recent times.

I agree. It's really close to the extreme zone. Over here in Iceland we have people talking their # in the comment sections of our news sites. One of them had to close to the comments on Friday due to the hate speech from guys saying "WELL DONE!!" to the terrorist attacks in NZ and there were a few of them actually. It's scary that people in such a nice place as Iceland have been brainwashed into hating foreigners as much as they do. Refugees have been protesting for a better life the whole week and today the Icelandic National party which consists of 13 racists decided to show up at their protest to protest their protest lol. All 13 of them showed up and it's kinda good to see the faces of those cowards. They stood there for an hour acting stupid and nothing happened, but it's scary....refugees in Iceland have as much right to exist as any other person. They even did this in light of the attacks yesterday, trying to build more hate, when you'd think even the craziest ones would just step back and breathe..and show a little bit of sympathy.

I agree it's bad if ATS gets geoblocked for it's racist users but it's sadly looking like they've won the war over here. I loved this site and swore it was the truth to everybody...but nowadays?? ehh....
Nothing against the owners or the mods though, but the users create the content and it looks like they got this one unfortunately.

Unfortunately refugees get priority over our own people for housing. We have a massive housing shortage due to a certain ethnicity buying up bouses and leaving them vacant,yet we take in refugees and give them precedence over our own people,who live in cars,while others get houses. I'm not going to waste time explaining it,if you want to educate yourself,use a search enging. NZ is waaay to small for this,our economy can't handle it,our govt doesn't get it. I rent a house. When I moved here 2yrs ago,it was 340 a week,now it is 540 a week.....at this rate me and 2 kids and wife will be living under a bridge. We can't take immigrants for a few years,but our PM is a whore for the votes in an upcoming election.

Really?? I'm in Iceland, every single refugee or immigrant is an foreigner to us. Until they get to live here at least, but I was originally talking about refugees protesting for a better life in Iceland.

And no, you can't be racist towards religions. Anybody can be muslim, white yellow black or brown. Blaming rightwing culture is just common sense.
