I'd be dead in a week or two, lol. I don't have the enormous amounts of cash to have the land and types of luxurious off-this setups that you guys have. Hey, at least I'm honest. :p

That's when you make friends with someone you can be an ally and asset to. Seriously. Sometimes I hear people say they will go stay with prepared ___________ (persons) without bringing anything to the table. Just be accepted on their good looks and gregarious personality I guess. Make yourself valuable with attributes and skills others might need and then put yourself in their way. Not everyone who has what you don't can necessarily last on their own and they might need numbers in their effort to assist in their success. I happen to be in that boat. But I don't plan on letting every Tom, Dick or Harry just come out to my place because I have what they want and didn't or couldn't plan for.

Yeah, a country boy can survive. Got fresh water from wells and stream, livestock and wildlife, greenhouse and fields. Most importantly got guns. It would be hell on city folks after a couple days.

Don't kid yourself. City folk would form gangs quickly after looting gun shops and head out to the country. That plume of smoke rising from your 'hidden' cabin is a bullseye.

You better have a lot of guns and friends. Country folk are only kidding themselves if they think they have it better. People will want what you have and come looking for it and violence will ensue.

I put my money 100000000000000000000000000000000000X over on country folks.

Sorry city folks do have the violence going for them, but most of them can't survive in the woods at all.
Country folks are one with the woods. Also if you think preppers will have a billow of smoke coming from the cabin think again.

Edit to add... have you seen city folks shoot, man they can barely hit anything. It is humorous. Country folks shoot for fun and have to hit in order to eat. Big difference!

You misunderstand.

I'd put my money on the country folk too. I'm saying that if you think it's going to be all sunshine and rainbows simply because you live in the country, you've got another thing coming. Anything else is naivety.

It is you who are kidding themselve. Raiding a gun store and go hunting country folks in their own area? Dream on. Since you libs don’t approve of guns it must be that you have not practice or proficiency with them. Don’t think that you just point and shoot. Come on out and live your dream with some real serious combat vets.

Fool
Libs lol?

See the message above this one, you clearly misunderstood my post.

And I'm anything but a liberal, no idea where you got that from, lol.

I got the idea that you are lib from your rather poorly thought out post. If you really knew anything at all about combat, guns or survival you wouldn’t have made such a foolish remark. Liberals tend to make such foolish remarks, so ...

I didn’t see anyone say it would be “sunshine and roses”. But it would be the difference between no water, food, gasoline or electricity and ...yup we got food, water and a roof over our heads. May even have a little 90 proof.

If the US faced what is happening in Venezuela, I don't think it would be pretty for most Americans.

The number one thing is clean water. Where would you get yours?

I also think about how many people are on medications. How long have you gone without electricity? I've
gone a little over 2 weeks. People are also so far removed from their food. How many people could catch, and kill a squirrel, a bird, a frog etc.
How many people can forage?

I can't even imagine living in a city if that happened. First looting and craziness. Then desperation and probably relocation?

www.npr.org...

"My daughter that is now living here, she has a kid. And she's pregnant. ... She's always worried. Now we don't have light. We don't have water. So it's very hard to live here with all these, you know, situations."

Sadly it's what history has shown, some civilizations are just smarter and harder workers then others. Make better choices.

In the way past if a weaker civilization was attacked by a larger one like ghengis Khan or the persians
The killings would last months as they would work to erase everything from that civilization.

Imagine being in that horrible situation then attacked and butchered.

There are preventive measures to avoid catastrophic diseasers like Venezuela.

And in my history liberals are willing to gamble a lot and not.think about preventive measures.

Conserve baby. Conserve your food, water, money, sexuality. Dont be liberal with those topics.

Are you guys really serious about what most of you are saying? I haven't seen any post in this thread that indicates to me that any of you are truly aware of what is going on in Venezuela right now. Most of you are looking at things from the perspective of where you currently live and what you have available, it just isn't like that down there.

First off, you wouldn't have a gun because the government banned and confiscated them all from their citizens. You can't even legally own a sling shot down there, much less a pellet or BB gun. Money would be worthless, so forget about any legal tender. Stocking up on food and water? Nope, the government would take your stash and you'd be jailed as a hoarder or a black marketeer. Hunting and gathering food? A big no go, they already ate everything that moves. Water? Maybe, if it isn't polluted and/or tainted by diseases.

From the type of responses I've seen here, none of you people would have much of a chance to live more than three weeks if conditions were like they are in Venezuela. Your best bet would to be a government slave or a prostitute, even then you'd probably die.

What happened in Venezuela, happened slowly over a few years.

The socialists came to power. They nationalized the oil fields and chased off the people who maintain them (Americans) . That was a very short sighted move.

Slowly, the economy ground to a halt. People have been fleeing the country for some time now. I would assume that people with money and/or other resources either left the country or have moved out of the big cities where they can survive the current bad times.

People in rural areas typically have a better understanding of farming, hunting and how to survive when the economy has tanked.

So, if this happened in our country, many people would see that times are getting bad and prepare accordingly. I do think that people in rural areas would do better than people in big cities.

How typical. Americans throwing mud at a tragic situation their government created and injecting the weak socialist argument ontop of it.

Arrogant. Wicked. Immorral. Ignorant.

Don’t eat grass. You are not able to digest it. You can extract the nutrients by pounding the leaves and soaking in water. Filter the green liquid and drink that. Now the seeds can be pounded for flour and it will take a whole lot effort to gather and grind. Wheat is just a grass after all.

I suggest looking at the SHTF Plan website for survival information. It covers a lot of what is going on in Venezuela. Have a gander at what a guy named Selco has been saying about surviving a similar situation.

Selco survived the Balkan war of the 90s in a city under siege, without electricity, running water, or food distribution.

I haven't lived in Venezuela, but yes I've left the farm. I lived in many different countries, dozens of states and have seen extreme poverty first hand. I find that a lot of people on ATS are actually more traveled than you might think. Lots of ex-military and such.

I would be staying on Curacao an island off Venezeula's coast... my in-laws were Dutch & married Locals...
so I guess we could be flanking around the Zombies that are going Cannibal very soon on the mainland cities...

I sure miss Uncle Gottlieb, who would come visit the other-side-of-the-Family here in the States every few years...the man liked to P-A-R-T-Y (which sent him to a early grave no doubt)

I was born in Iraq and lived through the embargo. My parents fled in 1992 due to operation desert storm. Electricity used to come once in a blue moon and we used to get running water once a week. This wouldn't be too bad unless winter hits of course. We can definitely survive by going fishing and melting ice for drinking water.

Though I think I would be much comfier having stockpiled food.
