Anti-vaccine movies disappear from Amazon after CNN Business report.

New York (CNN Business) Amazon has apparently started removing anti-vaccine documentaries from its Amazon Prime Video streaming service. The move came days after a CNN Business report highlighted the anti-vaccine comment available on the site, and hours after Rep. Adam Schiff wrote an open letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, saying he is concerned "that Amazon is surfacing and recommending" anti-vaccination books and movies.

Anti-vaccination conspiracy theories thrive on Amazon.

A recent search for "vaccine" on Amazon (AMZN) yielded a search page dominated by anti-vaccination content. Of the 18 books and movies listed on the search page, 15 contained anti-vaccination content.

The articles above talk about the "unbiased" "report" which points out that Amazon allows some free expression on their site or at-least used to.

Cant have that.

Sure enough, they have now removed some materials which discuss the dangers of vaccines.

The same search for "vaccines", no longer yields the same results.

Theres no conspiracy here folks.

This is censorship plain and simple. Literature or rhetoric which challenges the establishment.

Will it stop with vaccines? I very seriously doubt it.

Its not a question of whether or not they have a right to censor material, they do.

What theyre doing is without a doubt, a form of censorship.

Ironic that Amazon, which used to primarily sell books is now engaged in their own form of book burning

Phage, seriously, how is it that you appear almost instantly the moment someone posts an anti-vaccine related thread?

Whether someone is pro or anti vaccine, there shouldnt be a prohibition on opinions, articles, alternative perspectives etc.

Yes, Amazon can do what they like. Selling ignorance is often bad PR and the consequential impact on reputation and "the bottom line". So that's what they are doing - avoiding bad PR.

The anti-vaccine crowd are ignorant and don't understand science. On the oft-cited autism link, there is no real evidence proffered by the ignorant, apart from poor statistical interpretation and misunderstanding of both vaccines and autism. It's a frustrating topic, like trying to explain to some moron that the earth ain't flat, or that just because you cannot see them with the naked eye bacteria exists, or etc., etc...

Because I'm online and bored. Clicking "recent."

ATS has rules too. Don't like 'em? Go elsewhere.

A perfectly reasonable argument... if our government enforced our antitrust laws.

There is no prohibition on opionions, articles and alternative perspectives. Nothing could stop the anti vaccine crowd from setting up their own online store with content. In the exact same way amazon can decide for themselves what products they offer.

This is like calling out mickeyD for not selling whoppers. It’s silly

Your missing the point. Do you think it correct that private companies have the right to edit and censor free speech. We would not be happy if we saw a dictatorship doing this but people dont seem to mind when private companies do it.

Happy Day

Make no mistake. This is the prohibiton of free speech. It is nothing else and you are supporting this idea.

They are not. They are making a commercial decision. They won't stock and sell this particular pseudo-science film, just like they don't stock porn. So in this regard, they do have the right not to engage in activities they deem outside of what they want to do.

Amazon's main goal, jut like every other commercial concern, is to make money. Why court controversy for the sake of a niche?

Isn't there a measles outbreak in NY right now?

www.nytimes.com...

Worst in decades.

I can only hope Hollywood is next with the patient zero being Jenny McCarthy (although she may be living in the Chicago burbs).

You are endorsing non democratic censorship. Well done. Would you like it your mobile company vetted your phone calls and erased comments it deemed unfit.

The corporate dictatorship is controlling your free speech and your happy with that through the revolving door of government.

They got you just where they want you.

The nazies burned books. Now we just blacklist websites and ideas. An idea you are evidently at comfort with.

I didn't make any mistake, you did. By confusing what commercial companies offer to sell with free speech.
There's nothing to support, it's just business and idiots as usual

No I am not. I really think you are over-reacting and being a bit of a drama queen.

It's not censorship for a company not to sell something. If you don't like it, then don't buy from Amazon. It's a commercial decision.

If you want to follow the anti-vaccination brigade, then the internet is full with their stuff, but in this case Amazon won't market a questionable film. So what?

No. That's not a fair or accurate assessment of the "anti-vaccine crowd." It's really not that black and white. There are many people, including medical professionals, who are very concerned about the vaccine schedule as opposed to the vaccines. They are concerned that we are giving too many vaccines, often at the same time, to children who are too young to handle it. Too much of anything is too much. Even water.

There are also at least two examples I can think of in which experts stated that these vaccines can, do and have caused autism in a specific subset of patients. One is Dr. William Thompson, who was a CDC researcher. Another is Dr. Andrew Zimmerman, who advised the DOJ in a vaccine court case. A couple other doctors -- Wakeman and Hooker -- have also identified problems which have not been disproven, but their characters have been attacked unmercilessly (rightly and/or wrongly).

But as regards to science, and understanding science, unless and until the exact same results can be obtained under the exact same conditions by anyone and everyone, it isn't science. And the human body is not that simple. Further, in terms of research and safety, the gold standard of research has NEVER BEEN DONE: double blind placebo studies. The reasoning is that it would be unethical, and it would be unethical. But that doesn't change the reality.

So to one extent or another, we are ALL ignorant. There is much that none of us know -- and possibly cannot know. And I am absolutely positive that there is much that is known by SOME but kept from the rest of us.

It is frustrating, and confusing, and that is by design. There has been evidence offered, and it has been hidden. Much like these movies are being hidden. Granted, evidence is not proof, but evidence can become proof if it's not hidden and allowed to see the full light of day.

It is censorship, there is no doubt in my mind that pushing of these vaccines that hurt many people is happening.

I cannot take the flu vaccination, I get violently ill from it, I also have some problems with the DTAP but have never had a problem with the Tetanus vaccine many years ago meaning something has changed with the addition of either the dyptheria or the pertussis to the vaccine. Since I got symptoms similar to fighting the whooping cough which I had years ago, I feel it is the Pertussis vaccine that triggered that event, I will no longer get that part, I already have immunity to it and my body over reacts.

If you have a bad reaction to a vaccine, it usually means you have innate immunity already. The majority of people can take a vaccine without this reaction and might need the vaccine, but the say ten to fifteen percent of people in this country who have this kind of immunity functioning properly can be in contact with the flu and kill it very quickly, you have less chance of getting the flu from people who experience cytokine storms than from someone passing it on while vaccinated. This immunity can be jeopardized as a person gets old though, some pharmaceutical drugs actually can mess it up by blocking proper neurotransmitter operation.

I think our government should be forced to plainly tell people that the flu vaccine can possibly kill some people if they experience cytokine storms. This information about the storms is on the FDA sites and the Pharmaceutical sites that give information about vaccines, doctors are aware of this in people but many are brainwashed to believe vaccines are harmless to all. How do you know if you have this immunity, just try a vaccine and if you get real sick within a week then chances are that you had a cytokine storm. Doctors are now aware that the storm mimics the flu itself, your immune system is what causes the reactions we experience. The flu is a silent killer that destroys your cells and makes you more and more tired and weak if you are not fighting it. It allows other microbes to get hold The Mucus and coughing and many other symptoms are our immune system fighting it. Yes, it is important to suppress the coughing so you do not damage things and crack loose ribs, but normally just buffer the symptoms, let your immune system work.

Mayo Clinic has info on cytokine storms from vaccines, but you have to look for it properly, it advises people who have had severe symptoms from vaccines to not take that vaccine. This does not mean you cannot take some vaccines, usually only if your immune system recognizes the virus and overreacts does it throw a #fit.

When the government or big business starts suppressing information they also suppress everything that goes against what they want us to believe. The cytokine storm from vaccines often runs in families, but not all the children will have this kind of immunity. I cannot tell anyone if they need to get vaccinated or not, a person just needs to be aware of these storms and that some meds and certain foods block innate immunity and increase everyone's risk of getting sick. Any kind of steroid and many types of antihistamines increase susceptibility to illnesses. But often antihistamines and steroids are necessary, because they can block hyperimmune system reactions. Just be aware of this, also anti-cholinerogenic meds can mess up our immune response. I figured I would try to track meds and foods that can screw up our immune system, but there are so many things that can mess things up it is almost impossible to make a list. Everyone has a little different metabolism, so everyone has different needs. I know my immune response can kill me, I have to make sure not to strengthen my immune system too strongly, Many people need to eat all these veggies to be normal, over-consumption of foods touted as immune boosting can actually build my immune system too strong and it can trigger storms.

People need to be educated, they do not need to be lied to. They need to design a test and computer program to track meds effect on suppression of the immune system so people or their physician will be able to identify the state of their immune system.
