ATS is lacking political balance

I miss the days when everyone thought ATS was a CIA front and the world was going to be destroyed by one Planet X

I'll weigh in here, as an ex-staffer and as someone who left the site for a year.

The problem isn't ATS per se. The site is a container, and user generated content is always going to be reflective of the trends of the time.

The problem is hate politics, from both sides.

Both sides appear to be incapable of rationale discussion, and instead simply want to sling as much crap at each other as possible, and neither side want to do anything about it, because they are comfortable in their bubble.

Why did I go off ATS? Because I felt like a stranger in a strange land. The intelligent conversation stopped mostly and I got bored of reading the same old juvenile rubbish from both sides.

I have huge respect for the owners and staff here - the issue isn't them, or the way the site is run.

Still am bored of reading it (the political content) - the difference now is that - after taking myself away for a while - I'm more objective.

It’s 90% of the media so we’re bombarbed with it constantly but I think it’s just hot air, Democrats and leftists seem to be driven by either self interest or hate and those things are going to be different for different people

Strange how the internet has helped humanity drift apart more than come together by offering up places for like minded induviduals a platform for like minded discussion.

On one hand, Above Top Secret (pronounced ATS) is a conspiracy, science, and breaking news website manned by some of the brightest unemployed people on the planet. On the another hand, it's a place where distracting ads try to grab your attention and further cripple your sense of keeping your wallet closed (some ads actually float up out of nowhere and defy all attempts to capture or kill them). And on the last hand, sticky with bodily fluids but the one that holds all the cards, ATS is a site occupied by inmates of mental hospitals and/or security agencies monitoring the populace to see where the crazy will go next.

I'm going to deviate from the script though and go conspiracy theorist...

I have noticed a significant drop off of left leaning posts recently. To be specific, the drop off coincided with the media purge -- ooops! I mean layoffs -- a few weeks ago.

Maybe -- just maybe! -- for these purposes, we can divide ATSers into three categories: Leaders, Followers and Independent Thinkers. To be more specific, the "Leaders" would be political operatives posting here to create/lead the narrative... the "Followers" would be those who repeat and even elaborate and exaggerate the narrative provided by the "Leader"... and the "Indies" are those who don't follow either party's narrative.

If the "Leaders" on the left were purged along with their comrades in the media, and they no longer have a job to do here, and they stop providing the narrative, then the "Followers" have no one to follow... no one to parrot... no one to give them their talking points. Hence, much less posting in the left's echo chamber.

On the other hand, we have to take into account the impact of the Q thread, and how many Qsters come initially for the Q thread and then wander into the other threads and forums, thus increasing the echo chamber of the right... or at least the Trumpsters.

If there is any truth to the above, then I expect that folks on the left are simply regrouping and preparing for their next propaganda blitz.

If none of the above is true, then I will simply say that ATS is like a pendulum that swings from one side to the other, and this is a temporary state of being!

I am glad this site is "right leaning" right now. I couldn't stand all the negativity and divisiveness that leftist members brought to ATS. And now that the left really went extreme left, the majority have imploded on themselves to the point that no one cares about Democrats anymore.

Sounds a bit like when Progressives wanted equal time on talk radio programs that feature a lot of private conservative talk show hosts because npr wasnt getting enough public support. Sounds like a great project for the Thought Police.

I was going to post: ATS is not unbalanced, people are unbalanced.
It's a reflection of society at large. Or I should edit to say, it is a reflection of the More Vocal Minority. who tend to be more passionate or unhinged. Most of us near the middle are just kind of watching and posting here and there, not obsessing, whether we currently have a 'side' or not.

I think that one thing that would help is for individuals to move the hell away from identity politics and stop taking general statements so personally.

From my perspective, when someone says something like "lefties aren't rational," it isn't taken as a personal insult. I'm probably further left than the vast majority, but I know exactly the type of group that is being talked about. And, put simply, it doesn't include me.

The same could probably be said for those that lean right, but that's not in my wheelhouse, so I can't speak on it with any sort of authority.

Either way, if something is said generally that is taken personally, it usually indicates that some introspection is in order for the reader. A victim mentality, of any political bent, is in direct opposition to introspection.

Never mind that the media hate towards Trump was so high that it actually pushed moderates and democrats into Trump's corner. Never mind that all the crying and headbanging and hatred out of Hollywood and the music industry pushed moderates and democrats towards Trump. Never mind that the left moved so far to the left that anyone slightly left or in the middle (who held the same beliefs they held prior to 2016) were now considered right.

Whoever took the time to edit the information on Wikipedia really needs to move on with their life. What a whiny turd burglar. Unreal/hilarious.
