Good news is we have free market. There will be alternative to YT just like alternative to tumblr after banning nudes.

IMO, the reason this whole thing is even an issue at all is that the world wasn't ready for the internet to be what it was/is when it happened.

That's to say that we weren't prepared (most of us). We weren't taught critical thinking skills. We were taught to soak up information indiscriminately. They never gave it a second thought because all the information anyone could possibly soak up was under their direct control (By "they" I just mean the establishment. The MSM, the politicians and everyone who was anyone in the dissemination of information).

Whether or not the information we were given before the internet was factual and/or truthful, the fact is that most people just trusted it. Most people were never taught to question anything that was presented as fact by certain people. Now that the internet has happened, any old fool can stand in front of a camera and pretend to know what they're talking about and frankly, a lot of people are not capable of independent thought. So they're either going to believe this guy or that guy or they're going to start searching for what seems like "the truth".

That's to say they will start feverishly watching youtube videos or something until they find somebody they think they trust and they will accept that as their reality. Which is kind of a scary thought because when it comes to controversy on the internet, you will usually find that everyone is saying something different and if you REALLY NEED to believe someone or you really need something to believe in, the urge to pick one is going to be there.

It apparently never occurs to some people that they don't have to listen to anyone. Nothing changes today or tomorrow or anytime in the future if you simply remain forever skeptical of everything. Now if everyone did this, yes. It would change things eventually.

It's understandable that they feel like they need to censor. I'm not saying they should necessarily but something has to happen. If you walk out into a public place where there are a lot of people, you will be surrounded by everything from the smartest people you could probably find in your area to the dumbest people alive. Intelligent people usually take information with a grain of salt. But unfortunately, not everyone does. There are some scary stupid people out there.

Sounds like an opportunity for ATS! ATSTube anyone?

They gave up on development of this site long ago and won't even use HTTPS.

I highly doubt anything will ever get done in that way.

youtube doesn't owe anyone anything, they can do whatever they want with their servers and the content stored on them. I'm not saying that this isn't a total douche move on their part (it really is), but it's their move to make.

Don't depend on these companies for your information, that's good advice, but you don't have to take it.

Their house their rules.

Also this has been going on for quite some time, not the first time this has bee posted.

Oh gawd I HATE this argument.
Why do we keep having to explain this?
Here I go again [probably a waste of time, but who knows].
Of course they can do what they want at first glance. However they can't do what they want at all if you look deeper.
For starters they didn't set out like this. When everyone joined and enjoyed a video site as varied as YT.

This meant there was no need for other sites like it. Why? There was one that was brilliant.
After everyone invested thousands of hours of work and time in a variety of ways, they drop the bomb.

Not cool but yeah, they are allowed to do that...or are they?
It seems that they are fine to do that but they are no better than drug dealers or tyrants. Promise one thing, make everyone invest time and money and then show your real colours.

Somehow it comes under false promises, deception etc. You can't advertise a washing powder to be better than all others and when you use it it is true but then one day they change their formula and it doesn't work any longer. Imagine it is the only washing powder in the world.

Hey but why not? They can do whatever the eff they want, right?

Well no. If you mess about with humans, their income and time, it is not ok, and there are laws against false advertising, pretending you are one thing bit turning out to be another.

Can you really not see the difference? I have a feeling they are doing something absolutely unethical and unjustifiable. They have a monopoly and that cannot be abused. They have taken money and made people invest in them and help their success just to kick them up the arse in the end and drop them like a hot potato.
All under false pretence.
I have already joined a few alternatives, none of which is as good as YT, but they will be and then rightly we can all leave.
However up until then I support those that put a lot of work into their videos on YT.

I am no lawyer but I am certain they have breached quite a few laws abusing their unique position.
So no, not alright.

Don’t people ever learn?

Trump, Alex Jones, and other FAKE conspiracy people are deliberately put up by the deep state itself in order to lump that kind of nonsense to legitimate conspiracies like 911 and JFK so now they can lump the good with the bad( Trumps and Jones’ FAKE garbage about deep state---they actually work for the deep state).
This is clearly all planned and the goal is to suppress real conspiracies while hypocrites like Trump and Jones equates the deep state with left politics thereby misleading people away from the legitimate deep state which is not right or left.

YouTube seems to be censoring alternative views and opinions in order to fulfill GW bush comment about 9/11.

Let us never tolerate outrageous conspiracy theories regarding the attacks of September 11

Its no shocker they are doing this for the elitists. So far i had noticed its already working if you type in pizzagate conspiracy videos about it wont be on the first search page.
Same thing about other topics.

The official story on 911 is that Saudi hijackers conspired to fly planes into buildings. It is, by definition, a conspiracy theory. I imagine we can expect YouTube to ban any video that supports the official 911 story based on their criteria.

Youtube is a privately own platform if they want to start banning certain videos then that's up to them.

Those who push the stuff that they are banning can just upload their videos to other sites if they want.

Nobody is stopping them from saying anything.

Its a bit like a few years ago if you even mentioned that you had taken a puff on the magic dragon ATS would remove the post, was that also censorship, or was that just the rules of the site being enforced?

That's not what you said.
You said "their house, their rules".
That is incorrect. They most certainly do not have complete freedom to do whatever they want on the site just because they own it.

Regarding the more specific point, whether they have the leeway to curate content and still be immune to libel laws is something that has been discussed in Congress. That debate has not reached it's conclusion yet.

You cannot allow the natural flow of ideas. You must manipulate them, in order to sustain a narrative. To do less than manipulate the way a populace thinks, is to allow sheer chaos. And that doesn't sit well with our advertising.

said by some google/facebook/twitter manager, I'm sure...

They don't manipulate their algorithms for the benefit of people at all, they are liars of the most extreme to say they do.. they do it to sway the lowest common denominator, which is mainly who their user base is, to their personal views.

If you had millions of mouth breathing peons at your behest, and a few thousand people wanting facts you prefer kept away.. change the algorithm.. say it's to stop the millions of people who might be mentally challenged from changing their views... protect the mouth breathers.. REFUSE objective thoughts in lieu of stated ones.

the rest of us, know where else to look.

It's a fight we will not win.. they have their tendrils everywhere..

You better watch out, you better not cry
You better not pout, I'm telling you why
Google corp, is comin' to town,

They're making a list and checking it twice
They're gonna find out who's naughty and nice
Google corp is comin' to town

They see you when you're sleepin'
They know when you're awake
They know if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake

You better watch out, you better not cry
You better not pout, I'm telling you why
Google corp is comin' to town

With little tin horns and little toy drums
Rooty toot toots and rummy tum tums
Google corp is comin' to town

And curly head dolls that toddle and coo
Elephants, boats, and kiddie cars too
Google cops is comin' to town

The kids, in girls and boy land, will have a jubilee
They're gonna build a Toyland town all around the Holiday tree

You better watch out, you better not cry
You better not pout, I'm telling you why
Google corp is comin' to town

They see you when you're sleepin'
And they know when you're awake
They know if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake

You better watch out, You better not cry
You better not pout, I'm telling you why
Google corp is comin' to town

You better watch out, You better not cry
You better not pout,I'm telling you why

They're comin' to town

Youtube is a private business and can kick whomever they don't like off their propriety.

If you don't like how they run their business then go somewhere else.

Youtube is not a right. It is a business.

Limiting free speech for others because it offends the Liberals is not a business but censorship i am not surprised that there are a few peps outhere who defend YT decision to limit Free Speech on subjects liberals don't like to hear as

Youtube is not a right. It is a business

YouTube is indeed a right and not a business platform. YouTube is a platform where once people would go on and make videos on whatever subject they prefer given their right by the 1st amendment.

What YT is doing now is nothing more then what China is doing to their citizens. Limiting Free Speech.

limiting freedom of speech

The right to freedom of speech has nothing to do with this.

Freedom of Speech: The right, guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, to express beliefs and ideas without unwarranted government restriction.

Is youtube part of the government or are they a private business?

I'll let you look up the laws regarding what a private business is allowed to do.

who defend YT decision

Check my post history I am consistent with defending the rights of private business. Starting way back when ats was talking about the cake maker that didn't want to bake a gay cake. Go and see what I said about that.

YouTube is indeed a right and not a business platform.

Says who? Prove this.

Limiting Free Speech.

You do not understand the freedom of speech right as it is written in our constitution. Not surprising after seeing you say that youtube is a right.

YouTube is indeed a right and not a business platform.

You are totally wrong about this.
You have NO RIGHTS on ANY website because you do not own the domain or pay it's bills.

It's also clear you do not have any children.
You would not want your kids to invest time on stupid conspiracies that pollute their minds with pseudoscience and blatant lies.

It goes way beyond 911.
Remember the guy who shot up the pizza parlor because he thought the Clinton's ran a pedophile ring from it?
Or Nibiru is going to hit the Earth next month and destroy us all. (A monthly continuation of 2012)
How about all the flat Earth channels they had?
You wouldn't want your 16 year old watching ISIS channels

Most of these channels were making money from views.
The more outrageous lies the more views the more money.
It's called fear porn.
I'm glad they are taking them down.

^^ This. All of this!
YouTube is a right? Seriously that is such a sign of a generation that thinks it is entitled to everything without any responsibility.

Youtube is a business, not a free ride for kooks. If kooks, or anyone else, threatens that then why should they allow them airtime? If you want to promote your own views without interference buy your own webspace. No-one is entitled to a free ride on Google's business model.

Yep. Both here and in the outside world.

I've heard the broad censorship condoned by a fair few now.

I feel like it has to get a lot worse before we can hope to go through a new age of enlightenment.
Perhaps when millions are arrested just for viewing the wrong content online, people will wake up.

The worst thing is that YouTube seem to be promoting the actual wrong content...
