In September 2018, Politico reported that Long was under investigation by the FEMA inspector general because he allegedly used government vehicles to commute between Washington, D.C., and his home in Hickory, North Carolina.

So, this was known and he admitted back in Sept. Maybe investigators kept digging and led to a criminal investigation uncovering whatever he was doing.

Yeah, fair enough, but I'd say they simply didn't have the technology to rule that many other tribes. Although the Mongols and Aztecs did to some extent. I still think there might be a tendency, but maybe that's just what happens in this current time. Could be because of media, shrinking the world and so on. Same way small business is ousted by corporations.
