South Florida student demands SAT score be released after she's accused of cheating

This Florida student got a 900 on her SATs in March, she got tutoring and studied hard and raised her score to 1230 in October.

YES, she pulled the race card and said they are discriminating against her because she is black. She has hired a civil rights attorney, and even started a gofundme page because she won't receive scholarships now.

Students that get tutoring and study between tests do raise their scores quite a bit, one site said on average over 200 points. So it is possible.

But Wait... That's not what we are talking about.....

Here is what the Test officials say:

"An ETS official released a statement regarding the issue, saying, "We cannot discuss specific students' scores. After every test administration, we go to great lengths to make sure that all test scores we report are accurate and valid. In order to do so, we sometimes take additional quality control steps before scores are released."

We do not cancel scores based on a score gain alone; we will only cancel scores after we are confident that there is substantial evidence to do so."

www.cnn.com...
"A score is never flagged for review solely on score gains, said Zach Goldberg, a spokesman for The College Board, the company that conducts the SAT. Indeed, score gains are celebrated.
But scores may be flagged for a number of reasons, including testing sheets having similar answers or an incident occurring at the testing site, he said.

So, I'm wondering, did this girl call their bluff, or do they have something on her and she is unaware of it? It seems they are confident there is more than just a significant raise score. I did read that a large score jump can raise a flag.

I seriously doubt it is because of her skin colour. That is a very old fashioned view and normally spouted to gain media attention.

This is the world we live in now.

if something happens to you and you happen to be black then that is why it happened.

Same with being gay or trans or just a woman now a days.

I think race needs to be completely taken out of schooling.
That way nobody could even claim it. No more affirmative action. No grants or scholarships just for race.
It should 100% be merit based.

Let's say there is absolutely no evidence that she cheated, and her score was simply flagged because of the score jump.
On the test she also has to check that she is Black. We have to admit, there is that chance (even very slight) that someone might have discriminated against her. We've read right here on ATS a Muslim Doctor saying they want to do harm to others based on race, and another case of a white supremacist EMT causing pain when dealing with black children. So to say it's not possible is not real.

How exactly would she cheat? Its different versions of the test each time... all you have on your person is a #2 pencil and scrap paper ... and the scrap papers are also collected with the student's name on it along with the exam.(or the work books have their own room to workout the problems sometimes).

Yea something is definitely not right here...

"Many students recognized questions on their SAT as ones they’d already seen and answered before. Some even went so far as to obtain an entire answer set via text. When they got to the testing center, they texted their tutors a question on the test. The tutor then quickly texted them back a complete set of answers!"

Now imagine more than one student has those identical answers...

"including testing sheets having similar answers or an incident occurring at the testing site"

ETS said in a letter to Campbell there was "substantial agreement between your answers on one or more scores sections of the test and those of other test-takers."
Why the ETS withheld Campbell's scores
ETS told the student the "marked improvement" of her score indicates “she likely had 'prior knowledge’ of the test,” according to a release.

Here’s the rub.

Some liberal college admission person will be ‘woke’ Enough fight racism and not only let her into a college that might be above her skill level but also find some financial aide for her.

Why would you ‘act a fool’ for a free ride

Until people stop trying to be out ‘woke’ why should people stop using them for free stuff

Some students pay someone else to take the test for them. They have to get fake IDs to pull it off, but apparently it's doable.

Hang on a minute....why are students allowed a phone in a test situation?
And does anyone really seriously think that in this atmosphere of equality and entitlement any school/college would are discriminate? Wouldn't be worth the poop storm.

They aren't that's why it is cheating!

A score jump isn't unusual. They probably were tipped off to some form of cheating though. Last time I took a test was the GMAT for graduate business school admissions. It was the first year they moved from paper to the computer. I believe it was 1997. It is very difficult to cheat with the computer because all the questions are random so your questions are not the same as the person sitting next to you.

No phones, calculators, or anything was allowed in the testing room. You basically got a pencil and a note pad. You had to show picture ID and the test room was monitored and videoed.

How anyone could cheat is beyond me unless there is an entire organized cheating ring ran out of the actual testing center. A dirty little secret is that Asians (more specifically mainland Chinese) are notorious for cheating on these tests. There have been some pretty big scandals.

My gut is they have some pretty irrefutable info that she cheated or some seriously circumstantial evidence they are investigating.

So some questions repeat, how exactly did she cheat? It's not like they only repeated for her or she arranged for a hacker to make her exam come out similar?

Or she hired a body double and payed good money to fake her ids...

If she flunked it would have been because shes black, she had a perfect score too good for a black kid...

I wonder if they question every child with perfect scores..?

The problem is that school admissions has never been just "merit based". This is just some fantasy people tell themselves to think they have a shot at the Ivy League and other prestigious schools. The other problem is how do you define merit...

There are numerous ways to cheat. One of the ways is getting the test beforehand. This is more of an issue with the test prep places, but in the end the student is punished.

"there were documents circulating that contained entire sections of March 2016’s SAT. Soon after the SAT was administered, test-prep companies in China advertised test booklets that contained questions very similar to, if not the same as, those on the real SAT.

It’s unclear whether these students' scores were withheld or canceled, as they have been in past years. It'd be a shame for students to suffer the consequences of unethical practices of test-prep companies. For now, unfortunately, it seems that competition in the industry means that this kind of cheating will only continue."

This is a good point.

How many dumb kids have gotten into Harvard or another Ivy League school based on "merit" after their daddy made a huge, huge financial contribution the the school?

numerous ways to cheat, yes.

Everyone on this thread has glossed over my comment that there are students who pay other students to take the test for them.

Another race hoax that the media will run with and when evidence is presented that she did in fact cheat the media will bury it on the back page and all the leftist will use this debunked incident as proof that virulent racism still exists.

We've seen this play out dozens, nah hundreds of times in recent years

Complete hoax.
