Trump legalizes hemp

Man I hate Trump, why does he keep doing all of these stupid things. First he pulls our troops out of countries we don't belong in and now he legalizes hemp production and therefore CBD oil which helps alot of people with various medical issues without a prescription. What in the hell is wrong with him?

The pullout hasn't happened yet. It might not. Or it might be a much smaller pullout then we want. I hope they ALL get pulled out and our bases get shut down.

Legalizing hemp is the best thing trump has done so far. Might be the best thing he was done his whole life.

Hemp does not contain thc. You can't get high off it. No known medicinal proprieties.

Trump is a tee-totaler, but his position on cannabis has been consistent and pragmatic. Props, DJT!

But the truth is: Obama legalized industrial hemp in the 2014 Farm Bill; however, McConnell is the individual who did all the leg work and deserves the credit for the 2014 Farm Bill (ostensibly legalized hemp under the auspices of university research and pilot programs), and truly took it to another level with his crafting of the 2018 Farm Bill.

This wasn’t a Trump achievement, it was a McConnell achievement — congrats to both of them for the parts they played.

BUT, don’t get too excited about the CBD part...the FDA is actively greasing the political/big pharma wheels to classify CBD as a “drug” and ultimately, position it in a holding pattern for profit-maximizing entities (and I’m not talking about farmers or holistic healers).

The horror, right?

On a side note, we've got a place down the road from us which put about 40 acres under hemp the past couple years. That is some crazy S# to grow and harvest, let me tell ya! I've never seen such a labor intensive crop!

I think these guys leased the land to grow it, and they're a bunch of young guys, but wow! I'll certainly give these guys credit for one thing...hemp is NOT and easy product to grow! And the harvesting of it is even crazier still! You can't put a regular harvester on it because it jams up the cutter bars. You can't put a swather on it because they won't even cut it. It's like cutting down mini-trees (or if you're familiar with it, like cutting down sagebrush). This past fall I watched a hired harvester just DESTROY a cutter head trying to harvest that stuff, and he blew his hydraulics about 3 times on a brand new $1m+ Case harvester. They wound up bringing in a bunch of migrant workers to harvest by hand, and even they struggled with it! They went out there the first day with machetes...heh, well, that ain't happenin'! So the next day they were just trying to pull it (looked brutal).

Then after they got it all harvested they brought a guy to sweep the field. Had an 800hp tracked Case tractor on it with 30 foot sweep and all it did was dig a hole in place (couldn't sweep it). So they picked up both wings and STILL couldn't sweep it! So next they bailed on the sweep and just brought in a big disc. Couldn't even run a full width disc through it, and even then they had to make multiple passes to get it. Looked like a bomb went off in that field afterwards. I saw service trucks out there on that tractor three times in the process too. This was all brand spanking new equipment too!

I had no idea hemp is that tough!

Well, very low amounts of THC. Hemp can also produce large amounts of CBD, depending on strain, as well as other minor cannabinoids, terpenes, terpenoids, flavonoids, sterols etc. Even the roots can have benefits.

Because Hemp and Marijuana both derive from the Cannabis Sativa family, they do share certain similarities; however, due to each plant’s biological structure, they have several very distinct and crucial differences.

Hemp's not a particularly labour intensive crop to grow, it basically takes care of itself through the growing season and requires no added ferts (depending on local substrate) or insecticides.

It is a b*tch to harvest though, as you say, but with dedicated purpose-built gear it's easy and straight forward enough.

Genus name is the same but species would be different for one Sativa is American and Indica is Asian. So apparently the hybrids would have names of their own also. With the crazy names i have heard I suspect the inventor gets to submit a name and if the Biology Dept somewhere will corraborate, we have a new species name. Sorry for being so boring....

Basically; ruderalis, hemp, indica, ducksfoot, thoroughbred sativas; all of the cannabis genus, which is a subgenus of cannabaceae, of which hops are a member - beer and cannabis are cousins, lol

actually there several studies in progress testing cannabidiol as a treatment for seizures.
the reason there are no "known medicinal properties" is because of the inability to
perform research.

A Sgt in Ft Riley KS once told us that he had already smoked the hemp that was for making rope and it gives you a big headache. We believed him if we might've wanted to anyway.
