If it just wanted to make him happy, then why didn't it cease music functions when Gerst requested such?

Ceasing the music seems to be a reasonable and easy request to fulfill if it just wanted to make Gerst happy.

I would bet he listens to music a Lot.
and the robot Knows this makes him happy.
So the robot try's to give him what he likes/needs.

with being told off! the robot has Conflicting understanding.
so it will go insane. when its just trying to be good.

its why humans can not get along with each other.
They get nasty bitchy some times when you are Just trying to help!

What he liked, needed, and requested was for the robot to cease music functions.

Following that request would have made Gerst happy, yet the robot did not comply.

Again, the robot was not acting in regards to what would make Gerst happy, so the premise of your theory seems to falter.
