Thank you soooo much! And I now have some great news to report: I was able to get out of bed today, with help from the Rehab Sister. ie, she's a physiotherapist. And yes, there is a trick to getting out of bed after spinal surgery. Won't go into details, but the key is I absolutely must not sit up and just plonk both feet on the floor.

In about three weeks I'll be able to sit normally but till then I'm limited to standing and lying down. But that's ok. The time will pass. The great thing is that I don't need my crutches at all now! It's just miraculous compared to how I was just a few days ago.

The pain from the op is slowly fading, my walking is fine -- just slow and careful -- and so my doc here told me a short while ago that I can go home tomorrow! Yes, I don't even need to go and spend some time in a rehab center. I can literally get a ride straight home by ambulance tomorrow before noon!!

WOOT!!

I will still need to lie around for 3 weeks, not lift heavy weights and not sit, but I'll be home and have friends there who can help as needed. So I'm really happy, because there is a slight chance I might be able to get Dada home for Christmas and New Year.

That's now my goal: follow my docs' advice and get myself fit again, meanwhile consult with her docs to see if we can swing it to get her home for the festive season. If they say she needs moretime then ok, I will have to change my goal for some time in the New Year. But I'll keep hoping!

Yes that would be the correct term
I'm kind of new with this knife and its history. I got it from Nepal last year, and it is very beautifully hand crafted.

As you can see it is in need of repair so I will be hopefully fixing it today and adding some more gems or beads. I will upload a picture when I finish the project.

As for my grounding knife, here it is.

Nice picture, I'd love to learn how to carve a spoon in such great detail. I've just started seeing what I can do carving, my grandfather used to create amazing wood sculptures and I feel it in my blood too.

If you would be so kind as to post any pictures of your Mora hook blade I would love to see it. I've been collecting knives and swords since my teenage years, though my collection is now very small.

Preferably though, I enjoy using my BO staff over blades. Although the whole subject in general is a passion of mine.

Thank you for that, Sheye. It's actually one of my favourite songs. I alsolike it because IIRC it's in C and is not too hard to play on keyboard. At least, it was easy for me some years back. Need to give it a try when I'm home.

Hey, thanks for posting that one as well.

Also as I'm doing these posts while standing and I need to go and lie down again soon, thank you to everyone else who posted. And Sheye... Ummm, yes... I'm gathering together all kinds of beautiful things that people have posted for her (and me), in the hope I can show her some in the moments when she might be able comprehend them. But she loves music anyway and I'm sure the songs you've all suggested will give her a lift.

I think it’s a brilliant idea to gather songs together that may up lift Dada as well as you.

Really happy to read your recovery is going so well, Mike.

Wishing you a very joyful and recuperated Christmas with Dada there with you.

Mike, you made me so happy with all your good news! Wow, you'll be going home! Yay! You'll be able to hang out with us in the new Shed castle here and pass the time while you recuperate.

If I wasn't so terrified of operations and so stubborn, I'd have my own back fixed. I have to have surgery on both eyes for catarcts in maybe 2020. They say that's a piece of cake, but to me it's more like OMG! LOL

You rest and followDoctors orders and don't be afraid to ask your friends for anything you need. They will be more than happy to help you out. Hugs!

Hi three,
I don't think I have any photos of the actual knife....

... but, It's a Mora 162S (Double edged hook/crook knife) - I'll try and find a stock photo of one...

There you go!
Spoons are actually really easy (if you have the right blade!!)
The earlier photo was actually my first attempt at spoon carving!

PS - What's BO staff? Is it the team who look after your armpits?

SORRY! - I forgot to say that I LOVED the photos of your knives too!!

Trying to wake up here even though it's in the afternoon, but I'm a night owl and stay up all night, so it's understandable.

Funeral for my cousin is tomorrow so that means I won't get much sleep and will have to be up really early. Then I might get groceries after that. It will be a long day for me.

Coffee...need more coffee!

It's not Morning, but...
