I can well understand that. Lord knows we all get there from time to time. I very much hope your nephew gets his priorities straightened out, learns his limitations, and gets his behaviour sorted out. And good for you by the way, for going in and getting his weapons out of the house, while the balance of his mind was not proper. Too many bad things have happened to good people, because someone dropped the ball in that regard.

It's a wry observation on immigration isn't it. Here's your Nephew, white American since the 1600s, drinking, drugs, out of control. And his wife, a new immigrant, working hard to get qualifications and nurse to be a better citizen.



He needs to talk to you about what exactly his problem at work is. Why is he getting blind drunk over it. I'd suggest having a man to man about that, instead of threatening him with violence. Sit him down and say look son, what is the problem here? Because you can't behave this way around your wife and child, so man up, and tell me what the problem is.

Then when you find out what the problem is, you can take it from there. Find a solution to that.

Sounds to me like you and your brothers should have been proactive instead of reactive a long time ago. But then, I don't know all of the circumstances that brought him to this point in his life.

I would edit that title while you can. Once a mod sees it...well, you'll find out.

Hey... look, we all know its not T&C compliant, but most of us here also know that its not always realistic to be entirely proper, when the crap is hitting the fan. Give the guy a little room here. They are clearly having a terrible, awful time. This is not a casual curse thrown into an otherwise pleasant discussion, but a cry into the darkness in unreasonable circumstances. A little forgiveness here would not go amiss. I am certain no offense was intended by the member concerned.

Beatings just make people angrier. And then they usually feel the need to take that anger out on people weaker and more vulnerable than them.

In this case, that would be his wife and child that would catch the # for any beating delivered on him.

No, I'd still suggest sitting him down and having a real man to man conversation about what exactly has got his # stirred up here.

Find out what the problem, fix it. Don't beat the guy down when, for all we know, the problem might be that he's got folks at work that are picking on him and beating him up at work.

Well, this will probably piss some people off, but if his wife is so smart (Masters and all)...why didn't she become a legal citizen of the US? Or, was she keeping her status for a reason? I mean, if she's married to him, and he's a citizen and they have a child together, then she's had a really easy path to citizenship.

One for being a drunken idiot, and two for allowing her to play the illegal alien card this long. If he's such an upstanding descendant of the Founding Fathers then he should have done something about this!

Got similar in my family, I'm the only one keeping my family together right now because I live away so I'm not part of the politics, I'm friends with everyone.
I'm going 'home' on Friday to mediate the rest of the siblings with a current problem, everyone is angry with one of my brothers.

I seek harmony and communication not punishment beatings like another brother wants to do. My mother thinks of me as the black sheep with morals lol.

Good luck fella, but talking is better than beatings, be a referee not an mma fighter. You'll get a better result.

I'm the youngest of 5 siblings by 9 years and ran away from home aged 16, but now I am the mature sensible one...beatings are never the answer, making someone comply for fear of a beating isn't real, but changing someone's outlook through communication is.
